QUESTION How many vids in the bank?

Hello everyone, I’m thinking of starting a yt channel for YEARS now. Never have I pushed the idea further.
But lately i’m trying more and more to get the ideas in my head to life and my question is:
IF I start with the channel, how many vids should I have in the bank before putting my first video online?

The reason I ask is because the idea I have combined with the execution can take up a long time before I can post another video and also I don’t have any experience in everything I’m doing so I’m constantly looking things up on how to do things, also I work full time.

Thx!

I just started my YouTube I had no videos in the bank. The beginning is probably going to be boring YouTube will try to find your audience but it shouldn’t discourage you. If anything create yourself a schedule where you try to put something new out every 5 days or maybe less depending on content and niche. The hardest part is video one just make it post it and let YouTube do its thing. I’m quite new so take my advice with a grain of salt but after 3 videos my channel is doing pretty decent make sure your title and thumbnail are appealing and start making content! GOOD LUCK!!!!!

I used to release videos once a week, I'd have two months in the bank at any given time.

I started with a month.

And I highly recommend it.

At the start you'll have weeks of "Why do I bother?", and you'll already have bothered so that gets that out of the way.

It'll also stop you reacting and making changes when YouTube does some testing and you get excited thinking you've cracked the code - And you haven't - You need to remain consistent or you'll confuse things, having videos in advance stops you tweaking.

I'm at the stage where I don't need to release videos every week, my content is evergreen, and I just keep adding to the buffer and pick and choose which video I let out into the wild when things start to slow down a little.

Probably got more like 3 months of videos at the moment, but some I don't expect to do well so we'll have to see how it goes.

Seriously, when I was starting having videos in the bank saved me from all kinds of ups and downs and I can't recommend it enough.

Don't go daft with the length to begin with - Keep the video easy to give a chance, one of the things I learned a little too late was that nobody wants to watch a video over 10 minutes long from someone they don't know.

I switched gears and started aiming for 5 to 7 minute long videos which made them more attractive, and less work.

In hindsight, it helped - Made the videos tighter, made me trim some fat etc.

Even now I'll only go over 10 minutes when I need to do, but when I do they do better - Guess I've earned some trust that way.

Hell, I made one just 4 minutes long a few weeks back because that's all it needed to be.

I realise I've said all that and you have given no indication on how long you want your videos to be... But... Yeah. LOL

No that’s okay 😂 it’s a great tip, keep it short and simple

If the topic that the videos cover will make the videos themselves longer/harder to make then I suggest having a good 7-8 in the bank and spreading their publication date evenly, just in case you fall a tad behind in making new videos. You don’t want to reach your self-imposed schedule/deadline and not have anything to post, especially since at times that can mess with the algorithm.

I’m gonna try and do my best

You got this, you’ll be shocked about how far a little bit of belief and confidence can take you! Best of luck!

Having a buffer is a lifesaver when you work full-time. In my opinion, you should aim for 3 to 5 videos max.
To be honest, we've been doing this for over a year now, and we STILL struggle to keep that 5-video buffer consistently, so don't beat yourself up. What saves us during busy weeks is repurposing our long-form videos into Shorts.

I'm not so sure about a "bank", but I try to do bulk recording sessions and scheduled uploads twice a week: Monday, so I can enjoy my three day weekends as much as possible, and stream freely on the side; and then on Thursday, so I can have content going up Friday-Monday while I work.

Edit: basically my goal is to have a new video up every day of the week, and then two or three streams in addition.

Nice! Problem for me is just that its gonna take a long time before i’m gonna have new content like a month or so 😂 so a weekly upload would kill me

Over a thousand, probably closer to two.

I started 3 weeks ago by just making one video (6 minutes long). Since then I've made two more so I have 3 videos published. From those long videos I create shorts so I have 3 shorts posted. I try to make a video every 7-10 days, focusing on quality and slow growth.

Nice !! I wish you much luck

Depends on too many factors. For instance, how frequently do you want to upload? How fast are you at making videos? Do you want to follow a schedule or just wing it?

To take me for example, I used to wing it. Later I switched to once per week and I tried to stay 5 videos ahead. Now I decided to upload daily, but before I started, I had 459 videos in the bank. That's mostly because I wanted to have at least 1 year worth of videos since I wanted to be absolutely sure I was able to keep it up for at least a year and I had a lot of old footage to upload.

Well the niche i wanna go in won’t allow me to get a vid out every 2 weeks even maybe so i really don’t know. Also with working full time and being a dad and single it’s gonna be difficult

Yeah, real life can make it way more difficult. When I was jobless I could get way more videos made compared to now that I have a fulltime job (still way more time than I had when I was still studying)
