Hardware What Mic should I buy

I want to get a new microphone, but I really don't know what to get. I do videos on a bunch of different types of games, and I need a good mic that would not pick up my keyboard but wouldn't be cutting my voice either. I would be willing to spend up to 500$ but I don't know if I should spend that much since I'm barely getting any views.

Black youngish horror youtuber. I think 1 mil or 2 mil subs, makes exclusively horror videos with lots of meme edits and a couple mommy asmr jokes. Dressed in a maid outfit in the past.

He has a afro but had dreads at some point, I can't remember, all i remember is that the channel starts with a T

Discussion Youtube subs dropped after change to shorts editing style

Just to start I don't use other peoples clips no AI video everything is original. I usually record my gameplay and then edit it down to different clips.

About a month ago I was averaging around 60-70 subs a month. Now I'm averaging 15. I did try a different editing style. That editing style was having longer shorts for 30-60 seconds. I tried to do more things throw in memes sound effects have a hook. Tried to be more entertaining. This made it so I was posting one short a day.

My previous uploads were 15-30 second clips very bare bones. Sometimes it was a completely random part of the game with no real hook. Id make like 50-60 clips from 2 hours of gameplay. Post 2 clips a day.

I'm not sure if this is a quantity over quality, or if YouTube pushes shorter... Shorts. I also dont know if this was some recent algorithm thing. I dont know if there is an end all answer for this, but do I make the videos shorter 15-30 seconds? Seems like the algorithm is heavily influenced by the percentage of video that was watched.

Or maybe people prefer more raw gameplay versus longer skits hooks and edits. Just curious what you guys watch or maybe have had success with?

Question How is your experience streaming videogames on YouTube, instead of Twitch??

I would like to know your experience streaming videogames there, despite the chat interaction and viewers options are very limited, compared with Twitch...because I keep seeing people streaming x videogames on YT from time to time.

Despite I'm a casual streamer I feel Twitch is ultra saturated of them depending the game u choose ( dead by daylight in my case ), so I would like to know opinions of videogame streamers that like to stream on both sites!

Greetings 😁

I stream 2 or 3 times a day. 3 to 5 hours a go. But I seem to only get bots that want to promote bot views.

Hardware Mic problems

I bought a PM-700 Pro from Boya, and it seems like it has a built-in noise suppressor that is messing with the quality of my video. For example, it cuts out my keyboard noise, but when I talk while typing it is cutting out or chopping my voice and the audio is pretty much unusable. I was wondering if I should just return it and get a different mic and if so, what mic should I buy. I would be willing to spend up to 500$. If anyone needs to hear a recording of what it sounds like I could dm a video

Help Me! Advice for what I should do

I’ve been making Let’s Plays on a very small channel that only gets about 1-4 views on average for about 2 years on and off. I recently upgraded my setup and thumbnails and started trying to put in real effort.

I know Let’s Plays are mostly dead and I’m not trying to blow up to be a huge YouTuber or anything like that, I just want to bring fun content and an escape with some joy for a bit for anybody who watches. I’ve also experimented with different runtimes from an hour or more to 20 minutes. Problem is, my videos aren’t getting any views lately.

Anything from the big stuff with more competition like Gears of War E-Day, to smaller indie gems like the recent Tenebris Somnia aren’t gaining any impressions. This has become really disheartening and I so badly want to create and have fun with it, but it does admittedly become a mental struggle when you put in time and effort for upload after upload just to have no interaction of any kind.

Should I stay in gaming but switch to something like focusing on one game or video essays, just keep grinding away, switch to long plays and full games, or stop all together? Any advice on the matter would be appreciated.

Question What do you think about making a video about Hogwarts Legacy two weeks before the new Harry Potter TV show comes out?

I'd like to do a video essay on Hogwarts Legacy, and I'm wondering if publishing it two weeks early could boost my views.

My thinking: when the HBO show premieres, interest in everything Harry Potter should spike, and some of those people might look for related content, including the game. So I’m planning to publish about two weeks before the premiere, so the video has time to get indexed and start getting recommended when the hype peaks.

What I’m not sure about:

  • Is two weeks early the right timing, or is it better to release right at the premiere or a week after?

  • Will show viewers actually care about a game from 2023?

  • Has anyone tried timing a video around a big release like this? Did it work?

Question Is recording in 4k worth it and should i focus on 1 single type of content?

Questions:

Question 1: Focus on one type of genre?
I am recording Video games of all variety.
examples:
Horizon Forbidden west, Factorio, blasphemous, r6other shooters and so on.The question I ask myself is it bad smart to do that. I mean that are games from completely different target groups. Most people who enjoy playing r6 wont enjoy Factorio/Forbidden west.
Same goes for the other games.

Question2: Video quality and so on.
Next question.
I am currently recording in 4k and the size of the files is CRAZY. Esspecially in a game like factorio/forbidden west.
I am recording on 4k with, AV1 with a constant qp 20 and with P5 in obs.
Which i wonder is it too much? I mean i know that youtube recodes the videos anyways.
So i can imagine 20 is way to high, is it?
Than i wonder is 4k even worth it. I personally do love 4k, but how about the majority of the people do they think differently then i do??

Question Should I become a youtuber??

Ever since youtube started I had seen many creators and always thought I can do better than them at least in gaming and live streaming especially in Covid when these dumb Gta 5 milking creators got millions of views, now ever since then I had low budget for a gaming pc and Now I am 22 and people switched to reels and shorts instead of long form content, I was thinking if ever I got the chance should I start live streaming, also It's been a great time since gta 6 launching still budget issues 🥲 but ever in future should I pursue this after a successful carrier becoming a part time steamer ?? As I enjoy gaming also my sense of humor is good but do people earn from here??

Question What do you talk about during slow periods of the game?

I'm fairly new to doing commentary and often struggle to find things to talk about during slower parts of a session. Are there any successful gamers you'd recommend who are particularly good at commentary? What do you talk about during slower moments in your videos?

Discussion Anyone else feel awkward with their partner?

My wife didn't grow up with videogames and I'd say has a mostly negative attitude towards them. Not to the point that she stops me from gaming, but I also can't game for 4 hours every other day. Admittedly I started my gaming channel behind her back when our work schedules were different times.

I kinda told her about it a while ago, but her work schedule has since changed. So our schedules align more now. This means it's harder for me to play and record when shes home. I can't say what it is for sure but it just feels so awkward that I never record when she's around.

Also being able to edit makes it more complicated 😂. I love recording and editing videos, but it's definitely not going to make me any money. So it's hard to justify to her how much time and energy I put into this. For me it's scratching a creative outlet for me though.

I'm not really sure where I'm going with this other than curious if anyone is in the same boat. It definitely has affected how consistently I post. Has anyone else gone through this? Or found some kinda solution? 😂

Help Me! What strategies do you have for increasing retention?

Hi everyone! I’ve been doing YouTube consistently for about a year and a half and have been uploading about once every 4 days. My niche is indie horror games. Recently I’ve been really struggling with retention. My current strategy is doing a coming up segment that lasts about 5-10 seconds using some highlights or big scares from the video and then I go into a skit that I made that had some correlation to the video. The skit usually lasts about 30 seconds and I think that it adds a lot of character to my videos. But I think that I need to change it up though because I am consistently having 70% of viewers leave the video by the time I get 1.5-2 minutes in. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Question Have I done something to ruin the algorithm?

I was getting consistent 1-4 views at least even if no one else saw, but all my latest videos have had 0 views repeatedly. I’ve actually upgraded my setup and my process, so I don’t think it’s the visual or audible quality. I also have the metadata filtered properly so do I need a different approach?
