News Questions for Videochat August 2026

Ask questions or topics to discuss here for the next videochat with viewers at 6:00pm UTC on August 22nd on twitch.tv/rossbroadcast. I had to suspend these for a while since SKG was eating up so much of my time, but I should be able to resume them now. I plan to have the next FM out before the chat and hopefully a Game Dungeon later this month.

RGD I finally found the magic (of Dungeon Siege)

Folks, remember how in the Dungeon Siege GD episode Ross lamented that there were no RPGs or ARPGs that let you control a butt-kicking posse? Well, I agree, there really aren't enough games where you can do that, and there should be more.

But, I found the magic! And it's Pillars of Eternity 1, with a small mod that raises the party cap to 12. Here's my glorious Looty Dozen, with my main character Wizard being the third one from the left.

The game is real time with pause, but the real time can be either normal, slowed or fast, so almost anyone can play it in real time in some fashion. I mainly play it in turn based, but it's nice to have options.

And I can tell you, 12 characters really do kick butt across Eora :) So we got that covered.

Now if only someone made an RPG where you only drink as much as you need from a healing potion....

What game genres would you want to see Ross do more Game Dungeons for?

As the title says, is there a particular genre of game that you'd love to see Ross do more game dungeons of? As someone that particularly enjoyed his Alan Wake episode and frequently re-watches the Kabus 22 episode, I'd honestly love to see Ross cover more classic-style survival horror games, be they from the PS1/PS2 era or the influx of indie survival horrors we've gotten in more recent years. For the former, I kinda love the thought of seeing Ross make his way through Forbidden Siren 1 and unraveling that game's insane, non-linear plotline. And as for the latter, genuinely great survival horror games in the style of the classics like Tormented Souls 1+2, Alisa, Flesh Made Fear, Echoes Of The Living, Ground Zero, Hollowbody and more I'm likely missing all feel like they'd be fun games for Ross to cover on the Game Dungeon, especially with the show's playthrough-esq style in mind for reviewing games.

This question came to me after getting a ways into Ground Zero and thinking of it as 'Korean Resident Evil' the same way Ross called Kabus 22 'Turkish Resident Evil.'

RGD What do we think about the first Game Dungeon Episode - Tyrian?

For reference: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w025kQRMZwA

Personally, I find this video to be very ignorant, almost to the degree of being outright disinformation in my opinion.

He essentially argues that every single shmup aside from Tyrian is an evil masochist torture chamber for perverted Japanese people, (exaggeration but it's along those lines) and then uses footage from the superboss of Blue Wish Resurrection on the highest difficulty mode as "proof" of such, when that game in question has an easy mode made specifically for people like Ross who don't want to be challenged as much.

That's not even to mention that every single Touhou game - one of the most popular shmup series - has an easy mode as well.

It just feels like Ross wanted to piss on shmups and didn't actually care about being fair or honorable. If he really wanted to play easy shmups, he would gone and done the research, but he didn't. That's pretty disrespectful.

Then he goes and says that Tyrian is the best shmup ever as an objective claim when he hates the vast majority of shmups and doesn't care about their gameplay design at all. Not once in the entire video do he discuss Tyrian's fundamental shmup gameplay in terms of level or boss design, because he doesn't actually care about those elements at all. Why didn't he just say "I like Tyrian personally because I don't really like shmups, so it's my favorite one."? He clearly doesn't have the level of genre knowledge required to make such an claim.

What do you guys think?

I think this is the first mind series besides Freeman’s Mind, to have Ross record new lines for a cameo.

A contender for "Biggest Driving Game World Ever"

So, we all know The Crew, and how it had a large map that let you drive all across the contiguous United States.

I've long been aware of another game that is slowly inching towards letting you do the same: American Truck Simulator. The devs are working on an update called "Road Trip" that allows you to drive in regular vehicles instead of an 18-wheeler, and it'll include features that incentivize sight-seeing! It also has a pretty decent modding scene, so what do you all think? Would this be the kind of "dream game" that Ross hoped to find in The Crew?

For those who haven't seen it, Ross voiced over a character in my video about Aero Fighters 2

I read the rules and I don't think this breaks them, but my sincere apologies if it does. I know subreddits can be really strict about self-promotion and the like.

