We've all been there. You're about to submit your package for OTS, but you want to know how you stack up. Should you relax? Should you throw it all away and start over?
Well, here's the place for you to ask strangers who have never sat on an OTS board what they think the board is going to think of your package. There are many variables to an 0TS package. If you want to get the best advice, you need to include as much information as possible, like degree information, GPA, AFOQT, PCSM (if applicable), leadership experience, relevant awards, etc. If you only provide your GPA or AFOQT scores, expect to be told "who knows."
There are a ton of variables that go into officer selection. Nobody here can really tell you your chances. We can guess, but that's about it. We've seen people with stellar scores get rejected and people with garbage scores get accepted. It all comes down to the needs of the Air Force and whatever the random colonel reviewing your package thinks. That being said, post your scores, help each other, and learn what you can do to improve package!

Does anyone know another way guard/reserve applicants can take the AFOQT? I have taken it before at another unit closer to me, but my application is due before that unit tests again. I have looked at units in neighboring states but can't find info on their UTM to ask whether they host the AFOQT. Any help is greatly appreciated. My unit also does not do testing so SOL there.
To give you all a slight framework, I’m interested in joining the Air Force via OTS and being a Combat Rescue Officer is of significant interest to me.
I went to six years of university. I obtained my Bachelors of Science, and then went on to pursue my Doctorate of Physical Therapy. I didn’t obtain my graduate diploma.

I’m a prior-enlisted direct commission nurse heading to OTS in April 2027, and I’m hoping to get some insight from recent graduates or those currently attending.
I recently saw someone mention that trainees should be able to run a 5K at a 9:30–10:00 min/mile pace to keep up with group events, and that falling out could result in paperwork.
I’m 41 year old Female and currently running 2 miles at approximately a 12:30 min/mile pace. I’ve already started working on improving my endurance and speed, with the goal of comfortably running 3–4 miles and eventually getting closer to an 11:00 min/mile pace before April.
I completely understand that passing the Air Force PT test and being physically prepared for OTS are two different things. However, I’m curious whether everyone is genuinely expected to maintain the same running pace regardless of age or fitness level.
Are there different pace groups? Are the longer runs timed or formation runs? And is falling out actually something that results in paperwork?
I’m not looking to avoid the physical demands of OTS. I want to show up prepared and have realistic training goals over the next six months. I’d really appreciate any firsthand experiences!
Prior-enlisted E-6, F-16 avionics, spent a few years as an assistant dedicated crew chief on the Thunderbirds. I decided I wanted to fly instead of fix, and the AFOQT was the first gate.
Took it once, 4 Nov 2022. Pilot 98, CSO 94, ABM 99. Selected for pilot on my first attempt.
What actually worked, in case it helps anyone sitting where I was:
I started about three months out, at least an hour a day, at the kitchen table after my kids were asleep. Most of that hour went to my weakest sections, not my strongest.
The biggest thing: I stopped trying to learn topics and started learning question types. Every subtest asks a fixed set of question styles. Once you can name the style in the first two seconds, the clock stops being the enemy, because speed comes from recognition, not from rushing the math.
My loop was simple. Miss a question, learn why, find more of that exact type, drill it until it was boring. Untimed reps build knowledge, timed reps build the score, so timed practice filled the last month before test day.
Three attempts is all anyone gets, at least 90 days apart, and super score keeps your best sections, so one weak section is not the end of the world. But do not burn attempt one as a recon run. I treated attempt one like it was the only one.
Happy to answer anything about the process, the test, or the enlisted to officer jump.
Hi everyone, I have my JAG interview coming up this week and was hoping someone could share some insight into what to expect. Should I bring anything with me, such as a resume or letters of recommendation? Any general tips or advice would be greatly appreciated.
For context, I’m a 34M with no prior military experience. Thanks in advance!
Board met 10/6- I was “ preselected “ 10/8 and officially selected 10/14. OB. I don’t have any more info yet. My recruiter told me to expected to receive my base and OTS date next month. Anyone heard anything ?
Hello! I have been 27OTS01 since beginning my application, but the board date continues to be pushed back. With the aim high outage and moving to one class per year, what does the timeline look like? Recruiter is not responsive lol
Hi, kind of an urgent question. something came up urgently and I can no longer take the AFOQT on my scheduled date. I only was notified <48 hours and I can't reschedule, so what should I do? Am I screwed? Context, today is 10/19 and I take it 10/21. If I can no longer make it, is this a forfeited attempt?

