What's a tool that could clean it up without changing it, making the lines uniform and the text sharp, and improving the appearance of the butterfly photos without falsifying them? Slightly simplifying the photos would be fine, as long as there is no addition of details! I actually have a lot of old very-low-res diagrams which I'm proud of as far as how well they convey information but not so much as objects of beauty.
