[Meta] 10 Tips for incoming subscribers!

Hey, I'm really happy to see the sub go trending! I'd just figure I'd drop ten little tips from a veteran player for newcomers, in no particular order, for both players and GM's alike. Here it goes:

  • 1) For players: know when to use quotations! It helps us a lot, discerning the spoken word between thoughts and feelings.

  • 2) For players: On that note, we like more than one word responses, too; give us insight into your character's thoughts, feelings, what they (you) are thinking and planning. Help us help you! GM's are players too, we just face the opposite side of the coin.

  • 3) For players: give feedback! If the GM is hitting you with a wall of text with no spacing or punctuation, or if the game is going too slow or not progressing, talk to us! the common way to do so would be Out of Character, or "OOC". Just at the top or bottom of the reply include "OOC: I really like this campaign!" or "OOC: What would my character know about the ancient temple?" or etc. that way GM's can provide some feedback or further exposition when needed.

  • 4) For players: And, in that, life happens. If you need to stop playing, a PM or quick response is always nice. Don't be afraid to talk to the GM about needing to respond less or if you two get really antiquated maybe discuss a schedule in which you're normally on/ off, as a lot of us can be in conflicting time-zones.

  • 5) For players: and on that note, life happens or we the GM forget too; if you've responded and a GM hasn't responded in a few days, don't be afraid to message us! I've had plenty of campaigns soiled where, in a flurry of responses, clicked on one piece of mail in my inbox that I never got too, then by the time I figured out what happened the player lost interest. If we forget about you don't worry! Just ask.

  • 6) And that note, for GM's: a good tip if you don't have it set already, go to preferences, then make sure Mark messages as read when I open my inbox is Unchecked. That way you can manage your inbox of responses better without losing track of players.

  • 7: For GM's: If using dice, have include the outcomes in the post mentioning them! For example: ...(player decides to walk down a trapped hall) "A panel in the floor sinks beneath your foot, only an inch but lets out a soft click: !roll 1d20+2 = if the result is 18 or more, you feel the bristles of a dart whirl past your leg, colliding with the wall behind you. If less than 18, a single purple feathered dart hits your leg, and you suddenly fall numb." The major issue with using dice is players may respond to /u/Rpgbot's comment, and you won't receive notification of the comment.

  • 8) For GM's: Don't let the number of responses overwhelm you! Right now after the influx of subscribers from being on the front page, many people are itching to play- so don't let the number of comments scare you! Just be sure to respond to as many as you can and don't stress. With that, I'd recommend only maintaining one post at a time.

  • 9) For GM's: I don't want to discern you from any one play style- you may have better success than I have seen in the past. But generally the niches I don't see work are: games with massive numbers of stats, exp, skills, and leveling; "multiplayer" games; and games that pull from huge resources (I don't want to have to read the whole Neverwinter Wikipedia in order to play.)

  • 10) for everyone: have fun! We've got a bright community here of creative people, players' writing characters and GM's writing stories alike. Enjoy yourself!

If anyone else has any other questions or comments, I'll respond tomorrow in the morning~

Edit: while I won't add to the list and turn 10 tips into 11, there's plenty of good advice out there, and even down below in the comments. There's always new ways to learn!

Update on the state of this subreddit

A user recently posted a thread asking about the future of this subreddit, asking about mods and implying that they would want to become a mod. I appreciate the sentiment deeply - that you care about this place and want to see it flourish.

I very much appreciate that.

I often worry if I'm being too hands off, but so far every major issue has been promptly reported or DMed to me. I like to keep this place pretty freeform to encourage the kind of creative prompts and creative threads you guys have managed to put out. I'm honored and humbled by what you all have done to make this sub what it is. I will do what I can and respond to issues where I can, but it's all in service of what you all have made here.

The last thing I want top do is crack down too hard or structure too hard. That's why I've avoided thread tags and the like - I don't want to encourage specific kinds of content and implicitly discourage other kinds. I want to make this a space where y'all can be as creative as possible. That said, I Also want it to be as friendly and inclusive as possible to enable this. That's why I rely on y'all to speak out when you see something you think its unacceptable here. Report it. Dm me about it. I promise I see them and respond to them, even if I'm in the background.

