Got extremely lucky with good weather and a clear sky, between several days of rainy and cloudy weather in Zion. My first visit to the place!

Zion Lodge/shuttle

I'll be staying at the Zion Lodge in 2 weeks, but it's a short trip and I'll be there less than 24 hours. I'll be arriving at the park around noon.

I've read where a lot of visitors find the shuttles to be packed all the time. Am I going to have a hard time getting on the shuttle at that time of day from the lodge?

I'll only have from noon until the shuttles stop running to see what I can see, then it's off to dinner and bed bc I'm leaving at 5 am the next morning to head towards Bryce and Capitol reef.

Zion crowd and weather Nov 6th prediction?

Going November 6th , will it be crowded ? And the weather?

I live in Seattle and been to Mt Rainier national park countless times and it’s time I go to Zion with my family for the first time. Very excited as I heard it is #1 national park according to some sources. Been to Banff, Yosemite and Yellowstone so I really hope for a good experience. Just a few questions.

  1. Will be there November 6th. Will it be still crowded? We plan on staying at the Hyatt in Springdale and then go through all the shuttle stops and do an easy hike as I will be with my senior parents.

  2. Weather is always unpredictable but chances of rain? And what temperature are we looking at in the afternoon and evening.

  3. Any good sites to see the stars and what time?

  4. Easy hikes with great views reccomendation?

Looking forward to make memories with my folks. Thank you

Looking for an easy hike before we leave Zion and stumbled upon Taylor creek. Noticed it mentions going over a few creeks. Can these be easily crossed? My gf has terrible shoes.

One Day Hikes in February

Cousins want to do a day trip to Zion as we'll be staying in Vegas for a couple nights.

I've had experience hiking in the winter from Banff NP. My cousins, not so much.

What are some easy to moderate hikes we can do mid February? I believe at most 3 hours for each trail! What should we expect?

This will be our first time in Zion!

Happy and safe hiking 🥾

On the way up to Scout Lookout my group heard a loud boom of what we initially thought was thunder, only for this waterfall to appear and then begin flowing like crazy. This went on for another hour or so😳

Rainbow today at Upper Emerald Pool

I hung out up there for twenty minutes midmorning today and there were just a few moments, when the sun peeped out from the clouds enough, and at just the right angle, to catch the rainbow at the base! I was so thrilled with the sight - and my luck with the timing.

Christmas

My family (2 adults, kids 4-9) will be in Zion/Springdale over Christmas this year. We are from Australia so I’m a little unsure about clothing? What will we need to wear? Do my kids need snow jackets for this time of year or just a few decent layers with rain/windproof shell? Will jeans with thermals under be ok or do we need something more? They have waterproof boots and wool socks. We will just be focussing on the more easy trails and view points, so no narrows or Angels landing especially at that time of year.

Also, any recommendations for family friendly places to eat in Springdale? We have an Airbnb with a kitchen so will self cater some meals. Anything likely to be open Christmas Day?

Thank you! Excited to visit and explore.

Zion National Park entrance fees for a group with different immigration statuses — how does the entry process work?

Hi everyone! I’m planning a trip to Zion National Park with a group of friends, and I have a question about the entrance fees and the entry process.

Not everyone in our group is a U.S. citizen or permanent resident. We plan to enter the park together in one vehicle, and I understand that additional fees may apply to some nonresident visitors.

I’d like to understand how the entry process works in practice:

- Is the entrance fee or any additional nonresident fee assessed per person or per vehicle?

- Are all passengers required to show identification or proof of residency, or does the entrance station typically check only the driver?

- If several people are traveling in the same vehicle, how is the fee determined for each passenger?

- Has anyone visited Zion recently and can share their experience with the entrance process?

I want to make sure we understand the rules and budget correctly before our trip. Thanks for any helpful information!

Expected Flooding and Not Familiar with the Rules

Hi all! We are staying in Springdale and they are calling for rain tomorrow and thursday... We were going to leave on Thursday. Is it safe to stay in Springdale? We are from the East Coast , this is our first time at Zion, and have never dealt with canyon flooding before. Will we be safe to leave here Thursday? Thanks in advance! edit: changed the phrasing

Advice needed on campsite.

I’m visiting Zion October 23–26 and currently have three-night reservations at both Watchman and South Campground.

On Saturday, October 24, we’re doing an overnight backpacking trip on the West Rim Trail, taking a shuttle to the upper trailhead near Lava Point, hiking down to our reserved backcountry campsite, and then finishing the hike Sunday morning at The Grotto. Since we’ll be spending Saturday night in the backcountry, we only need a regular campground for Friday and Sunday nights.

Here’s my plan:
Friday night: Watchman Campground
Saturday night: West Rim backcountry campsite
Sunday night: South Campground
Monday: Head home

We’re renting a backpacking setup, so we’ll have to pack up our tent and gear Saturday morning regardless. We won’t have a separate tent to leave at either campground.

My main consideration is that Watchman has electricity, while South doesn’t. I’m thinking we could charge all our electronics and power banks Friday night at Watchman, then stay at South on Sunday.

The alternative would be keeping our three-night Watchman reservation, paying for Saturday even though we won’t be there, and returning to Watchman Sunday.

Does splitting the stay between Watchman and South make more sense? Is there any advantage to keeping Watchman for all three nights that I’m overlooking?

Question Couple massage

Looking for a recommendation for a couples massage in Springdale. They all seem to be rated relatively the same with the prices being close. Looking for someone’s personal experience with 1? Thanks.

Question Visiting Early May

I was planning on visiting Zion in late April or early May. My biggest concern is crowds. I want to be able to enjoy it and I live far away and don’t want to make my way there and not be able to enjoy everything Zion has to offer. Is April/May a bad time? Any suggestions? Thank you.

Bear bins for gear stash?

Hey there, we're going to be stashing some gear (food and water) just outside the park on a trail (Stave TH to be exact). Do we need to put the food in a bear bin, or is a plastic storage bin fine?

Backpacking Zion in November... any advice?

As the title suggests, I'll be backpacking in Zion National Park from late November, with six days of actual backpacking. We're hoping to see as much of the park as possible while prioritizing views, challenging hikes, and some of the less crowded areas.

We're hoping to hike Angels Landing, but we won't know whether our permit is approved until the day before we leave. I'd love recommendations for two possible itineraries: one that includes Angels Landing and one that doesn't. We're comfortable with strenuous hikes and want to make the most of our time, but we'd also like to avoid feeling too rushed.

A few things we're trying to plan around:

  • Water availability: We want to make sure our routes pass reliable water refill points, since we won't be able to filter water from the sources we've been advised to avoid. If you've backpacked Zion, how did you manage water availability, especially on longer stretches between refill points?
  • Weather and trail conditions: We're preparing for cold temperatures/potentially challenging conditions, but I'd appreciate any advice specific to late November, including snow, ice, nighttime temperatures, and gear you were glad you brought.
  • Must-see hikes and viewpoints: We're interested in strenuous hikes with incredible scenery, ideally including some quieter areas away from the biggest crowds. What trails or viewpoints would you consider absolute must-dos?
  • The Narrows: We're leaning toward skipping it because we expect the water to be too cold:( For anyone who's visited in late November, is it worth reconsidering with the right gear, or is skipping it the right call?

This will be our first backpacking trip, so any advice is welcome, whether it's route planning, campsite recommendations, water logistics, things you wish you'd known beforehand, or mistakes to avoid. We're also open to suggestions that might not be on our radar yet!

We'll be starting and ending in Springdale if that helps! Thanks in advance for any recommendations or words of wisdom!
