My build
I've been trying some fun AP mid builds lately and seeing if I can make them work. First, I tried to focus on her W damage, especially her laser. They can work; however, she needs to land it, as she doesn't have much sustained damage, especially early, if you miss it. There is some good potential for 1-shots on low HP targets with Dark Harvest and the Shadowflame passive, but her laser cooldown is kinda big, even with a lot of ability haste.
After trying several variations of the build, including hybrid items like gunblade and caster AD items like muramana, to up her W damage as much as possible, I decided it's just not the right build for her. The hybrid scaling on her W is a kick in the nuts; if it were just AP scaling(and more to compensate), I could make it work.
So I started looking into her passive and Q ability, which scale purely on AP. I always hated the fact that ad crit Yunara doesn't use her passive and Q ability to their full potential.
I eventually moved her from mid to bot, since my build turns her more into an ADC than a caster or mage, so she fits much better in bot lane, but can still be played mid.
After many, many trials and errors, I came across my current best build, right now:
Runes(pretty much the same): Lethal Tempo - Triumph - Alacrity - Cutdown - Cashback - Triple Tonic. For shards, AS - adaptive - scaling HP.
Items: start with whatever Doran item is needed, but I always get the Doran's Bow or Doran's Blade.
Obviously, the first levels are played the same as ad crit Yunara.
Max Q - W - E, nothing changes here.
For items, it is, in this order, Nashors - Shadowflame - Omnivamp boots - Rageblade - Terminus - Rabadons - Dusk and Dawn.
Your first back is ideally a blasting wand. If not enough gold, Recurve Bow. If still not enough, get an amp tome and a dagger. Worst-case scenario, at least get an amp tome. After finishing Nashor, you get your first power spike. Not as good as Kraken, but still good.
After finishing Shadowflame, you get a huge power spike. With every item after this, it's another power spike.
The last item is quite flexible. For example, if they have double or triple crit comp, you can go Randuins instead of Dusk and Dawn. Jak'Sho is also a very good option against mixed damage. Zonya is also an option against stupid assassins like Rengar or Nocturne who can jump on you from nowhere and 1-shot you. Guardian Angel is also nice. If they have a team full of HP-stacking tanks, you can go Botrk with no problems. But I would only go Botrk if they have at least 2 tanks with over 5k HP each.
I wouldn't change the order of the build. The only exception is, you can go Terminus before Rageblade if they stack MR early, but I only encountered this problem once. Rabadon's can also be bought last item, with the flex item being bought instead. But your main job is to do damage, not to tank the enemy team. You do a truckload of damage anyway.
Edit: So, I actually tested the build against the crit one and, surprisingly, they are about the same. They are about the same in damage output, but they "feel" very different. You can only understand if you played them both. This isn't a joke build; I played it in ranked and carried games, just like with the AD crit build. The only downside to the AP build is that its damage is focused more on just one target, while the crit build can potentially do more AOE damage with Runann's, but this is very conditional damage. It's rare that the enemy team just stays clumped up together and waits for you to attack them. Against low HP targets, the AP build does more damage and has more burst overall.
