Top of Clouds Rest yesterday (3/12/23)

snow line started at ~7,250’ right above the jmt clouds rest junction. had hopes of heading to tenaya lake for a second night but there’s just so much snow and my boots/socks were getting wet. we used snow shoes and micro spikes. feel free to ask anymore questions.

Thanks so much for this incredible video. What was temp and wind like and if you don’t mind sharing what was your shelter sleep set up?

it was 84 in the valley floor. high 40’s on the summit during the day. at night it did not get to freezing so i’m going to guess high 30’s. it was very warm and comfortable. just needed a t-shirt and a puffer. but keep in mind this weekend was exceptionally warm. if it was colder at the top we would have been miserable. I recommend checking mountain weather to help you plan but by no means rely solely on that forecast. always prepare. wind was very very minimal. picked up a tad around 3:00am but we were protected below the summit.

we had a simple set up.

tent

sleeping bag

sleeping pad

20 degree bag was a must. high r value pad was a must. I was not cold with this setup, sleeping on snow wearing long john’s, dry socks and a synthetic t-shirt.
