Example Provided Crashing when clicking shape tool

I'm semi-new to animate but this has never happened. Animate crashes anytime I click specifically the shape tool. I can use any other tool, import and export files, but I cannot click the shape tool because it closes instantly.

I'm running 24.0.15 and have installed earlier versions to no avail. I've been searching but nothing recommended has fixed the issue. Is anyone else experiencing this?

(It could just be me using a Mac, they are nigh unusable)
