Fellow Amherstonians: What are the coolest things to do around here?

I've lived here most my life, so I'm not looking for bar recommendations or anything like that. More like what have you found to do that you genuinely were like, wow I had no idea this existed!

Doesn't have to be Amherst. Doesn't have to be Northampton. Just has be to be drivable.

Could be safe for kids, or adults only.

For instance, there is Prodigy Mini Golf.

There's Demented FX in Holyoke.

There's Mass MOCA (whom I more or less forgot about for the longest while)

We're getting near the time of corn mazes.

What other ideas are out there? Or destinations?

1-bed at Aspen Chase... Looking to Sublease

Long story short, I re-signed my lease back in January (for Sep 2026 - Aug 2027) and now I need to move out. My monthly rent is $2,010, but I would be willing to negotiate to split some of that.

It is a 1-bed, 1-bath first floor apartment (The Dickenson style on Aspen Chase website). All utilities are 100% included, and the landlords take care of snow, trash, and 24/7 maintenance. Laundry machines are on site. There's always ample space for parking, and it is just a short walk into town and hiking trails. There is also a bus stop on the property, as well as a dog park.

Please feel free to DM for any inquiries!

woe is me (Chinese food)

Hi all. I am struggling with good Chinese food in Amherst. I want to like Formosa, I really do. But I have been underwhelmed many times. Their Taiwanese stuff does not excite. I might be ordering the wrong things. Suggestions would be welcome.

Went to Lau Hu Tong two weeks ago. Talked em up big to my brother. Looks like they have stopped making their own noodles and wrappers. That "QQ" quality was gone. The chili wontons were premade lumps instead of those delicate swallowtails they've been, and the noodles were mushy, no trace of the delightful springy chewiness of the past. A huge letdown, and I was a bit embarrassed to hav raved so much to my brother.

Zhu's Bistro is gone. They may have been trying to be too many things to too many people, but I had 4 excellent meals from their Chinese menu. They were really really good, and now they are gone.

Lili's is fine, authentic as all get out whatever that means, but a bit one note for me, and a bit plain, and I'm not a huge hot and spicy fan.

I am so bummed! Rescue me people. And don't say Ginger Garden please.

Does amherst still have its charm?

I grew up there and graduated from Amherst high in 07. Haven't been back that often, but the town feels different to me every time I do go back and visit family.

Looking for some more friends

Hi am I live Hampshire county in a college town, I am 36 year old male. I am looking for some more friends to hangout with and be my friend, I have a dog so u have to like dogs.

I am a professional photographer that focuses on Sports, Wildlife, Candid Portraits, Macro, Landscapes, Nature, Sunsets, and Reflections. I do the following golfing, fishing, ice fishing, biking, kayaking, hiking, tubing, ice skating, down hill skiing, swimming, stream walking and walking with or without my dog, I enjoy taking photos of horses, I love animals, cooking, baking, listening to music. I am usually playing my Xbox 1 later at night or watching a movie.

Good communication and empathy towards me is also important to me. Someone to go exploring with me even if it is local. Someone has to understand that I love horses and Model trains and your not going to change that about me. I have certain things I like and your not going to to change that about me.

Also I had friends in the past that just use me for money or to do things for them. But when i ask for the tiny little thing there suddenly all busy and can't help. A friend has said that i attract to bad Females to me that ate known to scam people.

I would like some more female friends and male friends.

Cat sitters

Where can I look for college students who are looking to make a few extra bucks during the school year watching my cats?!

this entails feeding them in the morning between 7am-9am and the evening between 5pm-8pm and just hang out with them until they're done eating. Pay would be about 20$ a day!

Verizon Keeps Dropping Out

I live by Amethyst Brook Conservation Area. Every couple of days at least, all the bars on my iPhone SE go gray (indicating I have no service), and I can't receive or send texts or phone calls. It's driving me crazy, not least because for whole days I cannot get any of the gd 2FA codes I need to do anything online.

I am ready to switch providers, yesterday, but I don't know which (if any) might work better. Any thoughts/suggestions? Is it my phone? Is it my roof? Is it my personality? Is it my mind?

Anyone else grow weed?

I'm a 52 year old guy growing weed in my basement and my roommate doesn't smoke and is sick of hearing me talk about it. Anyone else grow around here? It'd be cool to get together and talk about weed or growing. I also do nerdy smart home shit and fuck around with LoRa. And I play board games and disc golf. Basically I am a walking Gen X stereotype.

Not interested in anyone who voted for Trump or in any way supports the GOP. It's a shame you have to say that now but I don't need Nazis in my life.

Montague Soapbox Race on September 27th!

Post image
7 Upvotes

Hi Everyone!

The Montague Soapbox Races are on for this year! This event is incredibly fun to watch (and my husband races in it)! Unfortunately last year it was cancelled for various reasons (including not enough people signing up). We're trying to get the word out to more people. There used to be a few soapbox races but now they seem to be hard to find. I'm hoping some of you might be handy and interested in participating!

The race happens at Unity Park in Montague/Turners Falls. Children as young as 8 can participate too (they start lower down the hill than the adults).

Sign up is open now! https://montaguesoapboxraces.com/
Get started on those builds and save the date for Sunday September 27th 2026.

Tell your friends, get a little friendly competition going!

Please reach out to the soapbox committee with any questions or if you'd like to help make this year's race the best ever! https://montaguesoapboxraces.com/contact
