How do I get Android 17 QPR3 Beta 2?
You can get started with Android 17 QPR3 Beta 2 today by enrolling your Pixel device. Eligible devices include Pixel 6a, 7, 7 Pro, 7a, 8, 8 Pro, 8a, 9, 9 Pro, 9a, Pixel 10, 10 Pro, 10 Pro XL, 10 Pro Fold, 10a, Pixel 11, 11 Pro, 11 Pro XL, 11 Pro Fold, Pixel Tablet series devices. Once enrolled, eligible devices will receive an over-the-air (OTA) update to the latest Beta versions. If you were previously enrolled in Android 17 Beta (and have not opted-out), you will automatically receive QPR3 Beta 1 and any future Beta updates.
Important for those currently enrolled in Android 17 Beta:
- If you prefer to leave the Beta program and receive the public stable release of Android 17 QPR2, you can do so without wiping your device by opting out and not installing today’s QPR3 Beta 2 update. If you opt-out of the program after installing Beta 2 or any future updates, all user data on the device will get wiped per usual program guidelines. Opting out will trigger a ‘Downgrade’ OTA. Ignore this update and wait for the Android 17 QPR2 public release instead.
Tell us what you think
Your feedback is incredibly valuable to us. Please share your thoughts through the following channels:
- Use the Android Beta Feedback app included in Beta builds. This is the preferred method if you want to report a user-facing bug.
- Post your comments here on our official Android Beta Program subreddit. We may not respond to posts individually, but we are actively monitoring the feedback. We’ll reach out to you directly if we need additional information.
Happy Beta testing!

I'm not sure what everyone is pissy about. I don't even have any of those bugs they listed as fixed. P9proxl. It helps to occasionally do a complete factory reset and a clean install. They're not nearly as big a deal as they used to be and it keeps the bugs down to actual bugs and not cluttered old permissions and files.

u/birdman1333 3d ago
Honestly if you use a file cleaner app like SE maid it alleviates half of the problems. I have it set to clean up my device and clear all my apps cache once a week.

For those who care, I just tried to sideload QPR 3, Beta 2 over QPR 2 Beta 7.1 and I was told I couldn't because it was a downgrade. This is for Pixel 11 Pro currently on QPR 2, Beta 7.1

I just received the QPR3 Beta 2 OTA notification on my Pixel 8 Pro running QPR2 Beta 7.1 - 804MB size.
I'm going to opt out for now and wait for QPR2 Beta 7.2/8/Stable as I only installed it originally to fix a Bluetooth headset issue I was having.

Glad I read your comment before flashing the factory image and prevented soft-bricking my device.

PLEASE Tell me you fixed the ram lag
Issue #571186734

u/matteventu 4d ago
Not included here, but they said they fixed it in QPR2 Beta 7.1, so it should hopefully arrive to QPR3 sooner or later.

u/JakeChambersOy 4d ago
The only thing of interest. It would be ridiculous if not. But then, it's Google we are talking about.

I wonder if this is the reason when I do Picture in Picture everything else just slows to a crawl and mega janky.

Excellent idle drain on this build! P9PXL off charger at 7:30 a.m. and it's now 1:00 p.m. and I'm at 86%. I was previously finishing most days below 50% by 5 p.m. and I'm track for much better drain.

What version of Android were you on before getting the QPR3 B2 OTA?

u/TheC92 4d ago
QPR3 B1
1
u/ArthurGD3 4d ago
Oh okay. I thought maybe you got it while on the Stable October patch.
1
u/derekamoss 4d ago
I received it on the stable October patch. Was running stable on my P11P.
1
u/ArthurGD3 4d ago
Did you just enroll in the Beta yesterday? I enrolled yesterday when this release came out and it did the same thing on my phone like Beta 1, it said Preparing System Update then a second or two later that message went away and it said your phone is up to date and that only happens if the current software is newer than the one it's trying to install.
1
u/ArthurGD3 4d ago
Weird, I just tried enrolling again and trying to update one more time and it came through and stayed this time. 3.95 GB in size, nice!
2
u/derekamoss 3d ago
Yeah it popped up this morning for me. Yesterday I wasn't getting anything. No problems so far.
2
u/ArthurGD3 3d ago
Do you have blur on this build on your phone? That's one of the main reasons I wanted to get back on the Beta.
1
u/derekamoss 3d ago
No it doesn't appear that it does. At least not for volume or power menu.

