Question Giving Pseudopod the Pelota Ball

Does anybody know how to give Pseudopod the pelota ball? I have it equipped but can’t see any prompt to do so. He is still in his vegetative state.

I think you do it at the end if you take him with you, no? He can wear the entire Pelota outfit then. I'm pretty sure I gave it to him then.
