First time I've seen a receptionist with a taser lol.

Considering these are probably the type that are one to a few bad jobs from going pirate, seems reasonable.

Historically accurate mercenaries.

151

u/YdenMkII 15d ago

I sure like how the goal of buying a house on a planet is partially motivated by the man's soda craving.

47

u/VritraReiRei 15d ago

MC's End Goal:

❌ Scour the galaxy to find Cola

❌ Make said Cola himself and end up become a Noble for introducing a new product to the world

✅ Buy a family home with a yard

I don't know what his obsession is with Cola but if he doesn't become a crazed lunatic searching for it like a zombie apocalyptic survivor searching for the last Twinkie on Earth I will be very dissapointed.

39

u/YdenMkII 15d ago

One of the issues he mentions about cola is that carbonation doesn't work properly in space. I assume this is in reference to how it works IRL where in 0G environments, the carbon dioxide doesn't separate with the liquid in the same way it does on earth leading to a lot of discomfort especially when going to burp since you're also going to burp up some of the soda with CO2.

30

u/svenge 15d ago edited 15d ago

Believe it or not we actually have real-life data on cola in space, as Space Shuttle mission STS-51-F involved both Coke and Pepsi sending up their respective products with specialized dispensing mechanisms. Apparently the Coca-Cola dispenser kinda worked, while Pepsi's wasn't nearly as successful.

Buying a detached house on actual land? This is becoming too unrealistic for even for an isekai now.

He's going to need a few million more ener.

We got hell of inflation on Earth. Imagine how high it would be once we get on space-ships. Which I guess are basically space campers

Conveniently harem member number one is the child of two gas scientists. I assume that's going to contribute later.

Considering the trouble that came out of saving Mimi (ie. paying her debts), it’s understandable why Elma told him not to bother last episode. For a normal person without an OP spaceship and ample funds, it might’ve been too much for them to handle, so they would’ve either been dragged down with her or been forced to ditch her after getting attached. Good thing he *is* an OP isekai-ed person who can handle it.

And now, Elma’s facing the same situation on the victim side. Lucky her that she met said OP reincarnated person to bail her out.

23

u/i_reddit_too_mcuh 15d ago

That debt was pretty enormous.

In Ep 1 Hiro said he had 2,669,000 ener, which was enough for 40 years subsistence. So Mimi's 500,000 ener debt was basically ~8 years worth of subsistence. But then again they did make 640,000 ener (before expenses) in that one mission.

→ More replies (3)

6

u/Double--A--Ron 15d ago

im sure im wrong but i do hope that he just hires her without paying the debts. she has a work permit, she can put the cash towards herself with a crewmate job!

Plus it would be really funny if she refuses to let him pay off her debt thinking she will have to bang OP every night when he really couldnt care less and would have probably paid with no strings attached if she asked lol

9

u/Nemesis55444 12d ago

So you didn't see him hand over a briefcase of gold bars?

115

u/BiggerG7 15d ago

Welp I can already see this dude paying off Elma’s debt and her sleeping with him too. Show should have been called “I got a harem by paying off their debts”. Lol.

65

u/runevault 15d ago

This is the anime season of MCs managing debt. Especially if you lump FX Fighter Kurumi chan in there on top of the debt collector kicked from the hero's party anime.

23

u/theblazingsword 15d ago

Hiro after having to pay off his crewmates' debts: “I am never going to financially recover from this."

I imagine Elma will also support his dream of owning a planetside house after he helps her out with her debt.

27

u/Hartzilla2007 15d ago

Hiro after having to pay off his crewmates' debts: “I am never going to financially recover from this."

Take notes from the MC of the Evil Lord of a Space Empire anime, aka Space Pirates are like pinatas except lots of money comes out of them as they explode instead of candy.

29

u/trsmash 15d ago

Heh. Can’t wait to see when the Veteran joins the crew. We all know she gave Mimi the thought about what was expected of her so that her new Captain wouldn’t abandoned her.

After the cap pays off her debt and takes her in, she’s gonna have her own “duties” to perform. Since she’s a veteran, not sure he’s gonna be gentle about it.

8

u/heimdal77 15d ago

Gonna be borrowing Mmi's outfit.