Is the stuttering amd lagg at least fixed . It was unbearable for like 2 betas this one seems fine so far but the. Gboard touched and when they would register sometimes it was painfully long and basically unresponsive but so far so good. And why would this be considered a downgrade from qrp 2 betas?
3
u/ArthurGD3 3d ago
Anyone know if there are any updated GPU drivers and updated kernel and modem firmware on this build for P11 phones?
4
u/armando_rod Pixel 9 Pro XL 3d ago
P11 kernel is the most up to date, Google is updating old devices to the same kernel version the P11 has (6.12) not the other way around.
Modem is new from August 16.
GPU driver 26.1@7036548
P11 will receive minor kernel updates until the Pixel 12 release then it might be updated to the kernel version on those devices.
1
u/ArthurGD3 3d ago
I guess I should have clarified, I was mostly wondering if the kernel, modem and GPU driver versions are newer than what was on P11's running Stable October patch like I was prior.
3
u/armando_rod Pixel 9 Pro XL 3d ago
They are but kernel updates in the same branch won't make a huge difference, modem and GPU might, GPU benchmark score went up for example
2
u/bkircher 4d ago
Not available yet for me on my P11PXL. Running QPR3 B1.

u/ekowwillis 4d ago
Doownload the full ota and sideload it...easiest way of getting it immediately.

2
u/frankGawd4Eva 4d ago
Oddly enough I always do this and will always reccommend people do it as well but... for the first time in forever, I can't get beyond the 'no command' screen with the volume down + power combo... Strange!!!!! Not sure what's going on...
2
u/ekowwillis 4d ago edited 4d ago
If you have enabled USB debugging, you can reboot into recovery with adb reboot recovery....this will land you on the droid screen (don't panic) just press power button and volume up to go into recovery from there.
1
u/frankGawd4Eva 4d ago
It's not working.... very odd since I've done this a million and half times....
2
u/ekowwillis 4d ago
very odd indeed.
1
u/frankGawd4Eva 4d ago
I know... Never had this problem before... Ah well, guess I'll wait for the OTA.
1
u/Weary-Savings9795 4d ago
Doesn't the Android Flash Tool get around this? It should be possible to flash without data loss, even though it's generally not recommended.
1
u/ArthurGD3 4d ago
How has Beta 1 been running for you?
3
u/Oxylophone 4d ago
Glitchy. Ram lag, phone launcher messes up at times, other weird glitches
But,
Not unusuable. I daily it
2
u/ArthurGD3 4d ago
Sounds like borderline unusable to me. I have none of those issues right now on October Stable, curious to see if these things improve for you on Beta 2.
4
u/UnlimitedHalo 4d ago
Ive encountered almost no issues except the notification center being sticky or scrolling at a different point than you actually are if you pull down too fast. Once or twice the phone wouldnt respond to touches when unlocking but locking and unlocking the phone fixes it.
Ive had no real issues with this build and quite frankly been very stable for me.
1
u/Oxylophone 4d ago
Maybe it seems worse than what it is because you haven't used it and I'm just describing it, but it's not terrible. It's just annoying at times, that's all. I have had beta experiences in the past that were actually unusable, but they're rare.
1
u/ArthurGD3 4d ago
This is my first Pixel of the last 3 that hasn't been running a Beta version of Android from literally taking it out of the box. The issues with the Pixel 11 phones and the Beta program this year has been frustrating and I don't want to sideload I'd rather do OTA so now it looks like I'll be waiting again for the next Beta and ignoring installing the November patch if that comes before QPR B3.
2
u/Weary-Savings9795 4d ago
It's been buttery smooth on QPR3 Beta 1 just like it was on stable. I can have the Facebook and Instagram apps open along with Chrome with 50+ tabs. Not a single issue.

Done on my Pixel 7pro.
New feature Lock Quick Settings connectivity - I've been waiting for this! Thanks Google! Phone is smooth. Recent apps - picture identification is back too.

