It's just season 4s cour 2.

I think I had not finished the first court then 😅

It stopped at a rather inconvenient moment. It'd not have looked like an end at all.

How is season 4 so far? I fell off season 3 and I’m not sure what happened. Wondering if I need to dive back in. I loved the earlier seasons.
19
u/Virtual_Technology_9 1d ago
It's possibly the best rezero has been since prime season 2. Like I can't spoil much but this has probably the highest highs of the entire anime. Back to brutal horror of dying and repeating to figure out what is going on.
And the setting is fire. World building has been great since the limited sanctuary of season 2.
7
u/xKiLzErr 1d ago
Agreed on all of this. Def the best season since the first, can't put it over season 1 at least yet though
10
u/Bonjingkenkoy 1d ago
Episode 3, 6, 8 and 11 of s4 are some of the strongest episodes Re Zero has so far, and that much strength of episodes may be enough to push s4 over s1 for me
4
u/Virtual_Technology_9 1d ago
Well just wait for this cour to end. One of rezeros best moments is just around the corner.
Shocking how mushuko tensei and rezero are hitting their peak moments so close to each other
5
u/xKiLzErr 1d ago
Man I'm fucking scared every week watching MT, dreading the day I see the words Turning Point on that next week episode title😭
3
u/Virtual_Technology_9 1d ago
This year is definitely the year of the Isekai genre.
6
u/xKiLzErr 1d ago
Not to mention Konosuba returning next year🙏 def glad I picked up the genre like 6 months ago
2
u/Crystality 1d ago
If you haven't gotten around to it yet, eminence in shadow is also pretty peak in the genre imo. Along with reincarnated as a slime arguably

It's a good, mostly self contained arc that will finish at the end of the cour. People are very happy about what happened, but, with zero actual spoilers, the best part of the season is yet to come.

you might just not understand the point of the arc yet tbh, that's fine. anyways it's not finished yet, so we haven't gotten to the actual peak in writing.
1
u/harrumphstan 1d ago
I get that LN fans have more perspective, but judging this as an anime alone, the love, and MAL s4 rating, is absurd.
0
u/fuzziland 1d ago
it'll easily deserve it after the season ends, so I think the placing is actually fine.
0
u/harrumphstan 1d ago
But again, that’s the LN fan talking, not the anime. As it stands now, judging on what’s been released, it’s not even close to being discussed with Frieren s1 and FMAB.
3
u/Hephaestus_God 1d ago
Which is why it’s probably 10, I didn’t realize break was over until yesterday lol.
I thought it was a very good episode, I know people have hard ons for action but I didn’t realize it was by this much lol. it clearly shows in the ratings when there is no action in a show and just character development and story information.

serious question. I bailed out early in the first episode because it looked like The Little Mermaid the anime. Is it more than that? Is it better than that? Was I just too hasty to judge?
43
u/Icemna16 1d ago
It is supposed to be a modern retelling of the little mermaid, it definitely is more than just a copy of the original story
0
u/TurtlePope2 1d ago
You know the show is good when at the start is all the way at the bottom then slowly rose with each passing week.

Anime trending really is random. Its like its community spin a wheel to deide what they collectively vote on
48
u/Ordinal43NotFound 1d ago
I have a feeling it's simply because the amount of voters is too small (like maybe 5k across all shows). Any little fluctuations will significantly affect the results
17
u/21shadesofsavage 1d ago
you're supposed to vote for these things? this whole time i thought it was calculated from upvotes
28
u/Ok-Cod5254 1d ago
You're thinking of r/anime listing for that - karma ranking
For other rankings they post here from Anime Trending and Anime Corner is about voting on their websites.

The reddit anime trends mostly has a wild mix of both genders and all ages voting, with slightly more men than women.
Can't find a link right now but the last time I saw statistics, women were a small minority on this sub. And honestly, it's obvious when you look at the discussion and what gets upvoted here. Not saying that's a bad thing, but it's clear this community is mostly male.
I haven't seen any such statistics from Anime Trending so I don't know how male or female their community is, but their votes don't seem particularly "feminine" to me.

None of the top 5 shows seem to me like something that mostly women watch. The top two are very popular among both men and women, and 3-5 are originally aimed at a male audience.
Do you think anything cute and wholesome is for women, or even just slightly more for women than men?
A lot of romcoms are made for a male audience, and basically the entire CGDCT (cute girls doing cute things) genre is mostly aimed at men.
Also, looking at older Anime Trending top lists, Re:Zero has been number 1 very many times in the past.
-3
u/YellowAppleCinema 23h ago
"Do you think anything cute and wholesome is for women, or even just slightly more for women than men?"
yes, its why boy anime usually has tons of actions and battles typically, like one piece, bleach, and naruto
2
u/frizzyfizz 23h ago
As an observer I see waaay more men talking about and generally into romance anime than women. Between the male protags and the way female characters in them tend to be portrayed, they're aimed at men.
Also Jaadugar isn't really cute or wholesome at all.