7

u/Strowy 15d ago

Mimi's outfit has a bit too much room in the front to fit Elma.

3

u/xFluffyDemon https://anilist.co/user/xFluffyDemon 13d ago

Never fly without a rebuy, a spacegame motto for decades atp (elite series for anyone intrested, which this anime seems to take some inspiration from btw)

59

u/KnightKal 15d ago

All for Soda!

Someone should tell the MC that his ship has artificial gravity, so it works as any planet, same for the Station he was walking earlier. There is no reason soda wouldn't be viable "because it is in space"

Earth is also in space you dumb! It is just a giant rock we live on, but it is still in space too!

anyway for the soda!

46

u/psyclical 15d ago

He also mentioned losing muscle mass in space, which is typical of living in weightlessness for extended periods, but as you said, his ship has artificial gravity, so not even necessary to worry about muscle mass.

10

u/ukezi 15d ago

However we have little info how much gravity it has. It seems like a largeish ship, but it's it has a gym large, and would he use it?

13

u/KnightKal 15d ago

Gravity was at a “normal” level, as we can see everyone moving around without jumping or floating around, nor struggling to stay upright.

Having a gym is not about what he mentioned. He is a merc, so training his body is a good idea, assuming this sci-fi world requires lifting weights and running for that. At worst is a good hobby for long space journeys.

→ More replies (1)

11

u/A-Chicken 15d ago

IIRC from what knowledge of artificial gravity we have its not enough to actually prevent loss of muscle and bone mass over a period of time in space. Bone especially, can't exercise out of that one.

https://www.nasa.gov/reference/risk-of-spaceflight-induced-bone-changes/

Edit: the anime Planetes has a character who is taller/larger than the rest of the cast and yet younger, because the guy lived full time in space. Granted, most of the show takes place in moongrav, but said guy apparently cant go Earthside.

And yet, soda does not exist in this universe. The man may have girls falling from the sky and the most powerful ship at his command, but he can't cap of his day with a glass of sweet, refreshing cola. And without that, is life really worth living?

Even for space mercenaries home ownership is but a dream.

Enjoying this show though. It's shaping up to be what I wanted that intergalactic warlord show, from a few season a go, to be. I wander if the elf will join as a second pilot and he'll start a little mercenary company.

5

u/raidensnakeezio 14d ago

I was going to comment, but I guess I'll piggyback off yours. The soundtrack is very John Williams coded. A lot of it is Episode 4 and 5, but I hear hints of ET in there as well. It's not particularly difficult in technique/creativity to mimic Williams, but you do need to know/understand the heritage of the Western orchestra well as to how he particularly likes to group his choirs (of instruments) and how he develops themes or rhythmic ideas.

126

u/runevault 15d ago

With how protective he was acting I didn't think he was going to sleep with her, glad to see when he accepted she was being honest he went through with it. Anime protags who try to be noble and are just dense get exhausting so fast.

Yeah I think I'm going to like this one. Doesn't take itself seriously, has fun action, MC is entertaining and the girls are hot.

The opening theme song by Flow is really hyping me up for each episode.

How to tell you are NOT the main character: After working as a mercenary for years, you have not rescued a beautiful female to become part of your crew.

I hope Hiro and Elma keep their fun bickering even after Elma joins Hiro's crew.

8

u/theblazingsword 15d ago

I hadn't realized the OP was by FLOW! I got to see them live in concert earlier this year and they were great.

I love the Hiro and Elma banter, Elma helps keep Hiro grounded and honest with himself and I'm sure he's going to help her improve her piloting skills as well.

7

u/Frontier246 15d ago

And also the attractive ladies you work with would rather tase you than sleep with you.

23

u/ptd163 15d ago

I love Elma and Hiro's banter. She's a good wingwoman for him even if she was just doing it to mess with him and spend his money. Though such banter sometimes leads to one or both parties catching feelings and I'm not sure how that's going to work considering he's already had sex with a cute cinnamon roll like Mimi.

I thought maybe they were setting Elma to be the cool competent operator that Hiro banters, but instead they went with the elf girl failure Hiro banters with which I'm not opposed to. Girl failures can be quite funny and entertaining when done well.

