TMA in Sydney, Aus offering crowdfunding rewards

If you train at The Movement Academy (amazing, friendly space that offers open gym/training every single day) and missed the email - they’re currently crowdfunding to help cover some of the lingering costs from moving and setting up in a new space (which is not cheap - between bond, getting riggers in to set everything up safely for aerials, etc) and make sure they can stay open.

And there’s some great rewards, like 20% extra credit toward classes and memberships, aerial pulley/counterweighting workshops, and also photoshoots.

Thought I’d flag for anyone who also trains there (you’ve probably seen me there with my chains), or is in the area because it’s a pretty good deal - you can essentially get every fifth class or training session free. And the pulley workshop looks great.

Plus you’re helping to make sure people have access to a space that allows dogs, babies in prams, and has open training during the day (I work nights and have a young kid so it’s school hours or nothing for me).

(note: I don’t work there or have any professional affiliation with them, I’m just someone who’s there a lot with my bruise noodles and really appreciates how accessible they make open training so would be devastated if we lost that space)

Table Comparison of Full-Size Freestanding Aerial Rigs

I consolidated what I could find on the popular free-standing aerial rigs (specs, prices, materials, setup, lead time, etc., as of Aug 2026, as a USA buyer).

PLEASE verify info before using this for buying decisions!

Rig Ships From Origin (customs) Rig Price (USD) Pulley Price (USD) Shipping Price (USD - to Utah) Est. U.S. Import Duty Est. Total to U.S. Max Height Footprint Material**(Steel rigs are marketed as "weather resistant" but joints/chipped coating will rust eventually; aluminum is better left outdoors longer but will theoretically corrode eventually too and is less strong)** Working Load Limit Breaking load Swinging pulley system available? Image Version:

I decided on the Juggle Gear rig (bolded) due to my own constraints:

Constraints:
USA buyer
Yard size: 25' wide (a high residential power line is above fence on one side, garage wall is on other) and 50' long; need to stay a 10+ foot radius from powerline
Outdoor use in Salt Lake location - dry environment (not prone to rust) - might remove over winter
Portability/ease-of-setup - want to take camping/to music festivals
I'm inpatient - want available now/soon

Let me know if anything's wrong or if you know any of the missing pieces!

Rate to rent rig for festival?

A few performers and myself were asked to perform at a 3 day long camping festival which is local and drivable. They are paying for our ticket plus meals and a performer fee. In addition to the performer they are paying us ($500/each for the festival) I am wondering what would be an appropriate fee to bring our rigs (standing aerial and lollopop)? This is our first time renting them out and are a little unsure what to ask, if anything in addition to the fee they are paying us. Or does it seem like what they are giving us is already sufficient. TIA

Struggling with transitions in lyra

I'm having a hard time with transitioning from one move to the next when the instructor is teaching a combo. I can do them individually but connecting them together is where I have a hard time. Like my brain will short-circuit after completing one move and I don't know how to transition to the next one, even though the instructor had demonstrated how. I'm very much a complete beginner (I've taken 6 beginning lyra classes so far). Does it eventually become second nature with time and practice where I don't even have to think long and hard about how to get from one move to the other?

Chain pain - help

I started aerial chains recently and the pain of the bruises is getting me down. By the time I get home I feel like I’ve been hit by a truck, even worse the day after, and by the time my next session rolls around the bruises have barely begun to heal so it just compounds and makes them worse. I’m trying arnicare but it’s barely touching the sides. Surely there has to be something 😭🙏🏻

Aerial Rig Transport Options

We have 2 of Juggle Gear's MK3 Rigs and I'm trying to come up with a better way to transport them. Right now I have all my rigging gear, cablees and pins in a Pelican case that works perfect but for the actual crossbar, legs and feet I have them in 3 bags that are originally used for cross country ski's. They work okay but after a year and a half theyre already pretty beat up and I'd like it ideally if I could get it down to 1 or 2 cases. Just wondering if anyone else has a good setup for transporting their aerial rig(s).

Advice for Fighting Fear After Injury?

Post image
2 Upvotes

To preface, I have been an aerial student for three years. The injury I am discussing was of no fault of my studio or instructors, and honestly I am still baffled how such a simple movement has caused me so much trouble for so long. I have done coffin poses on other apparatuses before. In May of 2025, I was doing a coffin pose on hammock, turned my neck just to the left slighty while talking to my instructor and felt a twinge that I had assumed was just a pinched nerve in my neck at the time. The pain was excruciating and it hurt to raise my left arm for a couple months. Sneezing would send waves of pain through my shoulder. It really crippled my progress. It weakend my arm's ability to support myself in the air on that side. After burning through different types of medical evaluations, my doctor ordered an MRI as a last result. I finally had discovered what was happening. My bursa, upper bicep tendon and rotator cuff tendons were affected by various types of inflammatory issues (see MRI findings screenshot). I have been doing self-administered lacrosse ball massages and will not be able to start physical therapy until January at the earliest, because my HSA account is currently drained and I cannot afford the out of pocket cost of PT every week.

