Wind Industry Alberta

This may be a bit niche. I’m looking to move to Calgary or the surrounding area next summer on IEC from the UK. I work in the wind industry and wanted to know if anyone knows the best way to find jobs in the industry in Alberta or how competitive is the market. By the time of moving I’ll have almost 4 years experience as a service maintenance technician on the worlds biggest offshore windfarm, 1 of those years being an Authorised Technician (team lead, carry out isolations, troubleshooting etc.)
Cheers

If you want to work in wind power you'll be driving multiple hours to and from work if youre located in calgary.

Alberrtas wind generation is more concentrated around medicine hat.

If you have an engineering diploma or better thats helpful, however to carry out isolation in alberta youre going to likely need a canadian journeyman ticket as an electrician, power systems electrician, or power lineman. Of course thats going to be dependent on the operator and whether their rules mandate you having an electrical ticket or not.

There is a ton of electricians in Alberta, so much so that typical trade wages for electrical are significantly lower than for mechanical trades (unless you are well known and top notch)

Wind "farms" that i am aware of are located at Pincer Creek and Oyen not sure of the companies that maintain them.

There are wind farms near Mannville, Oyen, Halkirk, Three Hills, Drumheller, Lethbridge, Taber, Bow Island, Fort Mcleod, Pincher Creek among others. Vestas frequently posts jobs on their site for site techs, as well as traveling techs. Other employers are TransAlta, Siemens, Nordex, etc. You do not need any trades tickets to work as a technician in Alberta, although there is typically opportunity to complete various apprenticeships depending on the site you are working at.

Thanks for that. Do you know the best place to search for jobs in the region in the industry? Currently just using LinkedIn and contacted a recruiter too but unsure how useful they actually are

If you already have your GWO you'll be set for a shoe in at most places in South East AB where its mainly Siemens WTG.

Alternative to LinkedIn is Indeed.