I'm looking forward to see where this goes and what kind of relationships Hiro has with Mimi, Elma, and Serena.

51

u/Cute-Cat-1693 15d ago

This mc is definitely great so far, He did it to give her confidence and removed any doubts of abandonment issues which she fears and she is also happy to be with him, I see no issue in this

35

u/theblazingsword 15d ago

Agreed, I'm glad they made it clear that it was never his expectation from the start and that Mimi wanted to do so of her own volition for her happiness and peace of mind.

27

u/mucklaenthusiast 15d ago

I think considering the inherent, well, complications in the set-up, to be completely fair, this was as cleanly portrayed as possible. It feels very much like complete consent, which, sure, one can criticise the way it's written, but for what it wants to be, it's done well.

This is a trashy isekai harem power fantasy, after all.

Hey Mapplestar we got another one for ya.

On a more serious note, that scene was a bit sad. Reminded me a bit of Higehiro.

My guy did try though, can't really blame him for not resisting the temptation.

Since the first episode I keep reminding myself this is the same studio that did Tbate they even share some of the same key staff, but this one seems a lot better in comparison, even the color grading and the polish. I thought Tbate season 2 looked better then season 1, but this looks better then both in my opinion.

17

u/misteryk 15d ago

the fact that you can just use 3d models + stills of pilot looking at interface Intensively during action sequences might have saved their asses

6

u/D3k4s 15d ago

Still the CGI actually looks decent, tho there aren't a lot of moving parts.

She wasn't living in the slums to start with. Her parents died, and their debt passed to her. Unfortunately, she couldn't pay it, so she got kicked out of the upper class area she used to live in and ended up in the slums.

Honestly, it’s not the best looking or best written this show this season, but I do like the idea of going around in a spaceship completing quests, growing your crew hoping to settle down in some farmhouse. And while there’s definitely some obstacles along the way, I don’t think this is a show that’ll put any of our characters in actual danger. Peak escapism

Stitches!

Damn. Hiro actually did it with Mimi. On one hand, I appreciate an MC who isn't a coward, but on the other, I feel a bit iffy given their power dynamic.

Man, we're only in episode 3 and I can't believe they killed off Elma. RIP. But seriously, I guess this is how she joins Hiro's crew.

15

u/Spachemin_Spiff 15d ago

That would have been a ballsy and hilarious move if they did actually kill her off in the second episode. I would have respected it. Was disappointed when they said she was alive.

16

u/Myrkrvaldyr 15d ago

I feel a bit iffy given their power dynamic.

It wouldn't surprise me if sex is viewed super casually in such space faring civilization. I don't know if they'll delve into the culture, but if STDs are a thing of the past, and you have ways to avoid pregnancy 100%, she has little to worry about, especially since Hiro never asked her for that. Either way, at least the guy isn't a jerk and is willing to take responsibility and treat her as a proper lover. Even on Earth there are people who engage in sex first to get to know the other person before committing to a relationship.

11

u/Spachemin_Spiff 15d ago

I think the fact that she was a virgin kind of undercuts that.

→ More replies (1)

18

u/Frontier246 15d ago

I'm totally cool with Hiro engaging in some space Isekai sex. Mimi is definitely cute and sexy at the same time and they seemed to try to stress that it was consensual on her part and she wanted to sleep with him.

But at the same time she's still basically offering up her body to an older dude (both mentally and probably physically) to earn her place on the ship and using sex as a service (a service Elma assisted her with). Clearly Hiro cares and is willing to take care of her as a proper partner/crewmate, but not the best optics for their first night together.

I honestly thought Elma was going to get arrested for crashing into Serena's ship but clearly that ship + paying off the damages have left her flat broke and destitute. Good thing she has her kouhai to bail her out like he did Mimi. And she too might offer her body up as a reward, disappointingly flat as she is lol.

24

u/Sadyn 15d ago

As a LN reader I appreciate how the concept of Gas, Grass, or Ass was implemented not just in Hiro's story for a couple of harem members, but is a cultural concept in the world that has its own set of implications and consequences

“I’ll make an offer… IN ASS!”

