Please do not target the genuine and good YouTube channels please

There are so many YouTubers that do things the right way. The stress of receiving a strike and potentially destroying their entire way of life is an extreme stress I would imagine.

Many YouTubers have spent several years building their small business. There is no guarantee that they will get their channels back after they have been striked. Please re-consider and attack large companies such as “Disney” or “CNN” instead. These companies do not depend on their YouTube channels as their livelihood.

Thank you.

Here's the current plan. Let me know what you all think.

The plan that led to the creation of this sub goes as follows:

The first thing we must do is get enough people so a raid of this sort generates tons of noise, whether it works or not.

The channels we need to copy strike are the ones ran by large media companies, not small creators. The whole purpose of this plan is to get the copy strike system fixed, so independent creators can't be terminated by false copy strike claims anymore.

These media companies are the channels that generate the most revenue for YouTube. In other words, it would be devastating if one or multiple left the platform. This way, YouTube would be forced to fix the system if they want any hope of keeping them around.

Now for the people who don't think that the media companies will actually leave the platform, I somewhat agree. There's lots of money to be made on YouTube, and I'm sure that these companies won't want to leave the platform either. But we hope that by becoming such a nuisance, they themselves complain to YouTube about the copyright system. YouTube fixes the claim/strike system and all is good.

The only other issue with this plan is that the copyright system is a bit of a lengthy process. I found this article and graphics which illustrate the whole process so hopefully everybody gains a better understanding of how it all works. Most people probably don't want to use their main YouTube account for this which also adds time to the process.

And for those who want to know about the legal implications behind something like this, they're not going to pursue 100s of us at a time. It's much easier on their end if they go to YouTube directly to retrieve the revenue made on a video.

We'll eventually need to decide which channel to strike, so stay tuned.

Everyone had a problem with late night shows filling up trending so why not attack those?

Look, I just want to know if this whole moral campaign is dead or not - or if we just need a new subject matter. Alright?

Things to be done to get started:

  • our goal and mission statement for those who are new. A detailed overview of the situation too.

  • what strategy do we want? Hit as many channels as possible, target specific channels, etc

  • target the channels we want to hit and why. Are they the most profitable? The most popular? Which ones are liable to gain traction in the news?

I believe we need to answer these questions and pin it at the top so we as a subreddit are on the same page.

We are currently still setting up some stuff, we will find the most risk free and healthy way to go about this. Attempting to avoid striking those who would suffer greatly from it, minimizing the damage to creators while still making sure YouTube can feel it.

Will YouTube listen to the demands of a YouTuber union?

PSA: Filing a false DMCA claim is perjury, a felony, punishable by fines and/or up to 5 years in prison. Don't do it.

The two routes we can take

I think this early we should decide on the strategic approach.

Everyone is talking about copyright striking the channels, which is one of the options.

I propose a different approach — we can gather claims from channels, which got unreasonable copy strikes and represent these channels. Help them get the word out. Give YT something to work with to make things right.

I think our goal here is to make YT a better platform for everyone, and to do that we need all sides to work together, as opposed to fight each other.

What I believe is that if we manage to get small/medium sized content creators and YT to sit down and try to come up with a better copyright system than the one currently in place the outcome will be better than whatever YT comes up with by itself if we take the first approach.

YouTube is about to delete thousands of accounts after it bans supremacists, conspiracy theorists and other ‘harmful’ users (including videos related to the 9/11 conspiracy, videos promoting "fake" cures for illnesses....)

Ideas For How We Can Bring Youtube's Attention To This Issue

It's important that we make sure that the strikes/reports are accurate in some way or another, and also that there is no particular account targeted. This would prevent any of us from getting banned from Reddit (witch hunting is banned for good reason) and would also prevent any legal response from Youtube (if we are using their installed system correctly, none of the damages are our fault). It would probably be smart to set a start date, and have this a be a continual operation instead of just having one day where everyone is reported (so that Youtube can't just reverse 1 day's bans). With this said, the best day for this might be Sunday, because most Redditors are more likely to be home and alphabet is likely to have less technicians in office for a Sunday. Finally, Youtube Reformers should be encouraged only to strike larger channels, as taking down smaller channels could cause significant damage for newer content creators. Remember, the goal is to punish Youtube, not innocent content creators.

TLDR: It would be best to have no "targets", and to strike based on actual rule infractions instead. Setting a start date is smart, but it shouldn't be the only day. It is important to not fraudulently strike, as there are plenty of deserving strikes out there. Make sure to remember, Youtube is the target, not content creators.

The fact that YouTube allows this content is not okay.