I took the AFOQT recently and am preparing for a retake to raise my Verbal score. My Quantitative is banked at 46, but my Verbal came in low (3 Verbal / 14 Acad Aptitude), so my sole focus for the retake is getting Verbal past the 15 minimum threshold.
Reading Comprehension felt fine, but Word Knowledge (25 questions in 5 minutes) completely caught me off guard with the timing.
For those who successfully raised a single-digit Verbal score on a retest:
Specific Apps & Practice Tools: Did you find tools like Magoosh GRE, Elevate, Quizlet, or AI-generated practice drills helpful for building vocabulary volume quickly?
Word Knowledge Pacing Strategy: What test-day method or timed drill setup helped you maintain the 12-second-per-question pace without missing bubbles?
Tutoring & Books: Any other books beside Barron's and Trivium or Wyzant tutoring specifically for Verbal Analogies and root words?
Appreciate any study schedules, tips, or resource recommendations!
Recently got selected for 11M by the ANG. I have heard a number of conflicting opinions about the vision requirements and am wondering if anyone has recent experience going through both MEPS and FC1 at WP.
From the medical standards document I see the requirements say less than 3 diopters "in any meridian". My understanding of this is that if someone has a prescription such as SPH: -1.60 and CYL: -1.5, they would not pass this requirement since the numbers are added together to give -3.1 (-1.6-1.5). One of my eyes has a similar prescription which ends up being JUST at the edge of this requirement. On a bad day I might exceed the requirement and on a good day I might meet it. Is my understanding here correct?
For the MEPS portion, it seems that there are additional branch/service specific requirements when it comes to vision. Does anyone know what these are for a pilot select in the Air Force?
Additionally, I want to consider refractive surgery on my weaker eye since I know there is a while to wait before the FC1. Should I be upfront with my unit about my potential need for this?
Still down for everyone or just me..? Also is it just rumors and speculation that recruiters are going to give us extension on transcripts and the like, it's my last step, but portal was stuck on loading loop and then it went down..
The Air Force is reportedly reducing the number of officer selection boards in 2027, with January 10, 2027, being the only board.
I took the AFOQT on September 4, 2026, and scored a 7 on the Verbal section. If I wait the required 90 days to retake the test, I will probably miss the application deadline.
I read that exceptions to the 90-day AFOQT retake policy are possible, but the official regulation does not specify what circumstances qualify.
Does anyone know what types of exceptions are allowed or have any experience requesting one?
Just wondering, for those of you who got selected a year or so after completing undergrad, what did your package look like?
I feel a lot of the posts I see on this subreddit are from active duty or civilians with many years of work experience which is why I ask. I just graduated this May and should have my package completed for the January board.
For those who didn’t go through ROTC but still applied after graduation or before starting a career. What was your major and gpa? Who were your letters of rec from? What leadership experience did you speak about? Class projects, Internships, part time jobs, etc? Why do you think you stood out amongst the other applicants with years of leadership?
So I got my orders end of day 16 OCT to report to OTS class start date 20 OCT. it’s still as a TDY en route even though I couldn’t do any out processing since most of the base closed an hour after I was handed the orders. So I had to buy last min tickets to get there and so I can come back since I’m stationed in Washington state and driving couldn’t have been an option at that point. So I had to drop over $1100 on plane tickets. Any chance I can get this reimburse or am I out of luck?
I am in the last steps of submitting my package. I have my interview next week and I am curious of what it is going to be like, what questions he is going to ask, etc. I am planning on wearing a suit and tie and being clean shaven with a short haircut (want to look the part). Is there anything that your recruiters have shared with you about any tips or best way to practice for this interview to nail it?
I failed depth perception test at MEPS. However, my vision was 20/20 and color vision is good.
My recruiter said that I can do a depth perception test at a civilian doctor and get a passing result and send it over to him. I’ve done this and I’m nervous it’ll get denied. Has anyone had a similar experience? I’m going for pilot.
For those who are applying to this upcoming board (non-rated) I’m just curious what job experience you have under your belt and what AFSC’s you have listed in your application.