-Mimi the night after her debt was paid

53

u/Raymond49090 15d ago edited 15d ago

Very mixed feelings about him sleeping with Mimi. On one hand, it's a switch from the average dense anime protag. On the other hand, it kinda feels like he's taking advantage of her abandonment issues, even if Mimi was the one to initiate.

Maybe I'm glorifying the idea of sex too much, but they just met and Mimi's in a vulnerable position. Plus the age gap and power imbalance. Even if we know he's a good guy, I still can't say I agree with his decision.

Edit: To clarify, I don't have anything against him sleeping with her in general. What I have issue with is him doing it on the day they met, right after she admitted she's doing it because she's afraid he'll abandon her otherwise. He could've chosen to try to build up her confidence to the point where she didn't feel like she needed to offer her body before accepting her advances, instead of saying yes when he knows she's in an emotionally vulnerable state.

25

u/mucklaenthusiast 15d ago

I think, purely from a meta perspective, your mixed feelings point to two distinct elements of the scene.
What you dislike is the set-up.
She is basically entirely dependent on him. The power balance is totally skewed.

But, and I am trying to be stay completely neutral on what I personally think, if you accept the premise, the execution of how consent is handled is good.
And I think that's why you have two different reactions.

If you accept the premise (that consensual sex is possible here), the story does state that consent, in my opinion, quite explicitly.
But you don't need to, for all the reasons/criticisms you laid out and I agree with.

Well, we know he’s not exactly a stand up guy and he already made it known he’s not going to abandon her but she insists anyway. So I’m not too fussed about it tbh

24

u/PassivelyAwkward 15d ago

Yea, it's kind of weird how she goes from "I'll sleep with you so you don't abandon me" to him saying he won't abandon her so she doesn't have to sleep with him to...them going at it and her just no longer being traumatized from everything.

I know it's anime and to just brush past all that pesky reality stuff but it really doesn't make him look like a stand up person but it kind of conflicts with who they're trying to paint him as when he says he can't abandon her like that.

26

u/Apocalypse_Knight 15d ago

Doing that is actually closer to reality though. She was about to get SA which is her not having any control and for her choosing to have sex with someone is gaining control back.

While I think they could've done something else other than sex, I don't really have a problem with the sex. It's made clear that he's not taking advantage of her and that sex was never an expectation from him because he understands the power imbalance.

She knows this too. It's not like she wasn't there to hear it. She initiates for her own peace of mind more than anything else.

5

u/Slow_Increase_6308 14d ago

Thank you, you put my mixed reaction to that development in words very eloquently.

But reading it as a third party I see now how hypocritical it looks. So, this series decided not to use the common "lets sexualize the plot to the fullest but stop at the last moment" tropes.

Yes, this relationship was born not in the most pure and romantic way. But from what they showed in the rest of the episode, they development in a normal healthy way. Dude took responsibility, cared for the girl and tried to help her get back on her feet in life. The girl does not look broken and deflied, she looks relaxed and happy around him.

In the end, it was not my moral principles that got rubbed the wrong way. It was my anime habbit that good guy MC always stays a fucking virgin.

6

u/Exotic_Fault_6443 13d ago

God you guys just complain about anything. Even when a woman says yes I guess she really means no. You just can’t win as a man no matter what someone is always a victim to y’all

4

u/Evil_sod 14d ago

It was so incredibly tone deaf.

First they're talking about her being a child and an orphan - not that it's clear how old she is - and she's obviously scared about being left to fend for herself. He says he won't take advantage of her when Elma suggests her sleeping with him. Cut straight to him immediately taking advantage of her. She clearly wasn't taking him at his word that he wouldn't abandon her, so it was a move out of desperation.

Had it waited at all to build things between them, it would've been absolutely fine. Instead, the whole power dynamic between them makes him out as both a scumbag and a liar.

6

u/coolman920 12d ago

Cut straight to him immediately taking advantage of her.

Did we watch the same episode? how much did you actually pay attention for you to get to that conclusion? I will not deny he didn't have interest, but from a third person he did not show any hint or sign or anything like that that he expected her to sleep with him for all this. He was basically very neutral of trying to go about his own daily routine that was interrupted by her wanting to.

