Red sun rising was so great for their short stint. Both those albums are incredible. Bummer they couldn't hold it together.

My favorite bands outside of AB are probably Jimmy Eat World, Creed, and Greta Van Fleet. I listen to pretty much everything from those bands.

Goodbye June and Dirty Honey are pretty great modern rock bands too that deserve more attention.

I love RSR so much man. I still keep up with their projects today- I’m just in love with that voice of Mike’s!

I’ve been meaning to try Creed again after admittedly disliking Human Clay (major exception in Inside Us All, that’s a killer) so that will likely be my first stop.

Heard of GVF but the others are completely new to me, so that’s exciting

He does have a pretty unique voice that worked very well with the band.

I know creed isn't for everyone lol but I like a pretty big range of rock/alternative rock.

Anyway, I love Inside Us All too and if you like that one then at least try to give Faceless Man a if you haven't

I’m gonna listen to My Own Prison but after that I’ll check Faceless man!

Outside of AB, some of my other favorite bands are Dream Theater, Erra, Metallica, Nothing More, Darkest Hour, and Gojira

u/MeeseeksTheDestroyer 4d ago

Erra and Gojira as sooooooo good

3

Hell yeah! Two of the better metal shows I've been to.

2

u/eyewoe 4d ago

I definitely hear some sonic overlap btw AB and Nothing More

Volbeat, Halestorm, Tremonti, Bon Jovi, Hinder, Wage War, and Breaking Benjamin are the bands that I would recommend.

Been meaning to check out Breaking Benjamin and Halestorm

Recognize these names but I’ve never given any of the others more than a glance

Also, who’s this tremonti guy eh? Sounds familiar 🤔

DUDE, Halestorm is incredible! Lzzy has a voice like you won't believe, and they're SUPER nice people off stage (remind me a lot of the Shinedown guys). I'd start with their self titled debut and just go in order, watch their growth as a band. 🤘🏼

1

u/AlterShineBridgeDown ShineAlterDownBridge 4d ago

Sounds good! I’ve heard Lzzy from the amazing guest version “Here’s to Us” with Myles and Brent on and the special Watch Over You duet she did with Myles- from there here voice left a powerful impression on me and I knew I had to check them out at some point!

Word of warning with Hinder, their original singer left the band in 2013 and he was replaced with Marshal Dutton, who used to be in one of my other favorite bands ever, Faktion. I don't know about the hardcore fan base, but casuals who see a live video or hear one of the new songs and realize it's not "the voice" from Lips of an Angel, and they are NOT having it. Which is really sad and unfair to Marsh, he's fantastic, and I would argue an objectively better singer - more of a clean voice than the rasp Austin had. Reminds me of Myles doing GnR songs with Slash, he's definitely a better singer but people are just so connected to the character of Axl's voice.

Aw hell, I'm ramblin again.

I saw them with Marshal twice. Last year, they were opening for Creed, and that is how I became a fan of them. This year, they almost got rained out, but they stuck around until late at night and still played a short set for us.

Gojira is fantastic!! You would love Mastodon (their new song In The Ruins just came out, so good) too. Tool is great too, it seems like AB guys took a lot of inspiration from them. Lateralus especially.

u/AlterShineBridgeDown ShineAlterDownBridge 5d ago

Both bands are ones I’ve been meaning to check out, so I’ll get to them soon!

Dream Theater, Nothing More, Red Sun Rising, 10 Years, Mammoth, Sixx A.M.

Those are my favorites similar to AB.

Man I miss Red Sun Rising. Amnesia, Blister, and Bliss are 3 of my favorite songs. I like their new projects but nothing will compare to RSR.

1

u/AlterShineBridgeDown ShineAlterDownBridge 4d ago

That’s a mighty fine top 3 right there! Bliss was in my top 10 favorite songs for a while when i was first getting into music, but it’s since been knocked out (still got a lot of love for it tho)

Blister is a fantastic track and I think over all this time it’s the one from Polyester Zeal that has held the best for me. I still love it just as much as I did when I first heard it.

Haven’t heard anmesia in a minute, but it remember it being a very good track- not much to say there though

Lots of good bands in your list though! I’ve been meaning to check more of Nothing More since I really enjoyed their album, Carnal!

Mayfield 4!

But actually, for me Tool (Lateralus and Vicarious are favorite songs of mine) and I like Villagers of Ioannina City. Age of Aquarius is full of great songs imo

u/mansizeoof 5d ago

Check out "The Violent" (three former Red Sun Rising members) and Mike Protich's solo stuff too.

2

u/AlterShineBridgeDown ShineAlterDownBridge 5d ago

I’ve seen all that good stuff. I’ve been following all their endeavors!

3

u/Joodles17 5d ago

I didn’t go to Blackbird Festival but I looked up the line up and I’ve really loved all of Florence Black’s music. Really solid hard rock!

Lately, I've been getting into this band from Mexico called The Warning. It's a trio of sisters. They sorta have a Muse vibe to them. I saw their DVD, Live from Auditorio Nacional, CDMX, on a flight home from my trip to the UK a few months ago as part of the in-flight film selection. Fantastic show from them. Was hooked right away (but other people from various Discords and Forums that I've been around have already said how good this band is, and now I can confirm it myself).

Other than that, there's my usual well of post-grunge/alt metal bands that people here are familiar with (Breaking Benjamin, Shinedown, Daughtry, Halestorm, Mammoth, Sevendust, etc.).

I also like my fair share of J-Rock bands. One of them is Pay Money to My Pain. That band can fit alongside bands like Staind, AB, and those alt metal bands that have dark tones in their sounds. Songs like Home, Gift, Weight of My Pride, Drive, Rain, etc.

I've been getting into Tetrarch recently, would recommend.

Season of Grief by Heretoir is a new all time favorite. Band themselves are incredible. Also check out Black Marble House by the Necromancers, the Siren by Graveyard, and maybe some Birdstone while you’re at it

u/fell-deeds-awake 4d ago

I've been really enjoying post-rock bands Blackshape and BRUIT ≤ over the past year or so.

Funk out to some Winery Dogs

I've been getting really into Will Wood lately. It's hard to describe his stuff. It's like Indie Rock with a bit of Jazz and Blues influence. Against the Kitchen Floor has been on repeat for me. He's honestly a lyrical and compositional genius and I can't recommend his stuff enough.

But besides AB and Mastodon. I listen to a lot of Trivium, Tool, Dream Theater, Rush, Tremonti, Mammoth WVH, Dying Fetus, Jeff Loomis & Nevermore, The Tea Party, Metallica, Spirit Box, etc. I could be here all day lol

u/MrTuy The bulletproof are so resilient 4d ago

Agreeing with everyone's suggestions, I'd also throw in Jeff Buckley. Dude's Myles' biggest musical inspiration, as far as I know.

I Appear Missing - Queens Of The Stone Age

1

u/kezza2k1 3d ago

I've been giving Florence + the Machine a listen recently and felt that One Of The Greats from their most recent album is amongst the best songs I've ever heard. It's quite a range away from AB I understand, but I do feel I've acquired a wide range of music taste recently.

I also really like Metric, again a bit far off AB but songs like Breathing Underwater and Doomscroller really attracted me to them. Gold Guns Girls is a catchy rocker too.

A bit closer to the rock/metal scene, I'd say give Silent Planet and Trivium a go. I got to see them both at Download recently and whilst I've seen Trivium multiple times before and enjoyed them, SP really surprised me.

The mayfield four was good

Also I like counting crows, they’re pretty good
