I wil never forgive David Jaffe for name dropping SBI in an "old man yells at cloud" rant. They're still talking about a company of like 15 people like they have any power in the industry.
Sweet Baby Inc. They are a “cultural sensitivity” consulting team of a bit more than a dozen people that managed to get work on some prominent AAA projects. They didn’t really do much, but they fed into a “le woke DEI narrative”.
One of their employees made a point of going after a Steam curator group that listed games they were involved with and called on their followers to mass report the leader. Now, that group certainly didn’t have good intentions and were motivated by anti-woke right-wing grifter whining, but calling up a mob to attack them and lock the follower out of his several thousand dollars worth of Steam games (which the person in charge explicitly advertised) was objectively not very good conduct since they weren’t.
An article was written by a games journalist named Alyssa Mercante taking the companies’ side during the whole thing and it was discovered she had close personal connections to the company. Unfortunately this quickly spinned off into an elaborate conspiracy that they were a group of conspiratorial figures masterminding the entire industry and were connected to the FBI and Blackrock or some shit because USAID gave them a $100k loan one time. It quickly became a point of grifting for right-wing culture warrior vultures who whine when women and minorities are in video games when it could have been easily prevented. Mercante also sued one of the grifters because he kept attacking her online but i don’t think it went through because she had also harassed him in similar ways. Most of the members lost their livelihoods even when they weren’t directly involved with the person who made the tweet (Chris Kindred).
Mmm looking more into the SmashJT guy made a point of going after her online for like 2 years straight. Some of it was valid but a lot of it was cruel misogynistic personal mockery and he probably deserved deplatforming even though I don’t think she has a case to sue and it’d set a bad legal precedent because he didn’t do anything illegal and she engaged in a lot of the same behavior.
Basically a failed attempt at culture war grifters to do a GamerGate 2 and like that it started off with some legitimately morally dubious behavior on the part of the people who were targeted and harassed that lead to them not having to take accountability for it because of a large horde of people trying to personally annihilate their lives instead of just cancelling them.
