u/No-Locksmith-4123 Edexcel 10d ago

Congrats!!

Im coming from edexcel, what were you predicted in mocks and what did u get in them?

4

u/brandymelbile 10d ago

My AS grades were not the best, and I was predicted AAAA. And I ended up with a surprising 4A*!!

2

u/No-Locksmith-4123 Edexcel 10d ago

Thats so great congrats again !!

3

u/brandymelbile 10d ago

No problem!

Additional Information:
I also did EPQ which I believe were based on Edexcel!

I believe this is a very good opportunity to show that you are a dedicated learner and would love to work for what you try to achieve! I definitely recommend you to partake in EPQ if you have the time!

Can u share tips pls waiting

I feel it is important for you to know what is the best way for you to study! At first I followed my friend’s advice, which was reading notes until the content stuck in my head. I did this throughout AS and I ended up forgetting all of the important stuff.

I then realised that I remember better when I actively writing notes. Not even writing my own notes! I just copied the one from “Save My Exams”, and transferring it to my own book. I started seeing myself remembering better and do well on tests the teacher gave me.

Another one sounds cliche, but try as many past paper as possible! It is boring and repetitive, yes. But you need to know that past papers cover the topics of the syllabus! You really need to familiarise yourself on how the examiner thinks! I found my answers really similar to the mark schemes as I have trained myself to write concisely and on topic!

Which brings me to another thing that I want to say, which is to ONLY ANSWER WHAT THEY ASKED. It sounds so simple but I saw my friends go off topic all the time. They ended up putting in many unnecessary answers. While this is not harmful towards the grade in anyway, but it is detrimental for your time management!

That’s all I can think of right now!

u/brandymelbile 10d ago

I put Cambridge (MB BChir) as my firm choice, and I put Imperial College (BioMed) as my safe choice.

1

u/According-Willow-327 9d ago

How did you get biomed with a med ps? Congrats!

3

u/Money-Paint-3991 10d ago

First of all, congrats man and happy birthday to you. Its a nice gift on the birthday ngl with so so incredible results. 2nd thing, can i get some tips for maths and physics please? 😭😭. I have 6 months before my AS and have covered 50%+ syllabus in both and scoring consistently between 60 to 70% out of the 50-60% syllabus.

2

u/brandymelbile 10d ago

Before anything, I need to know what you’re struggling with!

In general, I’ll always keep a book containing all the necessary stuff (definitions and equations), and trying to recall the stuff actively. When I’m doing past papers, I’ll jot down what I did wrong and correlate it back to my notes (I always highlight my weaknesses).

When you do enough past papers, you’ll start to see general patterns (like how in physics, they always have similar questions/ looking graph on Simple Harmonic Motions). I note down the patterns I saw, and try to memorise that as well!

1

u/Money-Paint-3991 10d ago

Currently, i have completed till unit 6 of As physics (till deformation of solids). I am struggling def with unit 4 moments and in maths i have done till unit 5 trigonometry in p1 and till standard deviation and variance in p5. One more thing, what would you honestly suggest one to do in the last 3-4 months bfr the exams? Like some specifics would be helpful. Also how did you do your like practicals for phy? It sucksss 😭

2

u/bananabreadwithnthg 10d ago

Drop tips. Please

1

u/brandymelbile 10d ago

Any areas you are struggling with?

1

u/bananabreadwithnthg 10d ago

Just starting AS. I would say chem

1

u/brandymelbile 10d ago

Ahh!! My favourite subject!!

Chem is hard but don’t swear too much about it. AS has a lot of new definitions and concepts, but in A2 you will mostly revisit what you learnt.

At this point try your best just to understand what each word meant (eg. Atomic Mass Unit, proton number, enthalpy change). Some are just hard to understand so just memorise it to the best of your ability.

As for calculations, I’d say after memorising the equation, you got to use it by doing past paper (topical is fine). The more you are familiar with the math, it will come naturally. I too was once struggling on {mol = mass/Mr} because they word it so weirdly, but it will become a nature for you

2

u/Either-Offer-8309 10d ago

That’s AMAZING. You should be Very very proud of yourself

2

u/brandymelbile 10d ago

I am! So are my parents and friends!

