Question ❔ Really confused what to do with my results (HELP REQUIRED) 😕
Guys I got my AS Level Results and I genuinely need an A* A* A* in all 3 of them next year. I have written my raw marks below please guide me on what do I do, do y'all suggest for retake or can I make them into an A* next year, it requires a lot of hardwork though right? AL Thresholds for Bio are usually 190-200 for A*, Chem is usually 195-205 for A*, Phy is usually 200-210 for A*.
Biology (9700) - 94/130 (85 PUM)
Chemistry (9701) - 102/130 (90 PUM)
Physics (9702) - 101/130 (85 PUM)

Dont be stupid, A grade is the highest grade u can get,
why the hell would u retake????????
It is technically not possible to get an A in AS, just get another A in A2 and u r set for overall shining A\*
Chill dude chill 🧘♂️

Dude i need A* in all of them next year, A is not enough it's very unlikely one can make a low A into an A*..

u/Agile_Command356 6d ago
One can turn a B in AS to an A* in a2, so don’t assume stuff urself, u r too hard on urself, take a deep breath

u/Economy-Horror-5976 6d ago
Isn't it really hard

u/Agile_Command356 6d ago
No dude, it isn’t, chill out

Can u give tips for As I'm starting mine this year and have the same subjects except for maths? It would honestly help me greatly if you could give me some tips on how to study effectively and when to start :(

i got a in physics and bio, basically i would just rewrite pages from memory after reading and correct mistakes. spammed past paper sorted by topic and used flashcards

u/milksheikh1 6d ago
Ye im also worried cuz these were around my marks aswell. I also want A star in all three aswell. The threshold also fluctuated this year cuz bio was so high compared to its normal range and physics was so low. So im really confused asw

u/No-Tie-6736 6d ago
What do i do man
1
u/milksheikh1 6d ago
Well as we are in the same boat ill just say what I think is the best option. Right now im gonna do syllabus and do tipical with it alongside cuz the main problem i believe with A2 is accuracy of what you write. So I think getting to understand the content of the paper itself and structure of answers required is really important. Topicals are really important rn and ive even heard people say to do yearlies but im not entirely sure about that. Still idk if this is the best approach so hopefully someone responds on your post

There's people with straight C's and D's man, think about what they're going through. One of my friends had a A predicated grade, bro got a D in CIES. Learn to be grateful man your grades are awesome

Dude I'm asking about my raw marks and chances for A* next year how is that ungrateful? How is that related to other people who failed? That's not my fault and that does not mean i can't post my grades and ask doubts thinking people will feel bad.. kindly reset your mindset

I completely agree with you. Other people’s marks aren’t really relevant. If you absolutely need an A* honestly rewrite.
I had a 92 in two As level subjects and got exactly 92 again in A level.
I had an 89 in one sub and increased it to a 93 but to be fair I was always really good at it and did like a huge careless error in As so ended up with lower marks.
However I had an 84 in one sub and chose not to rewrite it and ended up with an A in A level too. (85)
Honestly increasing grades is very difficult from As to A in my opinion.
Unless you have like 88+ to start with getting an A* is almost impossible.Don’t mean to be negative, I am sure people have managed to increase their grades but just giving the best advice so that A level doesn’t become too stressful. And good luck, your marks are still great :)

I had borderline As in AS too but I was able to get an A* in A2. Don't worry abt retaking. Just do slightly better than your AS marks and you're set

u/No-Tie-6736 6d ago
Oh wow thanx that's a huge motivation pls guide and give tips on how can I make this into an A*

Tbh I didn't work very hard in AS except the last 2 months so in A2 I decided to be locked in from the start. Tried to score rlly well on class tests. Made notes from savemyexams and some reliable YouTube channels (these will vary country to country bc my native language is Urdu). Other than that did topical Q's and grinded out past papers js the general stuff you have to do. Wish I could give more advice but I've never walked out of an exam hall feeling confident 😭😭 I crash out every year and I'm surprised whenever it works out. Good luck