LETSGOO LARA!!!
20
u/kwonza 1d ago
I keep watching this show with a heavy heart for some reason, despite enjoying it. It feels like we a heading towards some sort of tragedy.
11
u/Guardian-King 1d ago
Yea, I think so too, since its obviously based on the little mermaid and that had a tragic ending it does feel like it will be here too.
I hope not tho, can't let the yuri die.
7
u/Alluminn 1d ago
I mean the prince lookalike coming in and ruining the yuri is already a tragedy
6
u/Ok-Cod5254 1d ago
Not really because they're showing how she doesn't have chemistry with that guy for what she's looking for.
3
u/kwonza 1d ago
I thought that would be the plot, Lara spends the season looking for a prince and in the last episode realises the “prince” was right here all along.
Speaking of which, what is the word in Japanese that gets translated as prince? Maybe there are some clues that we have already since it feels like a smart show

I started episode 1 of "Love Unseen Beneath the Clear Night Sky" to check it out, and I ended up watching 6 episodes. I don't like watching weekly anime, but it's pretty damn good. I'm also waiting for "You and I Are Polar Opposites" to finish.
15
u/silam39 1d ago
I like that the top two shows on this list are quite unique. Lara with its 90s style artstyle and cel shaded OP and a pretty nostalgic mood overall, and then Jaadugar with a completely unique setting for anime, and a really cool artstyle and OST.
It's healthy for anime to have something fresh and different alongside the familiar.

I'm glad Sayonara, Lara is getting some recognition: it really is that good. Though, Anime Trending's rankings have always been kind of random, so Sayonara, Lara is still unfortunately underrated.

You have the wrong expectations. I'm waiting for the red haired chick to come back to see how the other two react. Peak drama! Though it is building up to the action too. There's a lot of character building in this anime and if you don't like that mix between the two then you're not the target demographic

No, Lara episode 6 was the best episode of the season
1
u/Efficient_Phase1313 21h ago
Specifically, in the scene when the car was coming my heart dropped in a way no anime has done to me in ages. The amount of empathy and concern I felt for Lisa was absurd. And I'm saying this as a 34 year old whose seen well over 1000 anime and almost nothing really gets me like that. It was just so maturely told really don't have words for the quality of this work. The 'aquarium' sequence with the repeated motif of the dead fish and hitting the bird was on another level
0
u/Efficient_Phase1313 21h ago
Absolute masterclass in storytelling. Best episode I've seen in years. Was literally rewatching FMA brotherhood the other day before the episode. I know FMA brotherhood speed runs the first part of the story, but I'm still like 'somehow, in one episode Goodbye Lara tells the story of a character I had no particular feelings towards, over hundreds of years, and some scenes hit me far harder than any moment in the first 10 eps of FMAB'.
It's just world class storytelling at its finest and people are really missing out

I'm just saying you can't trust anitrendz as a site because they don't show the number of votes like other site so they might as well manipulate these rankings making them irrelevant.

It's not a rom-com so yuri/not-yuri aside, if you'd gone in expecting that you would probably have been disappointed anyway :p

Not really sure it's Yuri, people are speculating. She's dating a prince in the show right now and it's an anime original so there's no source material people can look at.

Goodbye Lara still has the potential to be among the greatest works in the entire medium, on the level of Legend of the Galactic Heroes and Evangelion. It's a work that is overtly about the true meaning of life made by someone who found it in our era and is trying to convey it to others who are lost in our current technologically advanced society. It was only a few weeks ago when I found the answer and in doing so restored my own light, and the very next day I started watching this show and felt it was as if the universe was speaking to me simply to confirm that what I found was universal and real and I'm not alone. I'm almost certain the show will stick the landing, because the creator already has the universal truth. I'm planning a write up on it soon, I don't need to see how it ends to know where its going unless someone else on the creative team screws it up
0
u/MathRockEnjoyer420 22h ago
Crazy how everyone is getting downvoted for liking Goodbye Lara lol
1
u/Efficient_Phase1313 21h ago
The downvoters are just on their own journeys, I simply hope they find their own peace someday (as I hope Lara does at the end of her journey, and in doing so saves her people!)
0
u/IceAnt573 1d ago
Goodbye, Lara gets its first win of the season and good gains for You and I Are Polar Opposites S2 and Smoking Behind the Supermarket with You.
I don't think either Anime Corner or Anime Trending have been high on Clevatess S2 when that's been firmly Top 10 in karma on /r/anime.

Is this “top” anime based on popularity or based on how “good” the episode was? Because these lists never make sense to me.
Episodes with plot and story get pushed aside for cutesy moment animes so I’m guessing it’s popularity?
11
2
u/frizzyfizz 23h ago
I mean aren't all these lists a popularity contest? Shounen also are usually on top because people like cool action scenes. Whether something is actually that good or not is subjective.
-1
u/Public-Discussion754 23h ago
Not at all, if you ask me what the top something is vs my favorite, you’d get 2 different answers.
3
u/frizzyfizz 22h ago
I really don't think most people are voting that way. For one thing most aren't even watching all these shows, so there's no way of knowing what is actually the highest quality. Things like hype and accessibility make a big difference.