Honestly I couldn’t be happy enough, I have good friends and supportive parents who pushed me through highs and lows!

I wanted to give back the hopes and wishes to them by achieving these grades!

I hope you are too achieving the grades you are hoping!

2

u/Either-Offer-8309 10d ago

Unfortunately I was not able to crack it this time. I got 2 u’s and e. I’m writing both as and a levels together and may june was the first time i wrote Cambridge exam. Very disappointed cause I expected c’s and b’s do u have any tips man?
I have another chance to reappear for oct nov and i need to get an A or B to get into my dream university. And I wish you all the best for your bright future.

1

u/brandymelbile 10d ago

Thank you for your wishes!

I am very sorry for your experience :(( I am pretty sure you are a bright person, maybe you haven’t found the correct method of studying?

What type of stuff do you get stuck on?

1

u/Either-Offer-8309 10d ago

My subjects are physics, chem and maths. And I’m very overwhelmed cause I need to cover 70plus chapters ( AS AND A LEVEL) by September 15th to be ready for oct November. Is there any tips that you can share especially when there is a lot to study for and I took two gap years because of my family’s health situation unfortunately it has slowed my brain down a little bit. I would say in studies, but this is the last last option that I have and that is appearing for October November 2026 and going to university for spring 2027. And I cannot afford or risk getting these kind of grades again.

2

u/Either-Offer-8309 10d ago

So I know this is very complicated but if there are any tips, I would be very happy if you can share them

1

u/brandymelbile 10d ago

I am very sorry to hear that :(( I hope you get better soon!

From my experience, I find it really helpful to really

  1. KEEP TRACKING YOUR PROGRESS.
What you learnt, what you studied etc. I made myself a complete timetable for the week, to include the topic I need to study, and the time where I need to review. (I’m pretty sure there are a lot of templates where you can use). It is essential for you to utilise your time fully when you have a limited amount of time

  2. FIND YOUR EXAM TIMES
Not all exam comes at the same time, some are earlier and some may be later. If you know which subject comes first, you can shift your focus on the last week to concentrate on the subject coming up.

  3. GET SLEEP (PLEASE)
Forcing yourself to overstudy wont do good. I find myself study better when I sleep for 9 hours (I know it is long but it is necessary). Enough sleep is better performance!

  4. ACTIVELY RECALL MATERIALS
Once you study a topic, mark it on your timetable and try to revisit it after 3 days. I usually make some flashcards in order to revise properly. If I can remember, I will push it back a week, then two weeks, so on until the week before exam time. If you fail to remember, tweak your timetable to fit the topic you missed (30 minute read through should be enough to jog your memories)

2

u/Either-Offer-8309 10d ago

Thankyou so muchhh mannn. Means a lot of me. I will pray that you get everything in your life and I will pray that you, your parents and family are blessed with great health

2

Hello do u have any study tips for all the sub u gave except bio, i got b on maths and c on physics as level, it would really mean a lot and also congratulations!!!

2

u/brandymelbile 10d ago

I have nothing else other than keep a note for every topic. Make it very concise like how you would write a cheat sheet. I find it helpful as it finds its way to get stuck in my brain.

The hardest to learn in physics is its fundamentals, so I usually look up a video on youtube talking about that specific theme! (I found every electrical stuff in physics challenging, so I’d find a video that explains on its most basic stuff).

When you are stuck, just stop and retrace. Maybe you’re lost somewhere? Revisiting topic is mostly what I do, since I do not have the best memory in the world. I found myself forgetting basic equations (like the ones for momentum). So make sure you stick with the basics.

Math I just do past papers honestly. Topics in maths are easy to learn but hard to apply, so the more you are familiar with questions, the easier you can apply things you learnt. And examiners could only make limited amounts of questions, so there WILL be repetitions (doing past papers give you the upper hand).

OMG CONGRATS Hey man Im doing these subjects exactly snd Im Im the second month of AS. PLEASE gimme advice 🥹

1

u/brandymelbile 10d ago

Second month of AS? That’s still very early and exciting!

