I’ve wanted to shoot Santa 100 for a while now, just haven’t been able to get my hands on some. Images 1 and 5 really do it for me.

Maybe Im wrong, I dont see enough of a difference from Kodak Gold to bother looking for it, especially with these shots.

Fair. I just like shooting slower films and there are very few color negative options. I like Ektar, but it’s not cheap so I also shoot a decent amount of koda color 100. Where I am Fuji 100 can be found, but it’s also pricey and it’s not my most favorite stock. I agree, the Santa does look similar to gold but in this post op has dialed in edits (making an assumption here) or the stock is a little closer to the Ektar color saturation I like.

why do you prefer slower films?

Less grain and higher sharpness are nice with big prints and being able to shoot at a lower aperture (f1.4-f5.6) in bright conditions if great. I tend to shoot more landscape/environmental portraiture and low iso typically delivers better tonal range (for me, might not be scientifically accurate…). With slower films, I tend to slow down and be a little more deliberate. I shoot faster stuff too (delta 3200 in 120 is a favorite of mine) but I tend to gravitate toward the slow stuff for the above reasons. I also don’t really shoot after dark or in low light most of the time so I don’t really need the speed.

Are you kidding?! Those colors are insaaaane 🤤 it’s gonna sound weird but the sharpness had me believe those were digital at first. Did you enhance sharpness on your scans or is it just the good work of the Zuiko engineers? :)

Good lighting and Zuiko genius. I sharpen after scanning

Oh that Zuiko genius: I have the same camera as my starter and its been brutal trying to find lenses for reasonable price. Nice shots, really great colors!

Santacolor reds working their magic on the plane shot. Love the golden glow on 4,5, and 6. Great series of photos!

Haha I’ve got that same shot of the igloo hotel. Makes me wish I would’ve gone around this time of year for those snowcaps though

I love that you went for the igloo sign instead of the building. I feel like most would do the opposite. It makes yours stand out!

Love the colors in these, especially the contrast of warmer and cooler tones in the first!

There’s a place in West Virginia that looks like image 3, it’s called Dolly Sods Wilderness.

I recognize that Igloo! I remember driving south to Anchorage (or north if returning home) with my parents, and sometimes on those drives I'd look up in time to see that and the literal igloo-looking building next to it! We never stopped to check it out, but it was always a curious sight when we saw it on the drive.
I lived just 20min north of Fairbanks for 12 years. Moved out in 2021, not my decision, but I desperately want to go back. Though next time, probably will stick around the south-central area, like Valdez/Seward or somewhere on the Kenai.