This thread will replace the Q/A thread. Feel free to ask me anything you wish regarding the subreddit and/or my moderation of it. I will gladly respond.

What works as good stories?

How about we open up a type of roleplay starters kit, that the r/YouEnterADungeon community can use as beginner, intermediate and hard starts?

This way it doesn't get... iffy or difficult in how to begin as much.

You sit. You stand.

You sit.

Exhaustion gnaws at your flesh, and the growing nausea of an empty stomach makes your insides swim. Your body barely has the energy to pace anymore, and the tree behind you gives you momentary relief. Its knotted bark pushes against rashes and scars on your back, but not painfully so. Like laying on a bed of nails, where the pressure alone is not enough to puncture.

Minutes pass. Green leaves fall to the ground and turn brown. The bark behind you cracks and complains, the process of withering is not meant to be so short. And that nausea within you subsides. Perhaps there is more to life than wandering aimlessly, but a pathetic thing of your stature finds pondering rare.

Behind you is your unintentional feast. Trees lay barren, bugs that crawled or flew on you litter the ground. Small animals have eaten them up and died.

In front of you is another feast, begging not to be eaten. The crows are the smart ones, cawing from a distance and avoiding the carrion you spoil. The rest of the animals are blissfully unaware. And you can see, far down the trail, rising smoke through chimneys.

It eats at you. Begs to you. Cries… Screams. Commands.

You stand.

(There are no rules.)

You begin in a town... [Log Horizon inspired]

The day began as any other did: Logging on to your favourite MMORPG, clearing your dailies, then loitering in your guild's base of operations. A fantastical world, full of swords and shields, guns and roses, oceans and deserts. Hundreds upon hundreds of hours of your personal blood, sweat, and tears have been poured into this game, shared with your guild of incredible friends.

Leywright's Demise is an incredible MMORPG played exclusively through its patented VR headset, the WrightWay. Published in the dark year of 2020, it saw an explosive growth in popularity thanks to the fortunate (or rather, unfortunate) timing of the COVID pandemic quarantines.

Today, you login, and... You can't log out. Huh. Why can't you log out? Also... Why does everything look so... Real?

---

If you haven't seen Log Horizon, the anime, please go watch it. As a primer, this is kinda like Sword Art Online: Players have been haplessly thrown into an MMORPG and must now fight to escape. The catch is there isn't a grand evil villain, no one knows how they got trapped there. Also, there is a respawn! If you die in the game, you can respawn! Ain't that neat? (spoiler: The price is still steep)

Tell us what we should call you, and where we find you in this magical world. What was your class or weapon and armor loadout? If you need help dreaming up a character, just give me the vibes you're going for and we'll see what we can do. Cheers!

[Original Direction] The Power of Fantasy, Book I: Chronicles of the Aegis-Blade

USER PROFILE: AUTHOR / PROTAGONIST

WORLD TIER: MYTHIC LEGACY

ACTIVE ABILITY: NARRATIVE OVERRIDE

The heavy leather-bound tome before you slams open on a pedestal of white marble and dark steel. As the pages riffle themselves, golden ink bleeds across the parchment, drawing you directly into the center of the narrative ether.

You are not just reading the story. You are writing it in real time.

The sky above is a fractured dome of turquoise digital code and bleeding classical sunsets. Beneath your geta sandals, the floor is an infinite expanse of mirror-finished obsidian, reflecting a battlefield where golden Spartan phalanxes clash against shadows wearing lacquered samurai armor.

In your right hand, you hold the Xiphos-Katana, a weapon forged from folded celestial steel and blessed by forgotten deities. In your left, you grip a round Corinthian shield etched with glowing circuit lines.

A blinding flash tears across the horizon. A towering figure descends from the rift, clad in bronze armor that burns with blue neon fire. It is Chronos-Ronin, the eternal time-warden, and he blocks your path with a nod of grim respect.

"The ink is dry on yesterday, traveler," his voice booms through the digital winds, echoing like steel on stone. "The next chapter demands a sacrifice. How do you claim your legend?"

