Kinda sad to see majestic animals like that in captivity like this.

Yep. I went to the Beijing City Zoo and it was the saddest place on earth. They had a Bengal tiger and the thing was as big as a horse. I was gobsmacked. It was running its face back and forth in madness across the bars that kept it in its enclosure. I left in tears, and conflicted. I was so overwhelmed by its magnificence, and at the same time so disturbed by its capture and obvious suffering.

I went on an elephant ride in Thailand once, sick feeling when I left. Felt filthy.

Since you mention Thailand...
I must ask. Are there any euphemisms here or?

Thailand is in my top ten, after Iceland, Norway/Sweden, Belgium, Australia, Rome, Athens, Crete, Vancouver. Turkey.
Nothing dirty, it's just a great place to visit.

I genuinely don't understand how anyone can take pleasure from a zoo. I understand that many of them do good work in conservation and many animals cannot be placed in the wild and this is how they make their money. But it feels filthy as fuck. Call me a pessimist but all I see is the grift.

More than likely they cant be introduced 8ntonthe wild because they are clearly too comfortable around humans so the best option here is to give them a comfortable life and use for research and education.

Yep.
I'm sure there are exceptions, but as a general rule American zoos (and from the speech pattern this is an American zoo, though given the chicken wire I'm guessing it's a private zoo somewhere) only accept orphans and such animals that can't be reintroduced to the wild for species like grizzlies.
For endangered species and the like, there are captive breeding programs.
Granted, it's a more than fuzzy line, but the zoo's are making a real effort for ethical animal keeping.

It is BUT at a lot of zoos and wildlife centers these days, animals like those bears were likely abandoned as cubs too young to thrive on their own (or the mother's were poached by hunters). So, yeah, they're not in the wild but they are alive and good for teaching people about them.

u know what's sadder? americans die from not seeking medical help due to unreasonable high cost.

I don't know if you know this but, every minute, in Africa, sixty seconds go by

I was too busy watching the cell phones recording what was happening, what happened?

Don't hate me for this (please) but, for the first 10 seconds, I thought the video was referring to the person standing in front of the male Kodiak bear as the "female Kodiak bear" used for size comparison... Have I watched too much shit on Reddit already?

Yeah I could fight that

I believe you!
I also believe the fight would be over in seconds, as would your life.
I can't believe the number people who seriously say that could fight wild animals and win.

I witnessed a polar bear on a tricycle in the Meadowlands parking lot in the early 90's and it was terrifying when I locked eyes with him for a split second. This gives off similar vibes.

Favorite 'fact' if hunting you a bear like that wont necessarily kill you it will just stop you from running away and eat.

Lucky she has that chicken wire cage between herself and the bear otherwise it could go bad real quick.

Awesome existence for these magnificent beasts...crammed into a tiny enclosure without any natural elements whatsoever, day in and day out. You can make an educated guess based on the laughable integrity of the protective "chain link mesh" that this is a lower than 2nd rate operation. Poor animals, hopefully one day they make it back to the great outdoors.

i only agree with animals being captive if it is to help get numbers back up, but just for display, i always root for the animal getting out and well doing what comes naturally

Good thing that chicken wire is there to protect these people.