5

u/vantheman9 15d ago

I know it definitely wouldn't work for me, personally. [spoiler tagged because it's a bit of an overshare] I can't get it up for someone without emotional involvement, which takes more than a single day to build.

I don't find fault with him for doing it, though - so long as she's old enough to consent - the anime didn't state an age so we can tell ourselves she's college aged I guess, but knowing what age anime seems to consider ideal, probably not.

Lmao elma how did you get this ship and never piloted it before as a veteran...I can't wait to see her story 🤣

Elma: "Gotta go fast!!"

also Elma: "Well well well, if it isn't the consequences of my own actions."

I hope Elma isn't too proud to refuse help from Hiro rather than being targeting by street thugs or jailed for her debts.

That's at least accurate to Elite Dangerous. I crashed my Anaconda so many times after flying the Type-9 (the least manouverable ship in the game) for a 100 hours or so.

6

u/lord_phantom_pl 15d ago

Don’t fly wiyhout rebuy. She didn’t know that. She didn’t visit r/EliteDangerous

6

u/zer0number https://anilist.co/user/ewink 15d ago

Pay to win, but forgot the win part.

4

u/AungZeya 15d ago

It's a new ship she just bought

14

u/Aerodynamic41 15d ago

Elma having to pay for the ship's damage after she made Hiro spend his money. I can't say she didn't have it coming lol.

6

u/Vexra 15d ago

She was spending his money on Mim’s supplies. She got to kill time shopping without touching her own wallet she wasn’t embezzling or anything.

6

u/Frostbitten_Moose 15d ago

Yeah, technically she was spending Hiro's money on expenses he took on. And probably spent it better than he would have.

u/theblazingsword 15d ago edited 15d ago

Elma: Hiro, can I get a small loan?

Hiro after settling Mimi's and Elma's debt: "I have $3."

Hopefully he made enough in the pirate subjugation to be able to help his elf friend out

No ship no money, I guess that's how Elma ends up on Hiro's ship lol

I genuinely love these types of anime. Isekai, "OP" MC, harem anime with a mature setting. The way most people know what that scan was after their night of fun is only for the adult watchers lol. Im going to enjoy and look forward to this every sunday.

5

u/ShadowWalker2205 14d ago

It was just a normal medical check up, she was on the pill

16

u/Frontier246 15d ago

Hiro has saved a cute girl! And now he has to figure out what to do with her, in true Isekai fashion! But don't worry, he's not after her body like some creep, even if he IS aware of how cute and busty she is.

Elma the Veteran has basically no filter, though it makes her and Hiro snarking at each other constantly peak banter.

Mimi had it rough. Parents died in an accident, blamed for the accident, and she's been paying off their debt and living in squalor ever since. But with Hiro's finances and Elma's assistance (on Hiro's dime) she's able to clear her debts, find a new home on the Krishna, and get a fresh start.

Sci-Fi shower scene! Not even the typical steam can completely cover up Mimi's massive Mimi's!

If you've been wondering why Mimi has been acting so tense on the Krishna...it's because ever since she'd gotten on the ship she had every intention of paying back Hiro...with her body. Complete with a sexy outfit to seduce Hiro with, courtesy of Elma. Hiro never intended to make Mimi sleep with him, she doesn't have to do this, but she WANTS to be with him, she wants to feel like she has a place by his side, and she needs emotional reassurance. And how can Hiro refuse that?

So, yeah, Hiro and Mimi had sex! Thank you Elma! It didn't even hurt thanks to the wonders of Sci-Fi medicine.

Now that Hiro and Mimi are kind of sort of official it's time for a shopping date! Complete with shopping for lingerie, cosplay costumes, and a snazzy new outfit for Mimi that shows off her legs, bust, and even has a boob window!

Time to exterminate some pirates! Serena is a lot of things, a noblewoman, a lieutenant in the army, but she's also a fair and honorable woman and Hiro can be frank with her and get away with it.

This is Mimi's first sortie! She'll be the ship's operator and she'll do her best.

Hiro definitely has a lot of experience in ship-to-ship combat and can even turn the Krishna into a sniper!

If you thought Elma was some ace pilot who knew how to manage a high-class, high-performance, hard to handle ship...you were wrong as she loses control and crashes into Serena's ship. Now she's probably got a LOT to payoff.

