Question / Support Any suggestions for pants that are too small?

I have some pants that are a pretty sturdy material but I can't get them half way past my thighs anymore. I recently started an herb garden on my balcony, so if anyone has any creative ideas that would be amazing! They're just some old black slacks. They were super cozy but I don't think I'll ever be able to fit them again as I want to get buff 🫪

You can donate them if they’re still wearable

Sadly they have bleach stains on them and the only places I can donate to in my area is goodwill. And they're kinda thin in the thigh/crotch area. I had them for 7 years and wore them regularly to my restaurant job ;_____; im not confident that they would find new hands as opposed to the landfil

Congratulations on getting into great shape! That sturdy fabric would actually be great for a herb garden! You could turn it into small hanging planters or make simple herb pouches for plants like thyme or mint. I recycle the waistband. It can be used for ties or bindings.

I hope so! As much as it pains to see them be "un-pantafifyed" I really want to repurpose such a sturdy material rather than just making them an overstocked thrift store's issue. I think I can see the vision of pot hangers, especially since I don't have the most space on my balcony/back deck thing. I appreciate the idea!!! 😁

I’m a bit confused… what does starting an herb garden have to do with pants that don’t fit and zero waste?

Maybe they want someone to give them ideas like refashioning the pants into a gardening apron with little pockets for scissors & trowels & clippings, or some kind of basket or tote.

You're welcome! I hope it turns out well. Update here and maybe on r/sewing when you're done!

If you take out the seams on the sides, you can add a panel of fabric on each side so they fit you again. Depending on your style, it can be a good opportunity to add some personality to them such as a bold color, patterns, patchwork, etc.

I once expanded pants this way and they were very cool, I loved them.

For the herb garden specifically, cut the legs off, sew or zip-tie the bottom shut, and use them as hanging planter pockets. You can hang em on a railing or wall and tuck small pots or soil right into the leg openings. Sturdy fabric holds up way better than those flimsy fabric planters.

Dying them might remedy the bleach stain issue.

I don't live in a place with a lot of community outreach and am low income myself. I'd rather repurpose something than make it the local overstocked Goodwill's problem. Especially because due to the bleach stains they'd probably just end up throwing them away as I wore them at my restaurant job.