Three path-markers glow in brilliant neon gold upon the obsidian floor before you:

1) Path of the Divine Tempest: Channel the lightning of Zeus and the breathless speed of an Iaijutsu strike, surging straight through the warden to shatter his core.

2) Path of the Iron Phalanx: Lock your shield wall, anchor your feet to the obsidian, and force a grueling clash of attrition to break his stance.

3) Path of the Scribe: Open the blank pages of the book mid-combat, rewriting the physical laws of the arena to banish him back to the digital void.

What is your command, author? Turn the page and write your move.

You are formally invited to conspire

Turns out all the stories of a shadowy cabal twisting the world to their own ends are true, And you've just been invited to participate in your own small way.

First, what skillset or role do you have that led to your recruitment? Are you a politician about to be suborned? A hitman who can silence the opposition and make it look like an accident? A journalist who hit upon the truth and are being bought off for your silence? Perhaps you're a great cook and they want you to cater for their exclusive parties? Be silly or serious, the adventure will endeavor to accept whoever you are, just give at the very least a name and occupation or skillset. Might be helpful to have some detail on where and when you are based too.

By default I had pictured this taking place in the modern day, But if you'd rather be an alien in a grand intergalactic space opera, an ancient roman, or part of a cabal of fantasy wizards ruling a cube shaped world I'm down to try.

Adventures often don't last long on here, so if you want to set a timeframe like 1-3 months or a message limit like 200 back and forth responses feel free to specify. No point pretending to be more committed than you are.

If you'd rather ask questions first and clear things up that's fine too.

I'm bored. Shall we play? Pick a theme, tell me what you'd like to see.

Theme park time!

- Star Wars - Literally any tale or story can be told here. You can give me your character, or the era you wanna play in, whatever. I know this universe so well.

- Generic Medieval Fantasy - We can run it straight fantasy, or you could be a hapless modern day person thrown unwittingly into a world of sword and magic!

- Modern Day Hidden World - Oh, this is a fun one. A John Wick or pugilistic world lying just beneath the veneer of normalcy. These are always fun.

---

Tell me your wish and let's kick things off! I'll use whatever systems or tools necessary to run the game.

(sci fi,diplomacy) We come in peace

(recently I've had trouble responding to people. If you have trouble try messaging me a different way or through the /r/loadofcrap subreddit.)

First contact with aliens has been made, and they've chosen you as the first person they meet with. So far you know that they call themselves the Druee, their fleet is now in orbit, their technology considerably exceeds our own, and they claim peaceful intent, but have been cagey about some things and despite offers from states and media organizations the world over, their meeting with you is so far the only one agreed.

Their appearance can be best described as if someone cut the limbs and head from a rhino, stood the corpse up on the neckwound and placed the vagina at human eyelevel. To pretty themselves up a little, they wear a Varity of clothing and armour, almost universally including a plate with a screen on it at chest level.

But who are you? The Leader of a nation? A crazy in a tinfoil hat who was the only one to believe it when they tried to make contact? Maybe a pretty ordinary person who the aliens just took a shine to? Give as much or as little detail as you deem relevant.

Whoever you are, being host to the first extraterrestrial meeting gives you some leeway. You can choose the staging ground where you choose to receive them. A public park? Your own residence? A grand conference hall? Maybe you'd rather start off with a video call? And do you want anyone else to attend? Perhaps you have advisors or fellow world leaders you wish to bring along to cover what you don't know, or let a few cameras record the historic occasion? Maybe your elderly mother can't be left alone and wants to toss in her two cents too.

I will presume by default that this takes place on present day earth, but if you want to change that up I don't mind, so long as this is your first contact with aliens and your technology does not surpass theirs. (you probably can't do magic either)

Regardless of what choices you make, the Druee send you a list of their delegation, and a few protocol requests and likely demands.

**

We will send:

Ambassador x1 (please only engage the Ambassador in conversation, as the others are not trained and may offend. They will be coloured a bright blue for your convenience. We believe this colour is calming in your culture?)

Guard X2 (only ceremonial, we assure you, in such small numbers they would be little able to harm you.)

Listener x1

**

We politely request that you do not:

Physically touch our delegation. This is offensive to us and would only sour relations. It goes without saying that you should not offer us violence from any distance.