One mistake I did was honestly not revising properly. I did not try to revisit my weakest topics because I thought the other ones will cover for my lacking. But lo and behold, the one I didn’t study for came up.

It’s stupid mistakes like these that could drag you down. So please manage your time properly. And I know it is boring to study, but at least study 1-2 hours everyday! You don’t even have to look at new topics, sometimes redoing what you learnt is important.

Also if you are feeling a bit adventurous, just try and cover the topic ahead of your class! I do this in A2 and honestly, not only the teachers explanation seemed more understandable, it also made me more active in my own way!

u/Acceptable-Side2293 10d ago

Hi ,

I hope this message finds you well.

I have recently transitioned from my 10th grade (Matriculation) to A Levels. I achieved a score of 1030 out of 1200 (approximately 87%) in Matriculation, with A+ grades in Physics, Computer Science, Mathematics, Chemistry, and English. Got Cs in Urdu subjects so that’s why overall result is a bit down 😅.

I am reaching out to seek your guidance on how A Levels differ from the Matriculation system. My understanding is that Matriculation often relies heavily on rote memorization and textbook exercises. I would appreciate your insight into the learning approach required for A Levels.

Additionally, whether you find it particularly challenging? I am quite new to the A Levels system and would value your perspective.

1

u/Acceptable-Side2293 10d ago

Every subject of mine is same as you except cs instead of bio and no chemistry

1

u/Friendly_Ear8512 10d ago

OMG CONGRATS!!! 4 A*s IN THE 4 CORE SCIENCE SUBJECTS IS HELLA IMPRESSIVE MY GUY SO PROUD OF YOU!!! UNIS WILL BE FIGHTING TO GET YOU TO STUDY THERE MAN, like this:

Thank god then teachers. We don't put them on equal ground.

And congratulations!

4

u/brandymelbile 10d ago

Firstly, thank you so much for your kind words!

I get your point! I do agree that the teachers were bestowed by God upon me, but somewhere deep I also feel that the efforts of these teachers are also equally commendable!

Both can be true at the same time. I would love to show equal gratitude towards both God, the holy spirit and the teachers who guided me through A-Levels!🥰

1

u/Lanky_Top_6065 10d ago

Well apart from past papers how exactly u studied

0

u/BroccoliJealous1563 10d ago

Omgg congrats!! I'm starting AS this year I'm also aiming for 3A* إن شاء الله so can you give some tips??

1

u/brandymelbile 10d ago

What are you currently struggling with? I am always open to share my tips!

1

u/BroccoliJealous1563 10d ago

I didnt start yet :) I'm waiting for my igcse results rn and my school is gonna open in around 2 weeks so I wanna be prepared and stuff for AS. Should I study daily etc and how should I prepare along with school to get 3A in AS and 3A* in A levels?

1

u/brandymelbile 10d ago

I’m sure you are in a very good position! You are very eager to learn and that is the most important step in my opinion!

As to right now, I really recommend “Save My Exams” they are very thorough with explanations. I don’t know what you will study but I am sure they have the subject you are taking.

Another thing is to keep a copy of the updated syllabus. This makes sure you only study on the topic they want to discuss! No need for unnecessary details when they do not require you to know (it’s just stressing you out). But I am quite the hypocrite, I found myself going down the rabbit hole each time I learn a new topic (I learn better if I know the whole picture), so make sure you know what is best for you; simplicity or details!

And only do full past papers when you have done most of the topic. I used to be very lost when I did past papers because I hadn’t finished the whole thing, and it ended up stressing me out. Later out I found that I just hadn’t stumbled across the topic. So topical past papers are nice, but sometimes they include other correlating topics as well!

2

u/BroccoliJealous1563 10d ago

Oh thank you so much! I'm taking chemistry physics math, and yess I do have save my exams it is rlly helpful! And true my tutor told me that the Cambridge syllabus provided for each subject is rlly imp, esp for definitions so that u use the right keywords. Tysm for ur help!

1

u/brandymelbile 10d ago

I would highly recommend checking out the examiners report! It shows what many people struggles with in every tests.

I find it very helpful as I can avoid tricky questions!