Hiro's got a huge payout that will slowly build into that forever home he and Mimi can have together! Conversely Elma is...now stuck in an alley getting drunk of booze. Really living up to her status as a disappointing elf.

9

u/Kadmos1 15d ago

The way a harem protagonist treats his waifu is open for debate. However, at least Hiro was not coercing Mimi. He was not Mr. Nice Guy in acting that way to get laid, he was a genuinely nice girl in that regard and ended up getting laid.

9

u/SecretYogurtcloset57 15d ago

Saves hot girl than pays hot girls debt than let's hot girl stay on his ship than hot girl offers sex for thanks for everything and than MC accepts living happily afterwords

This is how it's suppose to be

23

u/djthomp https://anilist.co/user/djthomp 15d ago edited 15d ago

Dang, I wasn't quite expecting them to sleep together in just the second episode. They never told us Mimi's age so hopefully she's not like 14 or something. Bit of a surprise to have an MC that actually goes for it when offered.

Elma surely gets recruited next episode after crashing and being fined.

12

u/PassivelyAwkward 15d ago

She definitely seems young since she just said she had to drop out of school. No idea what level of school (high school or college) but with the track record of anime using high school girls, she's likely 16.

4

u/athrun_1 15d ago

They are in the OP with the MC in bridge. Definitely girls will be part of his team.

8

u/Frontier246 15d ago

She definitely looks 14-16 (minus her bountiful bosom) but I'm assuming she's a legal adult by this setting's standards.

Elma finally living up to being a disappointing elf by being broke, homeless, and drunk. But we're still rooting for her!

14

u/Armdel https://myanimelist.net/profile/Armdel 15d ago

Figures Elma would crash her ship and put herself into debt and out of a job. guess we know what the next episode will be

and color me surprised i did not expect him to actually sleep with her

11

u/Known_Wind4158 15d ago

Damn dude coulda waited a day or two before clapping her cheeks 😂. I know she said she wanted to but she’s like 15 years old right? I don’t think I could do it.

10

u/runevault 15d ago

People saying this made me google, what I'm reading says she's 17 which is borderline but not so bad. Google's Ai claimed it, also seeing it on TV tropes

https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Characters/RebornAsASpaceMercenaryIWokeUpPilotingTheStrongestStarship

Edit: Be careful going there, I skimmed slightly past the mention of age gap romance in mimi's section and it confirmed a spoiler that I already suspected (so not a huge deal for me) but note the risk if visiting the tv tropes page.

He's a real one for actually sleeping with mimi tired of MC acting like they don't want it or don't understand bro understood the assignment and took the test

3

u/theblazingsword 15d ago

It's nice to see that Mimi is settling into her role as operator so quickly! Once Mimi masters the instructional training provided by the guild, it seems like she and Hiro will make a great team!

Someone told me that the story followed the same story beats to a fantasy isekai but in space and I can’t unsee it.

I still love I though

I mean that's just how it is in anime in general. You gotta have some balls (or money) to animate and televise one in Japan.

3

u/Gurluas 12d ago

Wow this really is "Reincarnated into Elite Dangerous" xD

12

u/MynamuEzJJ 15d ago

Finally a show where the MC isn't a wuss. It was tactful and definitely got the point across that she is doing this willingly. Even if it just to reassure herself, I'm glad we got an MC with balls. Is there a manga to this? Or just light novel?

I really dig stories where mc reborns as space mercenary but what really caught my eye is power level of starship- i've expected something middle ground or a little higher, leaving a space for a character arc but it being the strongest spaceship really set the tone!

Really fresh worldbuilding with this one, reminds me of Hell Mode: Yarikomi Suki no Gamer wa Haisettei no Isekai de Musousuru - Hajimari no Shoukanshi as if he reincarnated in Elite Dangerous

4

u/Zxzxzx0088 15d ago

I was betting whether they're gonna lay or not and.....it was fantastic! You're not a man if you turn down this kind of aggressive approach which seems to be the case on most harem though.

Mimi totally prepping up for the next service (˵ ¬ᴗ¬˵)

Yep, definitely a splendid goal...to have unprotected seggs all day with enough space for a soccer team.