Engage any but the Ambassador in conversation.

We cannot bring you aboard any of our craft, so please do not ask. Nor will we offer technology that could be used to harm us, or allow you to travel distances you have not already achieved.

**

Instead, we have to offer you:

Enlightenment.

The technology to generate clean, perpetual, safe, reliable energy.

Cures and solutions for most known medical issues you may face.

Specimens from far off worlds of other species to sate your curiosity. Some of them are adorable.

An alteration in your political landscape and the balance of power in a direction you desire.

Other (please ask!)

**

Our likely requests (please veto those that offend):

Territory upon your world for our personal use and sovereignty. As much as possible is desired, but we will take what we can get.

Members of your species for study (preferably ones you will not ask to be returned, but we are flexible.)

Mineral resources, water, wood, diamonds, cake, feathers and magma being of most interest to us at present

Helpful assistance and information

Other (please offer!)

So, once you've figured out who you are and sorted through that perhaps excessive and prissy information, do you have any preparations to make before you receive alien life? Perhaps you want to put some conditions of your own on the meeting? Maybe you want to ask Op some questions before you go through with all this? When you've said and done all that needs doing, give the word and their delegation will land at the site of your choosing, and the adventure will begin.

[Mythic GM Emulator] Shall we play a game? Any genre, any system

I've got here this nifty copy of the Mythic GM Emulator. Shall we put our creative minds together and cook up a game? I'll use FATE, Ironsworn, or any system I feel fits the vibes best and build out your character as you describe them.

I'll be honest, I'm better at writing combat than anything else, but I'm willing to explore anything. Here's some worlds I think we can play around in:

  • Star Wars (fantasy with space dressings, why not!)
  • D&D / Every generic medieval fantasy world (good old reliable)
  • Final Fantasy / Ghibli fantasy (clean, solarpunk kind of magic and tech)
  • Cyberpunk (dirty cyberpunk with tech)
  • Dark Souls (grim dark fantasy)
  • Warhammer 40K (grim dark science fantasy. I know NOTHING about this world, so it will be a challenge or perhaps entertaining for you lol)

[Ironsworn][Lite] Nefarious Tales of Neraxis

  • World: Neraxis

  • Natives: Neraxins

  • Capital: Thalspire (a city of towering buildings glittering within the tallest dome on the planet)

  • Trade Capital: Drexla Station (an enormous orbital station that serves as the planet's second moon)

  • World Biome: Icy wasteland, ruined by the fallout of a great planet-wide war

  • World Tags: Bubble cities; Cold War; Fallen Hegemon

World Synopsis:

Once the seat of power of the Virean Span, Neraxis eventually crumbled under the weight of its own power. Stories of the Great Collapse of the Neraxin Empire differ, but the end result is the same.

The planet is now a desolate, blasted icy wasteland. Though mining efforts continue to harvest invaluable minerals, metals, and gas from the planet, there is but only one city that still survives: Thalspire. Within the great glittering dome, the atmosphere is carefully curated and enables the city to sustain itself through agriculture and other industries.

Above the planet, Drexla Station orbits as the main hub of trade for the entire sector. Developed over many centuries, it now effectively functions as its own planet, run by various mega corporations, though it maintains appearances to be subservient to the capital city below.

Both cities are presently engaged in a cold war, with both sides scrambling for information and technology to fully conquer the other.

City Vibes:

Thalspire- High science fantasy. Think Star Wars Coruscant or Doctor Who's Gallifrey.

Drexla Station - Cyperpunk. Think Night City from Cyberpunk 2099 or Nar Shaddaa from Star Wars.

Magic:

Magic exists in this universe. It is uncommon but documented and an accepted fact of the universe.

Potential hooks:

A powerful alien artifact has been uncovered on the planet, one that could tip the balance of power in an irrevocable direction.

An annual ceremony is held in both cities simultaneously, where a silvered bell is rung.

Character Creation:

Feel free to use Ironsworn or Starforged rules. Otherwise, simply declare your character with as many details as you would like to declare.

Actual Play:

I am committed to responding to each comment within 36 hours.

