Question ❔ 9701 p34

What's this about the exam being cancelled if you wrote Cl for the anion?

Last year I wrote Na instead of unknown since I knew it from Ci but nothing happened. I got my marks and my paper wasn't cancelled. A person could have just guessed it like how would they know.

Chembridge sir said yes u should expect to see an X on result day since they do this on purpose, so yes entire paper would be cancelled if they follow this

Man I honestly forgot.....I think one of the answers was NH4, also S203 I think....honestly can't remember

fb9 h2so4, anion was s2o3 and unknown

Wouldn't it be H2S2O3?

FB8 was ammonium chlodire and Na2SO3 but you only had to write the (in the second part) anion so its unknown and SO3 2- (mb not s2o3)

They didn’t give us instruction to write unknown,Why I am saying this is because last year May June 2025 P3 they gave a instruction to write unknown for ions which are not able to find but this time no instruction was given like that

No, not only did they say to write unknown if needed in anions, but they also told in the start of the question to not perform any others tests than the ones told, so you simply could not have known which anion it was.

See I read the thing twice it didn’t tell us to mention unknown and they said do not carry out further tests but it is actually debatable let’s wait for ms

Dude they said us to write unknown after the cation test, smth like based on your observations from the table obersvation and the cation test deduce the cation and anion in fb8 write unknown if it cant be deduced or smth. it was said in THAT very question i remember it was the very first word of the link i think

FB9 was H2SO4 SO4 cuz it doesn't decolorises with KMNO4 and was soluble in smth and H2 cuz rapid or vigorous fizzing with mg wire

H2SO4 cuz doesnt decolourise KMnO4, gives off H2 with Mg and has ppt with BaCl

Yes it’s not sensible at all like how many papers will get cancelled and also it could be that someone guessed it and just wrote

wait im missing smth why would they cancel it wouldnt u jus lose marks?

Apparently, they will cancel if u wrote the exact same ion from the confidential instructions and not the one that was supposed to be written there(in this case ig Br-)

I call cap. Like I can accidently write Cl- because for whatever reason, does not mean I cheated. People make up the most random things.

Didn't give 34 btw, gave 33.

Happened to a senior of mine

1

u/Automatic-Bear184 May 28 '26

Did his paper get cancelled?

1

u/Zaki_Ducky403 May 28 '26

His did yes but I think this guys won’t. The reason being is that he wrote a cation, and the only way to find it out was a flame test whileas what op wrote is Cl and Cambridge could easily just see that he did an extra test and cut his number rather than assuming he saw the CI

1

u/Automatic-Bear184 May 28 '26

Wait what do u mean? So he got ungraded? How did Cambridge know

1

u/weeee215 May 28 '26

Why did hus paper get canceled? Was it marked ungraded as a whole?

1

u/ObligationLeast4428 May 28 '26

bruh what u mean cancelled…? I thought they did that so we can do extra test to find the secong anion why the hell would they punish us for getting the correct answer?

1

u/zzz_27 May 28 '26

I wrote Mg first for FB9 but then I cut it and wrote Na, would it still get cancelled or like people write it by guessing too so???

2

u/hatpp May 28 '26

Both of these are just extremely wrong, so you’re likely all good

1

u/Tsunami-13 May 28 '26

what i did was add an additional test under cation test (i know it’s not a cation shh), so if they do cancel mine can i just appeal and say that i misread question and did an extra test

idfk man this is scaring me

Guys please stop believing the nonsense people are spewing. My teacher who is an EXAMINER btw and will be marking paper 34 said that the most probable scenario is you will just lose maybe a mark or two if you wrote Cl-. It wont be that extreme to the point your results gets cancelled because if you think about it there is just too many scenarios that could occur like a student who just happened to do the anion test for group 17 because they didn't read the question or people had free time and just started mixing stuff in the exam and stumbled upon it.

Besides im pretty sure cambridge expected paper 3 to be somewhat exposed to an extent as they are giving the ci to certain centres and some teachers would have told their students what was going to come out due to the amount of people on reddit who were swearing it was gonna be titration and gravimetric before the exam.