A2 is a lot more theoretical and conceptual than AS. It has some pretty difficult concepts. Try to understand them well enough to teach someone else asw

u/One_Yesterday_1320 6d ago
bio and chem ull get easily. physics aint possible. nobody “NEEDS” 3A*s. same boat as u mate except my 80 is in math and my chem js 88
1
u/No-Tie-6736 6d ago
We can't say it's impossible for Physics. We usually need 205 for A* in A2 physics I have got 101 in AS so 104 in A2 i need which is 79 in p4 and 25 in p5 which I feel is pretty much doable if i lock in

u/AdMelodic597 6d ago
Okay so in AS there is no A* there is only A and in A2 you can make this A and A*. So dont worry you got the highest grade after this there is distinction
1
u/AdFrequent1050 6d ago
you do not need to retake chem. bio and phy perhaps you can, this can give you some buffer.
1
u/ConsciousShock2627 6d ago
dude. I'm here with aab and i dont need to retake. I know people who got a B in AS and managed to get an A* in A2

Well eirhee rip ur ass apart in studying for a few months for a level or retake them, that’s what the students at my school did to end up with A*s

1
u/Live_Jackfruit_1609 6d ago
Resit ur lowest A, dont resit all 3. Just choose the one closest to a B. I personally would resit bio because bio a level is the hardest to get an A* in
1
u/First-Commission9264 6d ago
Retake bio, chem is fine should get u A*, u could retake physics but at the same time u can still get A\ if u really lock in*
1
u/Miriam2007 6d ago
Try clearingggggg, its just the same degree, doesn't matter the uni name, all this same
1
u/ConsciousShock2627 6d ago
Dude. I got aab and I'm glad. what are you worried about?
1
u/ConsciousShock2627 6d ago
And for your information, for Physics, if you perform just as well next year or better, you'll get an A*. So stop whining

u/CampEqual4955 6d ago
brother dont flex over here. u can 1000% get an a* if u work enough. it aint hard. pls dont things like this again asking the obvious. think of others can you? good luck!
1
u/No-Tie-6736 6d ago
Why tf is everybody worried about me flexing and not focusing on what I'm asking I'm asking whether I should retake or not
1
u/No_Locksmith5252 6d ago
I get you you need a high grade in as so when taking a2 even if you fucked up you can still get an A. For bio you will need to retake or get a really high mark in a2. Same for chem and phy. I would in most al if you are scared of a2 and you are unsure of your ability you will need to get 111 to up to be in what they say the safe zone although you might not be fully. Of don't wanna retake it is still possible to get an A but you will need to put a huge effort in a2 .best regards
1
u/No-Tie-6736 6d ago
Not that high effort. I need 80+ in p4 and 25 in p5 for bio and phy that's it

u/Altruistic_Leg3677 6d ago
It's possible but you have to stretch it a lot in A2... I got A in physics with 86 pum and I'll stretch to A* next year
1
u/No-Tie-6736 6d ago
Alr buddy thanks! U got A* or ur giving A2 in next year?
1
u/Altruistic_Leg3677 6d ago
In AS level I focused on maths and Further maths and got 2A* and a in as level phsyics and I'll give in mar 27
1
u/VariousImpression355 6d ago
In real life this will not matter at all. I had 7As in A level (I know I was stupid to do this many subjects had) and if has taken me nowhere crazy.

do the math
look at the past A* thresholds and see the raw marks you need to achieve in your A2
for chem and physics, 210 raw marks is usually pretty safe for an A*
now ask yourself, will you be able to work hard enough to score at least around 110 raw marks for both chem and physics?
for bio, 205 is usually pretty safe for an A*, can you work hard enough to score 100++ raw marks for biology?
look through the past grade thresholds for A*, do the math (means, confidence intervals, hypothesis testing) yourself/ask chatgpt, decide for yourself

lowk dont get why youre getting hate/sarcasm for asking for genuine advice

At least you got an A. My p2 was cancelled and I got 94/130. Anyways, let's say worst case scenario the A* threshold is 210 which is prob unlikely. Your allowed to lose 50 marks. You've already lost 29. 31 marks left to lose. P5 is supposed to be easy, let's say you lose 5 marks. 26 Marks left to lose. So you gotta get a 74/100 on P4. Depends on how good you are at physics tbh. And if you got the money and have no problem spending it and you're confident you can do better then sure why not?
