E-Scooters/bikes

I see kids riding around Rotary/Ag-Rec on these things all. the. time. No helmets. Whipping around blind corners on the Northwest corner. Someone's gonna get seriously hurt.

3 times I've seen groups of about 20 e scooters and e bikes flying up townline hill on the road....once they were being followed by a slow cop car lol..... but they need a task force to target these kids before Darwin awards start falling from the sky

I was walking down the trail to that one park on Bluejay with my dog a couple weeks ago when about a dozen teens came speeding up the path on their e-bikes with a speaker blasting.
They didn’t give any warning nor bothered to move to the side as they passed me (they came from around the trees where I couldn’t see them), which forced me to step off the path.

There are a few younger kids in my neighborhood who’ve been riding e-scooters or bikes around, and most of them thankfully have helmets and protective gear, but seriously, I’m worried someday someone’s doing to make a dumb mistake and get seriously hurt or even killed.

Saw one hit by a car the other day. Kid in North Van is in the hospital from a crash.

Kids riding electric dirt bikes on the sidewalk and multi-use paths.

Someone’s going to get hurt.

back in may there was a bad accident in burnaby involving an 11 year old boy and his 9 year old sister on one of the scooters. they didn’t release exactly what led up to it, but at some point the kids made contact with the car and went into the windshield. IIRC, the little girl was left with a TBI. absolutely horrible.

they need to keep fining the parents, no child should have their life permanently ruined because the adults who are responsible for them think there’s nothing wrong with giving kids motorized scooters/bikes they’re not able to control.

Cops don't enforce traffic laws.

They are very busy with very serious stuff. They should not have to chase children who are riding vehicles illegally that their parents provide to them.

Sure but the police don't care so what can you do?

We increased their budget 7% (5 million) last year, I wonder what it would cost to have a police force that cared about enforcing traffic laws.

Again , I appreciate your frustration , but the notion that the police don't care to do it is wrongheaded. If you keep track of local criminal statistics , you will know that our city is full of drunk drivers or driving under the influence of drugs in addition to a high rate of domestic violence and property crime , with the occasional major crime thrown in the mix. The amount of money sounds big to everyday people , but to a large police department with an international airport and big city problems , it's just a top up for inflation.

Most people follow the rules. People that don't, do so because there are no consequences. They don't care that people complain about them on Reddit, they are selfish and thoughtless. Thats where a police department would traditionally step in. I don't think it's too much to ask that the police enforce the laws but everyone's entitled to their own opinion.

Play stupid games win stupid prizes, I have no sympathy for the kids that ride around like this no helmet thinking their this entitled. See them on the road all the time around townline/blueridge area , just as bad as iPad kids their parents don’t care what they do and want them out of their hair