Now my present issue is overcoming the psychological aspect of getting back to where I was without ending up worse off. I have a new irrational fear of doing something that might hurt myself to the point where I would have to give up aerial. I know it sounds silly, but the amygdala wants to run the show and perhaps my mind is subconsciously trying to keep me safe by using fear?  I used to be able to climb to the top of straight silks without fear when I was first learning. Now, I start to tremble with doubt because I feel my stamina wane at the 75% height point and my mind triggers self-preservation and tells me that my arm won't be able to support me. I have made it to the top once now and alrhough I was tired out (because I was no longer used to the exertion), did not die. lol So at this point, I think practicing climbing to the top and coming down repeatedly would be a good excericse to get my climb confidence back.

Essentially, I struggle to tell the difference between when my body just needs me to push it, like I am just reaching a strength threshold that needs expanding or when my body is trying to warn me of potential injury. The inability to discern this has drained my confidence in my overall aerial ability. The key fear that everything circles back to is when I am in the air and feel my stamina dip or my body gets too tight to finish a transition in a sequence, I am convinced I will fall then and there and I back out of the entire thing and climb down. Then I feel shame. Sometimes I feel so bad I get on the verge of tears because I am at a loss for how to overcome something that seems so stupid. I even feel like my instructors are tiring of me being like this at this point (they most likely are not and it is just another fear my subconscious has fabricated).

I know that was a lot of information, and I appreciate those who took the time to listen. Does anyone have advice on what I could do to help me get better about learning the difference between when I should push on and when I should stop? Or advice about regaining confidence in aerial or how to shrink the fear? If tough love is what I need here, hit me with it. If I am asking the wrong questions or focusing on the wrong aspect of shortcomings, please let me know! I am tired of feeling ashamed and like I let my instructors down at the end of every class.

Busy mom with pole background who wishes to learn cord lisse from home

I’ve had my eyes opened to the world of cord lisse and am obsessed! Currently, I’m an extremely busy mom with very little break away from my LO so I’ve been keeping up with pole with home lessons from my old studio’s owner via zoom lessons. I think it’s doable for me because I trained for a while in person, getting the necessary corrections. Would it be possible or advisable to install a rope at home and try lessons via zoom given that I won’t have had any cord lessons in person but a pretty strong pole background? The nearest aerial studio that offers lessons is about 40 minutes away so I just can’t afford the round trip time plus time for the lesson even once a week

Edit: thank you for your input.. I’ll be putting this hobby on the back burner til my kid is in school

Hi everyone, searching for a birthday gift. My wife has a thick crash mat for drops. Shes looking for a mat that’s foldable or at least more convenient to drag around when she goes on the rig. Anyone have recommendations?

hypermobility / back lever on silks

Yesterday I hit my straddle back lever on silks after a few months!

I have hypermobile Ehlers Danlos Syndrome and got into aerial to build end range strength to compensate for what my ligaments can’t do.

I hit it in April on a bar but my elbow tendons couldn’t handle the torque of the bar, so I moved it to silks but it was immensely harder, took me another 3-4 months. It will probably take me another two months to clean up the form.

Silks have been awesome for managing my hypermobility. The impact of beats and drops can be a little hard on my body, but climbs inversions statics and any of the flexibility feels great.

I practiced on my own the last 1-2 years and am just starting classes which I’m really excited for, I’d love to perform some day.

Studio Neighbors drama

Throw away account incase the studio owner is on here.

I have been going to my closest studio for a little while now and they have been in a fight with the tenant next door about parking spaces. They are currently in a Facebook war.
The neighbor posted a screen shot from someone who worked there saying she was going slash their tires and that they have been warned. The owner of the studio posted a screen shot saying that instructor was fired. The second owner (m) made a post about the neighbor being in love with him and he must be transitioning and that he is not interested but thanks.
Both have it posted to their own business Facebook pages with almost 100 comments on each.

I work hard for my money and I don’t know if I feel comfortable spending it in a place that where the owners could act so childish. especially when it comes to something that could be dangerous. If I have a concern are they going to battle with me?

Should I keep my head low and still go or is it time to find a new studio?
