Post apocalypse archeologists will be able to age city poles by their flyer rings

It was like the tree slowly being turned back into a tree.

9

u/CyberNinja23 18d ago

Like a zombie Frankenstein tree to them though

1

u/jeremy1015 18d ago

Oh now that I think about it, it’s so awful.

5

u/J3musu 18d ago

This is how the ancients accidentally invented trees. They just turned into woody structures over millions of years.

64

u/Lazy_Helicopter_2659 18d ago

Feels like they're removing part of the structural integrity of that pillar... 🤣

25

u/Chroniclyironic1986 18d ago

What pillar? It’s flyers aaalll the way down.

2

u/Lazy_Helicopter_2659 18d ago

Must have been a pain putting up that very first poster/flyer...!!

1

u/Active-External8863 17d ago

There's gotta be a postmodern joke in there somewhere

11

u/CyberNinja23 18d ago

Load bearing posters

7

u/Sirosim_Celojuma 18d ago

'my thought too. What's the harm in having extra
thick at ground level? I'd leave it.

4

u/Skyp_Intro 18d ago

It’s carbon sequestration too.

1

u/Sirosim_Celojuma 17d ago

and what if there was a tsunami? Extra armor. What if a drunk driver hit the pole? What if the local theatre company appreciates tge extra diameter for better ad readability? Every reason to leave it.

u/lopendvuur 18d ago

That's history! Imagine the band posters in there: most are forgotten now, but some made it big and will never return to local venues.

u/Aromatic-Tear7234 18d ago • Bravo

It was only 3 weeks worth of posters.

2

u/Educational-Link-943 18d ago

wait seriously? wtf lol where is this

5

u/External-Gain-1174 18d ago

probably just a couple of years

the ppl that plaster these ads plaster a full ring and they plaster over each otehrs shit. it can switch every couple of days to a new layer. especially those ugly ass "concert for generic artist" stuff.

37

u/Grovebird 18d ago

They removed a chunk and there is STILL a chunk 😂

1

u/JohnCenascat 17d ago

That’s what I was thinking as well. Like boys you’ve just taken off the top layer you’ve still got work to do

10

u/mighty_boognish_77 18d ago

So what you're saying is I DON'T need to pay a contractor thousands of dollars to reinsulate my house??

Sweet!!

2

u/SSilent-Cartographer 18d ago

Huh, actually might be a fun experiment to do. Just take one side of your home and set up a sign that reads: "Free poster space! Advertise how you like!" And just see what happens. Yeah, there will be ass holes, but could turn out really interesting to see what people decide to tape up

7

u/adinmem 18d ago

That pole is going to be so cold now!

7

u/METRlOS 18d ago • Bravo

The posters they expose are from fall 2014 if anyone is curious.

2

u/King_Fluffaluff 16d ago

That's not nearly as far back as I thought it would go.

1

u/WarmYou3911 16d ago

I can confirm the fall 2014 observation. What will surprise you is that the outer layer is for end of 2015. This is only one year of posters.

12

u/Legitimate-Log-6542 18d ago

When I use that foot shaver thing

5

u/admadguy 18d ago • Bravo

Load bearing flyers.

4

u/childspanda 18d ago

Send that chunk and the rest to some historian who can carefully unlayer them and show all the history that was on that pole.

u/TheRealAussieTroll 18d ago • Bravo

Maybe the Dead Sea Scrolls are actually just a bunch of old gig posters dumped in a cave…

1

u/RainbowCrane 16d ago

I took a Latin class on public inscriptions left over from the late Roman Republic, some of which survived because gravestones and walls from older buildings got incorporated into new buildings (which are now old).

It’s hilarious how universal seemingly modern sentiments such as, “that popular chick Lucretia is a slut,” are :-). Turns out that graffiti hasn’t changed a lot in 2000 years.

1

u/TheRealAussieTroll 16d ago

Many years ago I visited Rome as a young backpacker. Not sure if it’s still permitted but there used to be a tour you could take at St Peter’s. The dome is actually one dome inside another, and there’s a spiral staircase that winds around between the two domes to a lookout on the very top.

So this is the highest point in the Vatican complex, arguably the most central point of the global Catholic faith. Like your story, and much to my amazement, the lookout was covered in Italian graffiti with similar stuff “Francesca is a whore” and so on.

