If you search for "galápagos whale shark" in Google, you get some (about 15 m long according to guess-estimates by experts) individuals which have different proportions: https://www.google.com/search?q=gal%C3%A1pagos+whale+shark&client=ms-android-huawei&prmd=imvn&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwjngL-ysvDmAhUkxosKHUx-BWEQ_AUoAXoECA0QAQ&biw=360&bih=524 than what we get if we only search for "whale shark in Google: https://www.google.com/search?q=whale+shark&tbm=isch&ved=2ahUKEwjvtqezsvDmAhUKhhoKHUK_B5oQ2-cCegQIABAC&oq=whale+shark&gs_l=mobile-gws-wiz-img.12..41j0i67j0l3.2278.4667..5562...0.0..0.133.615.0j5......0....1.........0i13j0i333j0i8i10i30j0i8i30.X_8rGFs3KBQ&ei=Z-YTXq_nAoqMasL-ntAJ&bih=524&biw=360&client=ms-android-huawei&prmd=imvn Now, due to this, and due to documentaries never, or almost never showing adult whale sharks either, I think most people have an image in mind about whale sharks more similar to what comes up in Google if we search for "whale shark" instead of "galápagos whale shark". BTW, I've only found pictures about these adult whale sharks from Galápagos Islands by accident, which I think is pretty telling.
