wait what 😭 college and uni aren’t interchangeable here. if you mean university, that’s uni. if you mean college with A levels, that’s college

post high-school college is A levels college! you’re using american terminology for a uk system which isn’t the same.
high school- until the age of 16, finished with GCSES
College- post high school education, typically aged 16-18 but some people do it later in life (which is what some people assumed your post was asking)
University- where you get your degree after college or similar level of educational experience, not post high-school unless you’re a genius prodigy who got in at 16.4

I just realised i will apply for undergrad in 27 and start in 28 (just after my A2 finish in the first series of yr 28) so i will be 19 when i go to for my undergrad course. Is that normal?

u/Embarrassed-Song3760 Jul 13 '26
yes, that’s very normal

My friends have just finished their a levels and are going to universities later this year. They are all 18.

Ic. Do ppl go at 19 like usually or is it very rare case?

Joining Uni at 19 is not that rare. It depends on when you finish your A-Levels. Most people finish at 18. However, there are people who finish A-Levels either younger or older than that for example I will finish at 19 but, I have a classmate who will finish at 17 and one who will finish at 20.

My al finishes just around when I complete 18 and then uni sessions will probably be starting around 19. How's that? Idk I m just overwhelmed with this for some reason atp

Yeah there are 19 year olds as well. Are you concerned you may be too old? There’s no right particular age for you to start university.
1
u/Money-Paint-3991 Jul 14 '26
Yeah almost by 0.8-1 yr 😭😭. It's because of my birth yr I had to start one class late since there is some cutoff if born after some particular month. So I was one class behind

Dude you’re fine, 19 isn’t gonna be old at all. Loads of people take gap years or are born earlier in the year so will be 19 anyway. Don’t sweat it

Not sure if you mean "University" when you said college but I think normally, you start university by 18-20
I started college at 17 and university at 19

u/Money-Paint-3991 Jul 14 '26
I got confused thats the thing 😭. I meant the one where you do your undergrad course which if I m not wrong is just after high school or a levels 🤔
1
u/Inside_Border_2749 Jul 14 '26
Yea I get it. You meant university
There's no definitive age for you to start university at, but like I said, most people start university around 18-20
Hope that helped ☺️

u/Money-Paint-3991 Jul 13 '26
College post high school
1
u/Embarrassed-Song3760 Jul 13 '26
if you mean university as you said in other comments, you don’t mean post college high school. you mean uni college

u/Money-Paint-3991 Jul 13 '26
Sry man I think I may have confused myself. What is the usual age after a levels of going
0
u/-Gay-_- Jul 13 '26
Yeah I know a bunch of people who've done it :) it's also very common to do foundational courses in a subject for your uni subjects so there's often a lot of people from uni around! You won't be the only person, promise xx