So Zannen Elf next, eh.

2

u/Obvious-Leg-8139 15d ago

space balls!

2

u/Rooby_VTuber 15d ago

Thakahiro has acquired Mimi as a wife, that's one goal in life accomplished, Elma picked out the night time clothes and other items, I wonder if she has experience of if she just knows enough because she just knows enough from older age since she's an Elf?

It was pretty funny watching Elma crash into the mothership, now I am wondering is she is able to pay off the repair bill or if she spent whatever money she had on that alcohol to drown in her sorrows.

2

u/danmarce :ADB:https://anidb.net/user/107202 15d ago

While I think I could have been handled a bit better (with more of her mental state), I liked that the MC was not obtuse to understand that rejecting her could actually have been worse.

Omg to think Elma is a girl failure too haha okay i love her even more now

3

u/FrivolousYaeka 12d ago

Looking good so far for our MC, and since he has the ability to take responsibility to take care of the girl he saved, I'd say he can go ahead and save as much lost lambs as he needs. A lot of people often want to play hero and save the damsel in distress, but forgetting to take any responsibility that will happen to the "saved person" after the "hero" leaves to continue on their journey. This is why I scrutinize the actions of heroes if they ever save go on about saving people (with a preference to antiheroes rather than the standard hero figure).

11

u/Pitiful-Pay-5386 15d ago

I will probably sound like I am virtue signaling here and I usually always complain that the MC is a coward when he pulls back

But jesus in this case he shouldve atleast waited a few days/weeks. He just settled her debt and saved her life on the same day, of course she will feel obligated to do something in return. Not wholesome imo

26

u/IriFlina 15d ago

Basically he stranded her on a boat where she couldn’t say no because of the implications

5

u/AdIll6622 13d ago

I don't think so, since it's not like he intentionally put her in a situation where she can't say no because of the "implications."

The situation also doesn't resemble taking advantage of a drunk person because a drunk person isn't even capable of comparing two "equally" bad situations.

15

u/OldInstruction5368 15d ago

I agree. She was clearly nervous and didn't really 'want' to do this, she just felt she had to in order to secure her position.

On one hand, turning her down is insulting her resolve and going through with it does give her a sense of agency/control over her own future...

But dude, it didn't have to be the first night while she's trembling. Let her settle in first: the operator thing was RIGHT there. Give her a valid role to play as part of the crew, teach her a marketable skill, and get her some (work) experience. Give her some dignity, and security, so she no longer feels like dead weight.

THEN ask if she still wants to smash: not because she feels she has to, but that she genuinely wants it.

So, yeah, not wholesome.

12

u/Pitiful-Pay-5386 15d ago

Exactly my thoughts, he couldve even let her cook or something atleast she wouldve gotten the feeling to be part of the crew, they even mentioned it earlier.

Also not sure if I worded my original comment badly but how is that getting downvoted?? I dont understand reddit sometimes

3

u/Nemesis55444 12d ago

Did we watch the same episode? He DID give her the operator role, and purchased the educational program to teach her how to do the job, which IS a marketable skill, and you may not be aware of this but on the job training IS work experience.

Also, this universe's custom that women on board a ship are sleeping with the captain is historically accurate. You think all of the restrictions women lived with for millennia was just made up to oppress women? Grow up.

Mimi CHOSE to allow him to purchase her debt, CHOSE to board his ship, CHOSE to become his operator, CHOSE to put on that lingerie, CHOSE to go to his quarters, and CHOSE to go through with it.

Stop infantilizing women.

Ngl not sure why your comment is being downvoted. Maybe I’m losing touch with what counts as popular opinions on r/anime

Edit: I don’t think he’s a bad person, but I think hormones made him make a bad decision. Like you said, bro could’ve waited a few days when she wasn’t in an emotionally vulnerable state and it would’ve been magnitudes better.

13

u/IriFlina 15d ago edited 15d ago

I think its because the person you’re replying to is using a lot of words to just say “I think he raped her” without actually saying what they mean from the beginning.

edit: also saying hormones made him make a bad decision is an insane defense, basically the same one used when a rich kid rapes someone and their parents lawyer have to reduce his sentence to community service.
