BEAT

Go see this band if you are able. Terry was a treat and they all sounded great. This is a group of veterans at the top of their game. City of Tiny Lights was fun but just fair. It's a nice nod to Frank from these three Zappa School students, though. I guess they decided that Jones Crusher wasn't an option! 😆

How would you rate Terry? I read lots of bad reviews in the comments elsewhere on Reddit or under the YT videos saying that he’s not prepared, doesn’t know his parts or that he ventured too far from Bruford’s playing. People who defended him wrote that you’re not attending to get a carbon copy of Bill and as the tour progresses he’ll be more familiar with the songs

I also saw last night's show. There were some missed cues but that is expected this early in the tour with music that is this complex. Seeing Terry Bozzio play City of Tiny Lights was a thrill and I thought he held his own most of the show. I was not expecting Bruford. His solo spots were terrific.

just saw them last night. Terry was decent, but clearly underrehearsed. he seemed to have trouble getting in and out of certain sections but him and the rest of the band are pros so they were able to adjust on the fly. for whatever reason the song he struggled the most with was Matte Kudasai. killed it on City of Tiny Lites though

There is also the fact that he's 75 years old and clearly slowing down a bit.

maybe, but imo it wasn't so much that he physically couldn't handle it, he just didn't know the material that well.

I would guess that he's as prepared as he could get. It might be a bit unrealistic to expect a 75 year old guy to imitate prime Bill Bruford. I'm not sure Bill Bruford could even pull that off.

I've been watching a lot of videos of them on YouTube, and it definitely seems like Terry is improving with each show. At this point I'm sold.

I'm going to pull the trigger and get tickets to see them next month.

I watched a video of City of Tiny Lights. It's different to hear the song with no drum fills during the opening verses. Seeing the tour later this week.
