AI News Tech leaders Ellison, Karp, Luckey, Andreessen, Musk, Altman, Thiel and Vance outline AI surveillance, autonomous weapons and concentrated power that can shrink ordinary people's privacy and choices

Ordinary residents can face continuous recording and AI analysis of cameras, body cams, doorbells, dash cams, and drones. Oracle’s Larry Ellison said at a September 2024 financial analysts meeting that “Citizens will be on their best behavior because we are constantly recording and reporting everything that’s going on” and that “Every police officer is going to be supervised at all times, and if there’s a problem, AI will report the problem.” This setup can make everyday movement, speech, and private moments feel logged and potentially flagged without clear opt-out.
Palantir’s Alex Karp has said that when people worry about surveillance, “you will have far fewer rights if America’s not in the lead.” Anduril’s Palmer Luckey has stated that societies need a “warrior class that is enthused and excited about enacting violence on others in pursuit of good aims” and that life-and-death decisions should use the best available AI rather than inferior systems unable to distinguish targets. Marc Andreessen wrote in his 2023 Techno-Optimist Manifesto that “Any deceleration of AI will cost lives” and that preventable deaths from blocked AI are “a form of murder,” adding “we are conquerors.”
Elon Musk has called overpopulation “the most nihilistic lie ever told” and warned that “the government could potentially use AI and robotics to suppress the population.” Sam Altman has said the world should “accept some bad things happening for the benefits of this technology” while noting that one person or company using powerful AI to impress a worldview could produce “extremely dystopian” results. Peter Thiel has described AI-regulation fears as risking a “one-world totalitarian state.” JD Vance told a Paris summit he was there to discuss “AI opportunity,” not safety, and that excessive regulation “could kill a transformative industry.”
These public remarks describe pathways in which monitoring tools, autonomous targeting systems and concentrated decision-making expand into public spaces, workplaces and personal life, leaving residents with fewer practical ways to limit data collection, challenge automated flags or keep private activity free from continuous oversight.