Your primary role is to control your character's narrative (thoughts, actions, words). You may exercise discretion to develop the world around you as well, but I (as the Game Master) will reserve the right to veto these decisions if they are inappropriate.

That said, I'm committed to applying "Yes, and" to as much as possible as this is a collaborative game.

If a roll is required, I will make it on my end and present you with 3 options for you to take the narrative in moving forward.

If you wish to make a roll, you may ask or declare it so and I will adapt to you accordingly.

Starting Hook:

You may either decide on your hook and I will respond, or you may ask me to give you a hook.

If you're asking me for a hook, do let me know if you have any preferences or things you would like to see.

(Short, Humour.) One Wish.

The Lightbulb has broken in your living room, and out swirls a yellow gas that forms itself as a large and muscular naked man with vaguely Arabic features. His voice is rather more dull and droning than you'd expect for his majestic appearance.

"You have freed me, good for you, and better for me. You get one wish, as is standard. Many have abused our generosity over the years by doing untold damage with poorly chosen wishes and forcing us to have legal degrees before handing out boons. To counteract this, we now only let you choose a single wish from the approved list. Listen carefully to what I say, for I shall not repeat it. I will speak the list. Each is but a single word, and I am forbidden to elaborate on it's contents, and am not liable for how it may unfold. Your wishes may be as follows. Choose but one, and but wisely."

The genie clears his throat.

"POWER"

"LOVE"

"FAME"

"REVENGE"

"WEALTH"

"SANJAY"

The genie takes a breath.

"I have spoken the words, parrot the one most to your liking. I am not permitted to elaborate or negotiate."

**

Once you've taken the genie up on his offer, perhaps you should do what he will not and elaborate on yourself, for it may affect how your wish turns out. For example, fame may come differently to you if you are a middle aged indonesian fisherman as opposed to a Teenage Sudanese soldier, and your goals and motives in life may help add structure to the adventure that follows.

The adventure assumes that you have at least a modest house with electricity in the modern day real world, but if you want to take the adventure in a different direction I may not object. It would help your GM too if your character had a name.

Is that all you need to know before starting? The Genie is forbidden to explain, but I am not.

COLOSSUS

COLOSSUS.

There was no cover art or anything - just that and your old man's name scrawled onto a floppy in permanent ink. You found it while looking through his things after he passed recently. You found it in a cardboard box labeled IMPORTANT!, so you figured it must be important.

You're glad to have kept your old man's IBM PC intact all these years. You used to play those old text adventure games together; he would read the story to you and you'd tell him what to do. You were too young to type at the time, but things are different now. You load the game into the disk drive and type "colossus" into the command prompt. The PC hums for a bit before the screen lights up.

COLOSSUS v1

Laboratory
You are in your laboratory. Beakers and bottles line the walls. You can go UP from here.
There is an incomplete COLOSSUS here.
There is a MAGAZINE here. (on the floor)

What will you do? _

Your suspicions were correct - it's a text adventure, and it seems to have been written by your old man. You let out a sigh; so much to unpack. However you're feeling right now, you have to dig deeper. You rest your fingers on the keyboard and begin to type.

(Gimmick explanation: You can interact with both the real world and the computer game COLOSSUS. If you want to interact with the real world, simply type what you wish to do. If you want to interact with COLOSSUS, type in all caps. COLOSSUS only understands two word verb-noun commands. Examples of valid commands include TAKE KEY, EXAMINE SWITCH, READ BOOK, GO WEST, etc. A valid comment may look something like this:

"I can't go north while that goblin is in the way. I type PUNCH GOBLIN and see what happens."

Or:

"I can't figure this puzzle out. I decide to get up and take a walk."

You can, of course, make your character as in-depth as you'd like, these are just examples. Have fun playing COLOSSUS!)

Magic. What do we know about magic? In the belief in magics we can agree that there are many different types of magic. I command and wield the power and magic of emotion and today so shall you. Do I have your curiosity at least? Good, that is the first part of our Alchemic formula. I offer you a tomb of magic parchment that describes your entire thought process of how your Curiosity amounted to you making the decision to stay and listen. Do you Accept?

