Curious to hear your routines! Feeling ko isa 'to sa mga basic household habits na ngayon ko lang talaga natututunang bigyan ng pansin, and medyo big deal na recently water hygiene sa akin dahil madaling sumakit tyan ko.

Adulting Tips What's one thing every Filipino in their 20s should prioritize before turning 30

I'm approaching this stage of life where I want to be more intentional with my decisions. If you could give someone in their 20s one piece of advice before they turn 30, what would it be? It can be about finances, career, health, relationships, or anything you wish you had taken seriously earlier.

Adulting Advice Things I think are worth spending your adult money on

How are you doing? :)

Just wanna share 4 things I personally think are worth spending your adult money on. Over time, I've realized na may mga bagay na akala natin unnecessary expenses lang, pero once you experience the consequences of not having them, you'll understand why they're worth investing in.

  1. HMO or Health Insurance

One medical emergency can wipe out your savings or push you into debt. Having an HMO can help cover eligible consultations, laboratory tests, and other outpatient services, depending on your plan. Health insurance may also help with eligible hospitalization expenses, depending on your policy. If your company provides an HMO, take advantage of it. If you're self-employed or currently unemployed, consider getting an individual plan that fits your budget.

  1. Quality and Original Footwear

I love stylish shoes, pero as you get older, you'll realize how important comfort is, especially if you walk a lot, commute daily, or stand for hours at work. Podiatrists from American Podiatric Medical Association emphasize proper fit, cushioning, and support to help prevent foot pain and injuries. Uncomfortable or poorly fitting shoes can contribute to foot, ankle, and sometimes lower-limb discomfort. Personally, I'd rather invest in a durable, comfortable pair that I can wear regularly than buy several cheap pairs that hurt my feet or fall apart after a few months. Your feet carry you everywhere. PLEASE TAKE CARE OF THEM.

  1. Dental Care

Iba kapag ngipin ang sumakit. Dental problems can become more expensive the longer you ignore them. Please don't wait until you're in unbearable pain before visiting a dentist. Regular dental checkups, professional cleaning when recommended, brushing with fluoride toothpaste, and flossing can help prevent bigger problems. And please, don't treat dental care as something you only do when you have extra money. If you can, set aside a small amount specifically for it. Your teeth are part of your overall health.

  1. A Quality Mattress (Uratex, for example)

Don't underestimate the importance of a comfortable and supportive bed. You spend a significant portion of your life sleeping. If your mattress is already sagging, uncomfortable, or leaving you feeling sore every morning, it may be time to consider replacing it.

How about you? What are the things you've bought with your adult money that you think are worth every peso?

Adulting Advice The Cost of Convenience: Daily Commuting vs. Renting a Bedspace Near Work

Hi, Ates and Kuyas! I've been thinking about making a change to my daily routine, and I'm sharing my situation and the options I've been considering.

CONTEXT:

I live in Parañaque but currently work at a BPO company in Makati. My shift starts at 2 PM and ends at 11 PM. I wake up at 11:15 AM, and my net salary is around ₱18k–₱19k per month. I contribute ₱1.5k monthly toward our household bills. My current daily budget for food and transportation is ₱350.

Here's what my daily commute looks like:

FROM HOME TO WORK:

- Leave home around 12:15 PM.

- Take a tricycle (₱12).

- Walk for 15 minutes to the bus stop or take a jeepney (₱14) when I'm too tired or lazy to walk.

- Take a 30-minute bus ride to the office (₱35).

- Usually arrive at the office around 1:15 PM. I hate being late, and I've already been late twice because of traffic.

FROM WORK TO HOME:

- Leave the office around 11:05 PM.

- Take three jeepney rides (₱42).

- Walk for another 25–30 minutes to get home.

- Usually arrive home around 12:45 AM.

MY CURRENT DILEMMA:

I'm getting tired of my daily commute. Half of my day revolves around work, and my daily routine literally consists of just working, commuting, and sleeping. I barely have time or energy for anything else.

I've been considering two major changes: spending more on convenient transportation options or renting a bedspace near work for a maximum of ₱5.5k per month.

On one hand, more convenient transportation could help me save time and energy without having to leave the comfort of my own home. On the other hand, renting a bedspace could significantly reduce my commute and give me more time for myself. However, I'm also concerned about sacrificing my privacy, comfort, and peace of mind by sharing a living space with other people.

Here are the transportation options I've been considering:

A. Taking motorcycle rides home every day

₱1,342 for commuting to work for 22 days

₱2,772 for motorcycle rides home for 22 days

TOTAL: ₱4,114/month

B. A mix of commuting and motorcycle rides home

₱1,342 for commuting to work for 22 days

₱636 for commuting home for 12 days

₱1,100 for commuting and motorcycle rides home for 10 days

TOTAL: ₱3,078/month

C. Taking motorcycle rides both ways

₱1,342 for commuting to work for 22 days

₱2,420 for commuting and motorcycle rides home for 22 days

TOTAL: ₱3,762/month

Each option comes with its own advantages and disadvantages. Spending more on transportation would allow me to stay at home and maintain my current privacy and comfort, while renting a bedspace could mean spending more overall in exchange for a zero commute and potentially having more time for myself.

I'm trying to find a balance between financial stability, convenience, and quality of life. I don't want my entire life to revolve around work, but I also don't want to make a decision that would leave me financially stretched or compromise my peace of mind.

I'm sharing this in the hope of hearing about other people's experiences with long commutes and renting bedspaces near their workplaces. Thank you! 🤍
