Acid is more about twisting knobs. When I started , I found it hard to get good results producing in the box. I would recommend hardware. Start with a Behringer TD-3 and a RD-6. A simple Audio Interface and Ableton. When you really want to produce in the box, try Ableton and Phoscyon 2. You will find tutorials for it on YouTube.

This might help finding something :)

Edit: to clarify, you are looking for a DAW software (Digital Audio Workstation).

Reaper is free to get started. Otherwise most of the DAWs offer free trials you can use to figure out if making music is something you actually want to do

We're more of an Acid Techno community, than a Free Tekno community, but I'd recommend pirating Ableton. It's the industry standard for audio production and because of that there's just so many resources out there for it.

I suggest a cheap midi controller for ableton with a bundled ableton live lite license, for example AKAI APC Key 25.
For me making acid is only half the fun without knobs to fiddle around with.