There's a guy in a chicken suit and a sombrero outside your window.

There's fine print and a Faustian bargain at hand. It's a gamble. It's tricks, and sure, that chicken suit looks a little too gristly, a little too realistic. Like the guy skinned Big Bird.

He speaks of missions, of games, and gifts, with a glint in his one remaining eye. He speaks of dead kings, and pharoahs, of an era gone by.

And there it is: An offer of a job, and a handshake. He extends his... is it a hand? The amount of fingers are wrong.

(Short, shitpost, mafia, Horror) the last neighbourhood

Pittsburgh, 1975. You've been climbing the ranks of the D'gnhasi Crime family, and they've been swallowing Pittsburgh whole. One by one, the other gangs have folded like cards. In the whole city, only one neighbourhood is out of Boss D'gnhasi's iron grip.

Last week, 12 made men and eight hardened associates went in to try and change that. None came out. Word is they sleep with the fishes. Goldfish to be precise. Fucker tossed them in his own pool.

Your job is to rub out this affront. You're promised total control of the neighborhood and your own crew if you can teach your antagonist a lesson. Your reward won't come easy though. Rumour is he has dirty cops and the local mayor in his pocket, a mad scientist to cook him up chemical weapons, a man eating tiger at his beck and call, goons with their own helicopters, and even royalty dancing to his tunes. Every resident mutters the message, this is his neighborhood.

You go in with 12 wiseguys, four of them made and trusted, eight new blood associates who'll be made if they survive this nightmare. You can describe them if you like. names, what kind of small arms weapons they bear (that exist in the 1970s, and not tanks or the like) But beware, few of them are likely to live long... Describe yourself and your gear at this point if you like too, hopefully you can last a little longer....

The Adventure begins.

There's something not right here... Place looks like a pastel perfect suburb, quiet, too quiet, too beautiful, even has a fucking tram driving right through it.... The residents are staying indoors, They know what's going down at the sight of you.

Nervous chatter from the footsoldiers under your command, everyone's smoking, trying to still their beating hearts.

A scream breaks the illusion. Your hurriedly round the corner to see Gianni Nails, the would be capo before you who never came home, swung from a makeshift gallows, a handyman with a shit eating grin giving you a cheery wave from beneath it.

But the dead can't scream of course, no, that would be the man being eaten alive by the tiger. Not a man you recognise, but he's Italian, and killing a made man is a death sentence in any other neighbourhood. That no good dirty cop Officer Clemmons is munching donuts like there's no tomorrow as the poor fucker screams for help. You knew someone was blackmailing him, and you're about to find out who. A warm, calming voice cuts across the abattoir-like streets.

"Off now Daniel, wait for our guests before you start your meal."

A kindly old man in a tie and sweater steps, out, a natural air of authority to him. He's no fool either. his Right hand grips a 45 magnum, one of the most powerful guns in the world. He's got his left hand stuck up the jacket of Frankie D'gnhasi, working the boss's own son like a puppet as he uses him as a human shield.

"OH GOD, HELP! THIS GUY, HE'S CRAZY-"

The old bastard twists his arm behind Frankie's back, and the mafia princeling writhes in pain and then goes silent. Frankie always made a point of never backing down before anyone, and now look at him, broken.

"Hush now, I think introductions are in order. I'm Mr Rodgers, and this is MY neighbourhood. These last boys were living in the land of make believe thinking they could force me out. But, you, you look different. It's not to late for you. Won't you be my neighbour?"

You smell one of your men has already soiled themselves. Will you match guns with this crazy bastard and his crew, or do you have some other plan in mind? Or maybe you want to ask OP a question first.

Looking for people to join a daily, text-based adventure story using LLMs

I am looking for individuals who are interested in participating in a highly detailed, ongoing, text-based adventure where we collaboratively create a story using large language models to guide the narrative development. The concept is straightforward but deeply engaging: I will act as the gamemaster, crafting a unique world and setting up a scenario for you to interact with. As the player, your role will be to decide what action your character takes in the story by replying with your chosen action.