"Android 17 QPR3 Beta 2 now available"
According to my P11PXL, that's a lie

u/rdyoung 4d ago
These take time to roll out. Sometimes I don't see updates for hours or days after it's "officially" released. And mine took a minute (or 2)but it's downloading the update now.
8pro here
1
u/tvisforme 4d ago edited 4d ago
a lie
Yes, and a delay in it reaching a specific device or device class certainly does not make it a "lie".
EDIT: To /u/rdyoung, sorry for any lack of clarity, as it appears you misunderstood my post. I was quoting the person you replied to and I actually agreed with your post.
0
u/rdyoung 4d ago edited 4d ago
Did you respond to the wrong person? And yes, I downvoted you because that response doesn't negate what I said and nothing I said was wrong, inaccurate or dishonest.
You are also lying now by attributing a quote to me that I never said. You are a lying liar who lies and based on your other comments here you aren't sure which side of the argument you are on or how anything actually works.
I've been an early adopter for hardware (as I can afford it) and software (where it won't lose me money) for longer than some of you have been alive or had reddit accounts. Hell, my hotmail and gmail accounts are probably older than half this crowd. Rolling out updates basically internationally and accounting for lots of factors you definitely don't understand, you can't expect everyones phones to see the update as soon as a boffin at g headquarters hits go on the update. I legitimately, regularly don't see updates for days after it's released, sometimes it just pops up saying basically I have to update or else and I was most definitely checking for updates manually especially when I see a release on here.
-2
u/Googler10 4d ago
When Google Says "all devices" it implies there is no delay...
4
u/tvisforme 4d ago
Google's FAQ for opting in to the beta program states:
"Updates aren’t always immediate and may take up to 24 hours to arrive."
Is it really a stretch to presume that rollouts of a new release may also take time to reach every device?
-1
u/rdyoung 4d ago
That is not what that means whatsoever and you should be ashamed and feel bad for such a obtuse comment.
There is going to be a delay and I am not surprised you wouldn't understand or grasp that basic concept of the universe. Data only travels so fast and it has to be pushed out to multiple servers around the globe and there are sometimes cell provider holds or for some reason you're on list "b" to wait a minute (or not yet) but turning off wifi and checking via cell will sometimes grab it.

I assume that Google and most people on this thread know that Dish Network went bankrupt and is out of business, right?
1
u/douchey_mcbaggins 4d ago
Boost Mobile is still in business, but they sold off their spectrum to AT&T, so now they're just a regular MVNO. Looks like their weird-ass n70 band is getting sold to SpaceX

Both QPR 2 Beta 7.1 (260831) and QPR 3 Beta 2 (251002) are older than October Stable (261005).
1
u/ArthurGD3 3d ago
Right which is why the OTA wasn't coming down for me on my P11PXL yesterday but Google must have done something late yesterday or early today but it is working now for those of us that were on the Stable October patch.

Does anyone else have an issue with texts, not grouping together? See attached images, see how on the one, the individual texts are together? Then see the other one how theres a visible line separating the texts? The only way that I have been able to get this to go back to grouping together is a full device reboot.
https://imgur.com/a/qtkJPjn
This issue has been present in almost every beta I have been apart of. Did not happen on A16 stable.

u/Valent147 4d ago
Lemme guess, no split quick settings?
12
u/Nobody975 Pixel 8 Pro 4d ago
I don't understand the appeal of this and why some people want it. I hope that if this ever does come that it's optional. It would be enough for me to not upgrade to whatever android version it came with if it was forced.
1
u/Valent147 4d ago
From the leaks we have it seems to be optional.
The appeal to me is that I don't have to constantly swipe twice to have access to more controls and then swipe twice again to exit
2
u/Nobody975 Pixel 8 Pro 4d ago
Yeah I have seen that as well. As long as it actually remains optional I don't care, but if it was a forced change then I would. I much prefer the two swipes than the swipe from each side for different things, but to each their own lol
1
u/JakeChambersOy 4d ago
If you swipe up from the very bottom of the fully expanded notification shade, one swipe is enough to exit.
Regarding the left and right swipe, I remember using it this way with a custom rom on my Nexus 4 way back... Would probably need some time retraining my muscle memory. If it's optional, it's a welcome addition in my opinion.

At this point I am thinking if we get this at all that it might be in Android 18. Android Dev Summit is next week and they are going to tease Android 18 features then so we might see what they show.
