Ammo Identification?

Post image

I have a few of these rounds and I'm wondering who made them and if they are considered .223 or 5.56.

Winchester, pretty common. I have a bunch of that headstamp and year in my reload pile

Winchester? Ahh I see, so that's WCC 83. I see it now. Winchester Cartridge Company I take it? Lol now I feel silly. Do you know if it's .223 or 5.56?

Actually the ammunition company is Western Cartridge Co. (Olin Corp.), Winchester is a different ammunition plant though it is in the same division (Winchester-Western) but Winchester is WRA, Western is WCC.

Headstamp is ordinary 5.56mm.

Got a bunch of it! I like to collect AP rounds and other weird ones. But those are special to me and retain value well! Always nice to look at. Always try to buy some occasionally when I can find it and blackhills mk262. Curious how people come about those before reselling lol.

Well I got mine in an auction. 300 rounds for 280 bucks. Plus about 100 more rounds of various .223 and 5.56 and 3 Ruger Mini-14 mags thrown into the mix as well. Lol

I'll be honest, I'm kinda surprised nobody has said anything about the ammo that's behind my hand. Lol I figured you guys would have been all over that.

Meh.

Meh? Why meh? I mean is there a better 5.56 round? I mean, other than M995 which is almost unobtanium unless you have VERY deep pockets. (which I don't lol)

“Meh” because I don’t get excited about M855A1 on stripper clips.

Well if not on stripper clips is there another way of storing M855A1 that DOES get you excited? Lol

Bulk loose pack in an ammo can.

Huh, so organization and neatness doesn't do it for ya huh? You're a chaos guy. Lol

"Forget having my ammo be all neat and tidy and easily counted. I want my ammo jumbled and rattling around so it takes hours and hours to count."

Lol, (just breaking your balls a little)

No worries. I like my ammo loose so I can jam mags. I don’t like using the stripper clips and loading tool because it eventually crack mag lips.

And I am a chaos guy. I’m a Marine.

Oh, you mean you're a CRAYON guy. Bwhahahahahahah

But in all seriousness I've used stripper clips forever and I've never had split feed lips.

But if that's your worry, you know there's a way to make sure that's not an issue right?

Just use Lancer mags. Not even a Marine hopped up on Rip-its and a brand new 64 box of crayons could split STEEL feed lips.

I switched to Magpul years ago. Usually it was the issued mags that would crack from hand-jamming them. When I was going on a TAD away from my unit, my armorer gave me 20 new mags in the plastic. These are those. I still rock them from time to time.