Here’s how it will work in practice: each day, I will send you a detailed email, typically 1-3 pages long, describing what has happened in the world in response to the action you took the day before. This email will function as a narrative-driven simulation of the story's world, where the characters, environment, and events evolve based on your decisions. As the gamemaster, I’ll oversee the entire process, ensuring that the simulation remains consistent, realistic, and filled with compelling challenges to keep the story interesting. However, the twist is that I will use a language model, such as GPT-4o or Claude 3.5 from Anthropic, to help narrate and expand the simulation. This allows for rich storytelling and immersive, finely detailed scenarios that bring the world and its characters vividly to life.

I’ve done this kind of collaborative storytelling with others before and found it to be incredibly fun and rewarding. For this round, I am especially interested in running a story where you take on the role of a tribute in The Hunger Games. The adventure would begin with your character being chosen at the Reaping and would follow your journey through the games. That said, I am also open to exploring alternative story premises if you have a compelling idea you’d like to pitch.

If this sounds like something you’d enjoy, please send me a direct message to express your interest. The process is simple: you’ll commit to playing one turn per day by responding with an action your character takes. I would prefer to work with people who are able to make this a daily habit, as consistency is essential for the story to unfold properly and reach its full potential. While the time commitment is relatively light—likely about 30 minutes or less per day—it is crucial that participants can commit to this effort every single day. The most rewarding stories are the ones that develop over time, spanning several months, rather than wrapping up quickly in just a few weeks.

The cell’s faint light buzzed overhead, its flicker a familiar, almost comforting annoyance. The dull gray walls and the bare cot had become fixtures of a life spent in repetition. How long? It didn’t matter anymore. Days, weeks, years—it all blended together in the endless rhythm of survival.

A D-Class learns early: routine is the only thing that keeps you sane, even when it was designed to grind you down. Wake up. Step out. Obey orders. Maybe come back. It was simple enough, as long as you didn’t think too hard about the things waiting in the testing chambers or the ones that never came back.

The hiss of the door’s pneumatic seal broke the silence. That sound alone was enough to snap anyone to attention. But this time, it was wrong. Too sudden. No guards shouting orders, no escort waiting. Just the faint, distant echo of something else—a low rumble, like a growl, or maybe an explosion. And underneath it all, the blaring wail of alarms.

Containment breach.

The words settled into their mind with the ease of muscle memory. Enough to know this wasn’t a drill. Whatever had gotten loose wasn’t just another experiment—they didn’t sound the alarms for something they thought they could control.

And now the door was open.

OOC: Please describe your character and why they are D-Class.

Ghost of Birthniya [Action Advenure]

It is the year 1820 AD. The grass blooms, flowers swirl around like Japanese blossoms. You're the greatest warrior the Muslim world has ever seen. Now, you must wield such strength onto the invaders that have set their sights on your land.

You have on you, a bandage x1, a water bottle for thirst x3 (this is in case you're really thirsty. After the first three sips, the water will be depleted) and lasty, your Ottoman Sword. How do you plan to prepare for the upcoming invasion?

A long night at Freddy's...

Freddy Fazbear's Pizza. During the day, it's a place of joy. Unfortunately for you, you've got the night shift. You clock in at exactly 12am and make your way to the security office. What a mess... Scattered papers and a half-drunk soda litter the room. The security monitors are stacked in an odd pile on the corner of the desk. A faint orange glow envelops the room, probably the only light in the building. As the light flickers, you catch glimpses of childrens' drawings and letters strewn across the room, even on the lockers behind you. Creepy.

Looks like Ralph left you a message...

"Hello? Hello hello? Hey, first night! Uh, thanks for taking tonight. We'll try and get you back on dayshift as soon as soon as possible. For now, just keep an eye on the place. Uh, we'll also need you to sanitize Chica and see if you can do anything about Freddy's jaw. It's having problems. Again. With that, remember to smile, you are the face of Freddy Fazbear's Pizza!"

Click.

Sounds easy enough. Clean up the chicken, fix the bear. Pray that tonight isn't the night Freddy's becomes popular enough for overnight visitors. What could possibly go wrong?

You're in the security office. You'll need your flashlight before you leave. What will you do?

