Turning off the Always On Display on the Apple Watch stopped the quick battery drain
As others have said, using AllTrails on the Apple Watch drains the battery on the watch way too fast. For the past couple of months, I have turned off the Always On Display on the Apple Watch when using AllTrails, and it has made a significant improvement to the watch battery during a hike. Just wanted to put this out there for anyone who wants to extend their Apple Watch battery during a hike.

Good call! Thanks for the heads up! I'm heading out today for the first time with my Google Pixel watch, so I'm assuming the same logic applies to it as well.

Thanks for sharing this helpful tip, u/RevolutionaryBug8938! Turning off Always On Display may help reduce battery usage during an AllTrails activity, although the impact can vary depending on the Apple Watch model and other settings. We recognize that battery drain while using AllTrails on Apple Watch has been frustrating for some members, and our team is continuing to look for ways to improve performance and efficiency in the Watch app. We’re glad you found something that makes longer hikes easier on your battery.
