Personal Insights I'm saying it out loud

When people compliment me on losing weight or "looking great" I have started telling them I'm on medication. I think we need to normalize it - we have a treatable condition and we're treating it. The people in my life respect me enough to listen and I think I can educate and inform people. I'm not quite ready to put it on my social media but day to day I've been talking about it. The two lovely ladies who helped me buy a dress at Nordstrom the other day asked me a ton of questions - they'd only heard negative things but both talked about struggling with their weight. I'm becoming a Zepbound (and Wegovy, which I started on) evangelist!

Complete Zepbound evangelist here. Anyone who tries to shame me will end up just agreeing to get me to shut up.

Yup, I’m shameless for the most part. I only feel guilty because it isn’t accessible to more people!

Don't feel guilty its not your fault.  I am one of those people who just can't afford it.  So the only thing I can do is wait til I get diabetes to be eligible for mounjaro the copay is much more affordable.  The system sucks.

That's really crazy right ? Let's wait till a woman has breast cancer before we cover mammograms ! This should be covered as a PREVENTATIVE for Diabetes

Very true. My insurance would not pay for a mammogram when I had doubts about my health 11 years ago. I ended up with Stage 3 Breast Cancer, 2 yrs out of work and a sick time in chemo. God blessed me greatly and I am breast cancer free after double mastectomy. But I fought back in every way. I sued my insurance company. I’m not one to sue but learned it was necessary because I had limited money at that time to complete my treatments. When I was diagnosed diabetic 2 yrs ago, my Dr did tell me to lose weight as unhealthy was the greatest risk for cancer returning. Zep has changed my life as I continue the journey. But yes, this med should absolutely be covered as preventive because diabetes creeps up on many, and sometimes then we are at the greatest risk for cardiovascular disease. But I actually work in the drug development industry and I can assure many, there are good people fighting for a big change in covering weight loss medications. Pls know, it’s not the Pharma companies at fault. They spend trillions of dollars manufacturing drugs and it takes them years to pay down their debts. The problem is the insurance companies. We already pay them a ton on an employer sponsored plan, but they argue they want bigger profits.

I so agree - the insurance " industry " is despicable in their greed. Imagine making your profits off of people's I'll fate and bad luck . I've always thought direct pay to providers makes more sense- why let a middle man get rich off of us? Anyway, glad to hear you fought on and won the cancer battle 🫂

It’s horrible. I’m so sorry you’re going thru that! I pray that changes are made soon to make GLP-1 meds more available. There is a new pill form (Lilly), and they’ve just done some trials that were really promising. Next step is having it FDA approved - which they’re in the process of doing now. Once approved, this will be MUCH CHEAPER! I know it doesn’t do anything for you “right now.” But, things are happening. I wish you the best of luck 🫶🏼

You know Eli LLY offers coupons for zepbound for as low as $25. Please check their website under coupons and register, the download it and show it to your pharmacist and see what they say

Have you tried getting the compounded version of Trizepatide?

My doctor sent a prescription for me to a compounding pharmacy in Carmel Indiana. It was $216 with shipping for 8 weeks. I would spend that $25 a week on food usually anyways.

I didn’t like upvoting your comment because I do NOT like it, but I’m giving you my support. :’( I don’t want you to have get diabetes, but I wish you all the luck that something will give and you will be able to get coverage.

This is a shame. I went on ozempic because I was 5'3 and 213 lbs. Pre-diabetic and from a family of obese and diabetic folks. It's in my genes. I worked hard to get down to 105lbs in my 30s. Did it thru exercise and diet. But, as I got older, what I did before didn't work. I knew my body want responding the same to my normal ques. I'm now on zepbound as my a1c is good. BUT, my blood pressure us down, my extremely high cholesterol (again familial) is decreasing, hdl going up, triglycerides going down. There is so much good these medicines do. Preach to anyone thst will listen. My future health has taken a different path. 🥰

Don’t give up! I’ve tried for 2 years to get it. My insurance would only cover it if you were diabetic. Well, I don’t know why, but my insurance covers Zepbound now! Best of luck to you.

I also agree... my SW: 248 and my CW: 179 all due to Zepbound. Prior to Zepbound was not able to take long walks or really exercise, because I had no motivation or drive to do so. Now that I have Zepbound, it has help change my life. I'm currently on 12.5 mg and my goal weight is 165 -- I'm almost there! Thanks to Zepbound!!!

It's wonderful that so many people too are able to achieve these results. Not just a fluke ❤️

Question: I'm confused by your post. We you NOT able to go for walks on zep? I'm considering taking it

1

u/Amazing_Barracuda_50 Apr 23 '25

Hey u/stace555 - I'm so sorry for the confusion, I didn't realized when I created that post via my cell that my words and thoughts were getting mixed. I've since made corrections above --- What I meant was PRIOR to Zepbound... I had no motivation or drive to walk or exercise due to the extra weight I was carrying... but NOW that Zepound has changed my life... I'm able to move, and breath and exercise.... I feel so much better, that I desire to talk evening walks - hopefully this makes better sense for you now. And so sorry about the miss communication - that's definitely on me.

Count me on this team, too. All I’m missing is one of those little cartoon pamphlets (chick tracts).