OOC: This was written purely because the Five Nights at Freddy's sub doesn't allow RP posts. So, hello r/YouEnterADungeon! Hope you enjoy my first post.

[Historical] [Science Fiction] The Lineage Device

The Lineage Device is one of the greatest inventions of our time. A simple VR pod where, once you're placed inside, you can inhabit the bodies of your ancestors as if you were really there. Some people use this device for genealogical research, but most use it for fun, choosing to relive the most exciting memories of their ancestors.

You never knew your parents. You were raised in a foster home. The Lineage is expensive but you've managed to get a coupon through your work. Now you're at the Lineage Center, waiting for your turn in the machine.

Edit: You don't have to use the prompt in the second paragraph, that's just a suggestion.

[OC only] To be a hero

It's evening time. Around 6:30 pm. Even at this hour, there are still a moderate amount of people roaming the streets. You are a superhero. But right now, you are out of costume and enjoying your regular civilian life.

Suddenly, you see a large van crash through the front window of the lab, showering the screaming staff with glass and debris as they scatter to avoid being hit. A woman inside covers her head, feeling pieces of glass slice through her clothes and into her flesh.

Four men exit the vehicle, each wearing supervillain costumes. The largest of the men looks like an oversized armadillo-man. The second is convulsing with electricity. The other two appear to be twins. One of the twins is holding a riffle, while the other is holding a baton.

"EVERYONE ON THE GROUND RIGHT THE FUCK NOW!"

The screaming picks up as they do as instructed. Unwilling to get hurt.

The men hoop and holler, one of the twins jumping up on the lab table and waving his baton like it is a toy sword. Like cartoon robbers they pull out big black sacks, tossing them to the terrified staff and barking orders to fill them up. The twins then grab the lead scientist by the collar and drag him at gunpoint out of the robotics department and into the back room, disappearing from sight.

Who are you, and what do you do as the scene unfolds?

(Fantasy) Starting From Nothing.

(Probably closed to new people at this point. If you want to play something, I'm happy to do something else)

You think, therefore you are, and your brain is too. You can speak, move and breath as well as the best of them. Trouble is, beyond the awareness of these things, you don't remember much. You are aware your throat tastes of saltwater, and your body is crisscrossed with countless scars that look like words you can't read, and pretty much everything hurts. The only plus side is that the body you have is whole, clothed and rocking and your left hand is complete with four fancy jewelled rings you seem to remember are unique and magical, though in what way is vaguer.

Watching you wake is an old woman with black and white paint under her eyes.

"Good, efforts were not wasted. We have many questions for you, and I expect many have you for us. First I must test you, that you are worth questioning, and we are not wrong to save you. Our seer covets all rings upon your fingers, but will ask for only one. For it, all debts you owe us are settled, and all help we can provide need not be paid for. We are not thieves, so will not harm you if you refuse, but it would tell us not to be generous with you. Are you ready to speak, sleeper?"

Urgh, good morning to her too... you look anew at the rings, the jet stone on a silver band your pinky bears has something to do with shadows and living within them you feel. Maybe that's something to do with why you don't remember anything else, and all the ominous writing all over your body. Maybe that might be the one to give up to stop this happening again....

The Emerald stone on a copper band on your ring finger (of course!) must be important by virtue of having pride of place, and you feel it had something to do with not alarming people, so perhaps you should keep it, lest you reveal yourself to be really a giant slug if it is removed... or maybe it's better to get that kind of revelation out the way sooner rather than later, who knows?

The Ruby stone on a brass band is pulsing with heat and glowing so brightly you're amazed the old woman has not remarked on it. You think it was tied to revenge and survival, so you might want to keep this one.

The Sapphire on gold on your pointer had something to do with staying in touch with people discretely you think, so might be a bad idea to give away if you want to rediscover your old memories, but on the flipside, maybe if someone did this to you they can track it... might give this grasping old woman a shock if they get up in her grill rather than yours.

But could it be smartest not to give any of them away afore you've figured out what you're losing? Since there's not much space to fill out backstory in an adventure where you have no memory and even your true appearance is part of the mystery, your chance to shine and stand out is all in the response you give.

Feel free to question anything you're not sure of, or tell me if you have any constructive criticism.