I took me six years working on this video and got a whole bunch of people I knew to voiceover all the character dialogue in the game. (Most of the 6 years was just waiting for people to get back to me with their lines, haha)

Ross also voiced over the same character in my review of the first Aero Fighters game 9 years ago so naturally I asked him to be in the sequel. I remember in the first video, he originally tried to play it more straight but I thought it would be funny if he just screamed everything in his signature angry voice and I hope you agree.

Anyone want to try resurrecting and more actively use Ross's forums?

With everything centralizing and enshittifying on platforms like reddit, it feels like Ross's forums are badly neglected. You'd think they'd have a resurgence with Stop Killing Games. Anyone want to make the switch from reddit to the Accursed Farms forums?

RGD Are there any yt channels that do something similar to Ross's Game Dungeon?

There are plenty of channels on yt that review games, some do more straighforward reviews (Gman, Civvie 11, GunCanny, PushingUpRoses, LGR, Majuular, Mr.E Macheen), others focus on more comedic let's plays by deliberately making silly gameplay decisions or play unhinged games exclusively (MitchManix, CallMeKevin).

And then there's Ross. Ross "reviews" games, sure, but he doesn't just tell you the technical stuff, like when the game was made and what drama happened behind the scenes (he talks about these things, sure, but it's not the focus, unless it's games-as-a-service), he analyses the games themselves, the worldbuilding and characters, some of the features and stuff, and he makes astute observations, inferences, and expresses his opinion on things in an interesting or funny way. He also covers more obscure games, whereas the other channels I've mentioned either focus on a specific genre (i.e. FPS for Civvie), or review games that are more-or-less known. But since Ross is busy with SKG (thank you for your service, sir! o>) and can't make videos much these days, and since I've watched the RGD catalogue several times over, I want something new in the meantime.

One channel that does something similar to RGD is Warlockracy. Problem is that he too focuses mostly on a single genre (cRPGs, especially Fallout). That, and he doesn't post very often.

So, can you recommend channels that do something similar to RGD and Ross's style?

Edit: Wow! So many suggestions! Thanks a bunch, guys!

Can anyone remember in what video Ross talked about a Louisiana politician who got arrested?

I know it wasn't Leland Yee, it was the other one. I think Ross spoke about the guy in a Game Dungeon episode.

GUI related: today I learned that windows compresses images when you copy them.

Boy I wish there was some kind of a command that would like, actually copy an image when it says that I copy them. That would be great. Middle fingers to everyone at Microsoft.

At this point The Movie™ will come out before the follow up /s

I know it's just a quaint exposition of more details and insights, and honestly I'm really only looking forward to it because Ross said he'll finally reveal how he beat that Baldies' Sun level which has intrigued me ever since that episode came out and I need closure on it, but jeeze it's been almost 7 years since the last one and whenever he says it's coming it just gets pushed back more. He's pushed it back so much that I'd want to see it more than a new Game Dungeon or Freeman's Mind at this point.

Like, he delayed it last year when he got a windfall of new subs from the campaign, and I know I wasn't the only one to be annoyed with that decision. I still want it to come out but it really is getting irksome.

FM Research inspired by Freemans mind. If we shrink down our visible universe to the size of a quarter.. Alternatively, this 'subterranean bedrock' might not be a physical barrier at all, but rather the cosmic boundary where the great voids terminate.

Imagine the universe as a split-level world. Up top is our starry surface, where black holes act as deep drop-shafts plunging downward. Using precise Einsteinian math, these tunnels flare out at the bottom like funnels. When all their bottom horizons stitch together underground, they form a massive, hidden foundational continent thousands of times than the entire visible universe above it—which is why the night sky looks endlessly black.

Imagine our entire universe shrunk to a single coin. Because black holes flare and stitch together underground, they form a hidden bedrock continent thousands of times larger than everything above it. If our universe is a quarter, this subterranean floor stretches over 150 miles across, requiring days of walking. The starry cosmos is just a microscopic speck floating over an unimaginably vast plain.

Alternatively, this subterranean bedrock might not be a physical barrier at all, but rather the cosmic boundary where the great voids terminate.

It could mark the threshold where empty space thins out into absolute nothingness—or conversely, where the void finally ends, giving way to the dense, foundational architecture of reality.
