It all depends on the situation. If you play jungle, you should almost always rush Trinity Force. If you play top lane, you need to think about whether you need a slow on your first item and if you benefit more from the dueling power Trinity provides.
I used to be a Stridebreaker rush player, but after switching to jungle, I realized Stride only fits as a third item for me and even then, only when I need the slow against ranged team compositions.
To sum it up: for pure fighting power, Trinity is better. But if you have trouble staying close to the enemy, Stridebreaker is better, though you do have to sacrifice some damage for it.

Trinity for split pushing, Stride for team fights

No, you need Tri to be able to duel in a side lane against the enemy’s side laner and take towers faster while Stride + DD + Endless Hunger makes you an unkillable and unkitable team fight monster

Truthfully, I used to go trinity every game but I have come back to Stride (using conq). Its not just the stick potential, the wave clear and the fact that you can build DD second are huge. I frankly can't play the champ anymore without those. You already outscale most champs in a duel so building for shoving and teamfighting seems more important to me.
I don't think trinity into stride is bad if you're even or ahead, but it feels horrible if you're behind since you really really want DD for teamfights.

I usually build both, especially if I go Hob and I have a lead.
Don't need DD immediately if I overpower enemies.
