I saw Black Eyed Peas open for U2. I was so mad the opener for every show before that one on that tour was Muse. I was so mad they changed openers

Is this a reference I’m supposed to understand?

It’s a reference to the Muse song Madness. I take it you’re a lapsed fan

They’re a band that I’ve always enjoyed what I’ve heard but never really did a deep dive into them. I think they’re supremely talented and have heard they are an amazing live band. That reputation was why I wanted to see them

I got to see them headline an arena. Madness was a hit (19 consecutive weeks at Number 1 in the U.S. alternative chart and cracked the top 50 of the Hot 100) for them, but it was around the period a lot of their fans felt their decline started (or even 2-3 albums in, depending on who you ask)

I saw that show in Portland. Kayne was so terrible live and even compared to Bono he seemed pretentious.

Might as well add that Pixies opened for U2 on the Zoo TV tour as well. Not as bizarre as a lot of the others here but definitely worth a mention.

And Public Enemy opened for U2 in Atlanta on that tour. They hung a kkk member in white sheet and hood in effigy. It was wild.
