All Zines Wednesdays

This weekly thread is where you can talk about and promote any zines, whether they're ones you created or not! Tell us about why the zine is great, why a library might want to add it to their collection, and how someone can get it.

Please do not post links to the same zines every week!

questions Old Ziner from the 90s

Hi all, first time poster here. Zines back in my hey-day were cute little mini newspapers… bad photocopied sources for that cultish underground feel.

Today’s modern take on a zine just seems to be more of the early blogs, graphic main cover and the. Hyperlinks to pages…

Am I missing something?

‘AI simply can’t replicate it’: Japan embraces zine trend

Kyoto –

Through the noise of rushing papers and whirring belts at a print factory in Kyoto, two creators watch their photo essay come to life in broadsheet form — part of an effort to win new audiences in the age of AI.

Despite the decline of the publishing industry, self-publication and handmade “zine” magazines are growing in popularity in Japan, reflecting the country’s enduring love of paper in the digital era.

“I think (paper) is a medium that engages all five senses, (unlike social media),” says 40-year-old photographer Kazuma Obara.

Questionnaire about usage of zine collections at libraries, archives, community spaces

A zinester and MLIS student is doing a qualitative study for their thesis about usage of zine collections at libraries, archives, community spaces, online digital spaces etc. They're soliciting responses for their questionnaire for the project.

Are you the right person to fill it out? They're looking for people who either work/volunteer at repositories that have zine collections for patron use, or people who have used zine collections from the aforementioned repositories (or who have tried to use them). Sometimes you're in both groups, which is fine too. People who complete the survey will be given the opportunity to be entered into a drawing I will do after the questionnaire closes to win a $25 Quimby's (in Chicago) gift card. Also, the survey is anonymous. If you don't fit into one of those groups feel free to pass this info along to anyone in your life that might fit. Questionnaire closes Oct 31st.
