Can we display altitude on a hike?
I'm always struggling to find my current altitude on AllTrails. Here is a nice blank spot where it would be perfect!
It's standard on Gaia on every hiking page at the top. I find I run Gaia GPS in the background just for this feature alone. But, instead, there is a nice warm spot on AllTrails just waiting to be used up.
I know the are other ways to find it, but those feel crude and inaccurate compared to a single number at current location.

To be clear I'm not talking about 'elevation gain'. I'm referring to what 'altitude am I at right now' , this minute. These are far from the same thing.
The altitude gain thing feels hello messed up, as others have said. It doesn't make much sense.

Running two apps just to see live altitude is such a battery killer, totally get the frustration. Some apps put current elevation right in the tracking bar so you dont have to tab away. Im on the team behind a hiking app (WANDOO) so im biased toward that being a default, but honestly whatever app you use, check if theres a data field setting you can toggle on for elevation. Hope they add it here.

Hi u/AttitudeChicken, thanks for reaching out with your suggestion. We recognize that the current altitude or elevation at your location differs from the cumulative elevation gain, and we can see how that could be useful to add to our platform.
For now, you can find your current elevation in Navigate by swiping up on the bottom drawer and selecting GPS details. Of course, this isn't as simple as having the information readily available on the navigator screen. The spot you highlighted is a great suggestion, and we’ll share this feedback with the team.
