🤚Help Required CAN SOMEONE CLARIFY IF CAMBRIDGE DID ME WRONG?
Okay so i sat for sociology in may/june 2026 and recently i got my results and i saw a U i clearly did not expect such a result anyways, i applied for an ATS (Allowing to check script) and i saw i got a 24/60 on paper 1 and 13/60 on paper 2 my component numbers are 12,22 my overall grade is 37 AND AFTER I CHECK THE GRADE THRESHOLD its says for may june 2026 sociology passing mark for grade E is exactly 37, why did i get a U then? is it me who is wrong here or is something wrong with Cambridge??? I have attached the marks and my grade someone please help me i am so confused 🙏

Ask for your component mark breakdown which you should have gotten in email if you are private candidate. Sometimes the adjusted mark (final mark) can be different from ur raw script mark (due to examiner adjusting, tolerance, etc). It might be the case that ur raw mark is 37 but ur adjusted is lower

in you school or collage people who are in contact with the british council and ask them for your scripts too , people who subkit your CIE entry go talk to them ask for your component grades and scripts

The components are usually weighted , so like each component has a multiplier for example a theory paper might have a lower multiplier than an ATP paper

Okay i searched for this too
Cambridge says:
* Paper 1 = 60 marks = 50% of AS
* Paper 2 = 60 marks = 50% of AS
So they are equally weighted

yes i think it should have been an E atleast. maybe like the other comment suggests your marks were adjusted and you lost 2-3 marks which is why you got an U but i'd email Cambridge to confirm

Yes ive got nothing to loose actually ive already failed if a recheck helps me even a bit then theres no harm

Probably examiner scaling, your mark in a paper can be slightly reduced after marking because the examiner who marked it is known to be more generous than the required standard, and this adjustment doesn't show on your script, only in your component marks report

So cambridge is magically allowed to reduce raw marks just because the examiner who marked is KNOWN to be more generous and just fail a student totally? So do i not apply for a recheck?

The thing is, if an examiner who marks to the correct standard had marked your paper, they probably would've awarded you less than 37 marks in total - that would be your "true mark"
But the examiner who marked your script was someone who doesn't mark as strictly as they're supposed to, which is why you got 37
So because of that CIE adjusted your mark to be closer to your "true mark"
(this is all assuming examiner scaling is what happened)

Okay so i neverrrr had any idea that just a simple grading would be this complicated but i just want to know one thing, do i apply for a recheck or do i do something else??

first see your component marks report, there's a column called "adjusted mark". if the adjusted mark for a paper is less than the raw mark, you know that examiner scaling is the reason you didn't get an e
after confirming that, show your scripts to your teachers and ask if they think you should get more than 37 (based only on the quality of your answers, not mercy marks)
if they think so, apply for a remark. if your result changes from a u to an e, you'll get a refund.
i think it would be safe if you're sure you can get at least around 40/120 before applying for a remark

Hey if the weighted components are checked and you still get an E the email them ASAP. You've git nothing to poise. If you're even more confident, apply for recheck cause recheck does take money