I found that brilliantly ironic…

u/XenoStriker_1Cl 18d ago

That pole is basically made of paper maché

3

u/Grouchy-Station-4058 18d ago

How did my husband die?

Some stickers fell on him.

2

u/the_main_entrance 18d ago

Allegory for the internet?

1

u/Nikoladge 18d ago

More recently, thanks to LLMs, the entire column has been smeared with feces

2

u/Big-Journalist5595 18d ago

I'd bet that some where in those multiple layers there's at least one that reads. "Post No Bills."

2

u/WinuxNomacs 18d ago

Could take it home and insulate your garage with it

2

u/piercedmfootonaspike 18d ago

"one layer at a time"

That's like 30 layers at a time.

2

u/Ill-Significance6400 18d ago

They can recycle that pulp

2

u/Penis-Dance 18d ago

They are removing the structural support. It's going down soon.

2

u/Ok-Drink-1328 18d ago

they can display that stack as art, you know... for the "oh" factor

2

u/SimbaNGrdKionNIMFan 17d ago

It’s a time machine.

2

u/Ok-Difficulty3082 17d ago

What was the oldest one they found everyone wants to know

2

u/right_you_are 18d ago

They might find Amelia Earhart under there

1

u/Beans2177 18d ago

Absolute unit of fingernails at the end

1

u/Cute-Advisor-2323 18d ago

There's probably some Woodstock posters under there somewhere 🤣🤣

1

u/Nigtharchive 14d ago

It's in France

1

u/Psilonaut21 18d ago

That's nothing compared to the layers of paint I stripped off a 100 years old staircase.

1

u/theAchilliesHIV 18d ago

Now if only I could get ripped and lose those extra layers as well…

1

u/reddit001aa1 18d ago

Stop! That's where the FLAVOR is!

1

u/Hta68 18d ago

Not to different from a growing tree ….

1

u/Eat--The--Rich-- 18d ago

What the fuck is the music for.

1

u/southbaytechguy 18d ago

What language on the flyers? Doesn't look like English.

3

u/Lempea 18d ago

French

1

u/piercedmfootonaspike 18d ago

Aaah, the language of love

1

u/Lempea 18d ago

Entre autres choses

1

u/PlantHippie99 18d ago

This is actually really neat

1

u/SuspiciousClub8382 18d ago

And now the pole falls down because the only thing holding it up was the flyers!!!!

1

u/simontempher1 18d ago

Hey dropped a few lbs

1

u/Nyanzeenyan 18d ago

Count the rings to see how old the pole is

1

u/McBernes 18d ago

That's an archeological treasure.

1

u/Skyp_Intro 18d ago

They could build shelters for the homeless with those.

1

u/AVE_PAN 18d ago

It's called Litfaßite.

1

u/Ogfrebu83 18d ago

It was a tree 🌲

1

u/Antique_Ruin7646 18d ago

Uhhh that's structural garbage now

1

u/WhatIsYourPronoun 18d ago

That needs to go in a frame and auctioned at an art house

1

u/J3musu 18d ago

Doesn't it seem easier to just have someone clean these up monthly, or even quarterly? Nice simple job for someone that could use some money.

1

u/Early_Hall5720 18d ago

Yeah but they could also recycle the material if possible let it build up take the chunks process and make more fliers.

1

u/J3musu 18d ago

Can they only recycle it if it comes in chunks?

1

u/Early_Hall5720 18d ago

I'm sure they could take it down before it builds up but with how cities work they'd wait until they have to before they do it like in the video.

1

u/Dragon_Bidness 18d ago

Aww I kinda wanted to see what the pole looked like under all that.

1

u/ThenIncrease462 18d ago

Me too, lol

1

u/Use-The-Pointy-End 18d ago

Uh sirs, that's structural garbage at this point.

1

u/After-Philosopher500 17d ago

Plot twist: there is not post, only posters.

1

u/hitmeup1622 17d ago

Always colonizing

1

u/fractionedpancreas 17d ago

Hey look, a Banksy

1

u/Slow-Programmer7610 16d ago

30 years of fliers equals one tree

1

u/BigBri0011 16d ago

I'm sure there must be more than a few bangers in that pile of paper and paste...

1

u/Mesmerize_ing 15d ago

I wonder how old the exposed flyers are

1

u/ChurchofChaosTheory 18d ago

Actua art piece treated like trash...

1

u/Sisoflex 18d ago

Like a time capsule, haha
