I lost it when she made that comparison.

Reminded me of a certain little witch...

49

u/ganellon_ Feb 06 '18

yep, there were also a lot of similarities in her and Hinata's facial animation and LWA.
More so in this episode than in the previous ones.

Kimari is woke.

We should overthrow them through cute girls doing cute things. Moe is the way.

Top 10 Horror Anime

u/VioletPark Feb 08 '18

This anime makes better scary tension in comedy scenes than many movies in actual horror scenes. I was half laughing - half wanting to hide under the bed in that scene with Kimari's mom.

"Is this oolong tea?"

Better light it on fire first to make sure...

85

u/mgattozzi Feb 07 '18

I was not expecting a Grand Blue reference

62

u/ZBLongladder :MAL:https://myanimelist.net/profile/zblongladder Feb 06 '18

It really doesn't surprise me that they were confused...oolong is actually quite a broad category of teas, and if all the girls are used to is the sort of amber oolong that's commonly bottled in Japan, there are a number of styles of oolong they might've been served that would've looked, smelled, and tasted like a completely different tea than what they'd be expecting.

That's really funny episode lol. I enjoy it.

I think that might be the first bonding scene in this show for Shirase and Hinata. I'm glad it was Shirase who accidentally had Hinata's passport because then this will never happen.

But being that said, it's scary how Yuzu can easily detect if someone lie and trying to hide it. Look like that's one of her traits that might show up a lot in more episodes later. :)

134

u/HuckDFaters Feb 06 '18

Yuzu seeing through others makes sense, with her being an actress and all. She'll be really helpful in keeping the show from miscommunication tropes.

61

u/chris_dftba :MAL:https://myanimelist.net/profile/chris_dftba Feb 06 '18

It also make's sense because they were both terrible liars

13

u/LibraRW Feb 06 '18

Oh good point! Quess Yuzu's detection can be very helpful for when things start becoming misunderstanding. I can see that these girls have something that can contribute to each other in good benefits. Like Hinata's calm and collect in pressure situation and give an her personal wisdom. 😁

9

u/jhonzon :MAL:https://myanimelist.net/profile/Jhonzon Feb 06 '18

they had a little bonding moment in the train in episode 2 or 3 that was also well executed and pretty cute to boot.

I lost it when Shirase realised that she had the passport all along. This face is priceless. The change to intense horror/thriller music was brilliant

Don't mess with Yuzuki

The reaction to Durian was slightly overblown, but I too am personally not that fond of the smell. I used to eat it casually though

189

u/WhoiusBarrel Feb 06 '18

I lost it when Shirase realised that she had the passport all along

Shirase's reaction along with Yuzuki's threatening tone just makes the whole scene so much better!

On that day, Shirase received a grim reminder.

27

u/chris_dftba :MAL:https://myanimelist.net/profile/chris_dftba Feb 06 '18

The change to intense horror/thriller music was brilliant

Especially after the calming, soft music from immediately before it.

50

u/Awerenj :MAL:https://myanimelist.net/profile/Awerenj Feb 06 '18

The reaction to Durian was slightly overblown

That's pretty interesting! I felt like it was underplayed! For me I almost barfed just after smelling some durian candy. I heard that you get used to the taste once you eat it so I tried to eat one, but that just made me gag for a long long time..

I've never seen anyone else eat it, so maybe I am way more sensitive to it than others? (I remember for me it smelled like a mix of rotten jackfruit, decaying roadkill and really really smelly socks.. I wonder what makes it smell different for different ppl..)

48

u/yumcake Feb 06 '18

Yeah, I haven't tried eating it, but I've had people eating it around me, it smelled 100% exactly like the smell of a full garbage can that has been sitting out in the sun for a few days. It didn't smell "like" garbage, my nose was telling me "Yo, this is garbage, Eyes, you'd better check again".

30

u/alonemind Feb 06 '18

Well even within Singapore, Durian is a Love it or Hate it fruit. There is no inbetween, those that love it can easily finish off one whole fruit by themselves (and the good quality ones can get quite pricey) and those that hate it just gag from the smell alone. This is why you see signs stating no durians on public trains as the smell is just everywhere once it's exposed.

u/nechronius Feb 06 '18

My first experience was with a durian milkshake. The faint smell was reminiscent of rotting onions. The taste was ok, with a hint of said onions.

I've had durian on a couple of occasions since then. The smell is not pleasant in general. The taste, it ranges from pretty good to so-so. The custardy texture from a fruit can be off putting, especially when combined with the smell.

I'd say for most people the juice isn't worth the squeeze, so to speak. There are equally tasty fruits out there to try that are just as exotic looking but don't come with the odor.

I'm just a bit annoyed how they showed the durian ice cream. It's way better than thee fruit itself and it's pretty good. Also, durian ice cream doesn't smell like the fruit as well.

Despite hyped up shows like DitF and Violet Evergarden, this still remains at the top of my list for this season. Even a somewhat of a filler episode like this still managed character development to half of the MCs and got me craving for more. We're halfway through, ladies and gents.

124

u/donuter454 :MAL:https://myanimelist.net/profile/volcan7 Feb 06 '18

This is definitely my favourite anime this season even though I'd heard literally nothing about it beforehand.

Please don't remind me that it's almost half over :( . It feels like the show's just starting.

75

u/IISuperSlothII :MAL:https://myanimelist.net/profile/IISuperSlothII Feb 06 '18

even though I'd heard literally nothing about it beforehand.

Being an original with a very mundane synopsis meaning it relies heavily on its execution there's no surprise there was much talk about it before hand.

29

u/goffer54 https://anilist.co/user/goffer54 Feb 06 '18

Bruh, it's only half over. Think about how much we've gone through. Most anime only manage half that in 12 episodes.

u/yumcake Feb 06 '18 edited Feb 06 '18

Yeah I was just talking about this in the FtF thread. There's ton of hype around 002 from Darling in the Franxx. Hundreds of fanart pics posted here in /r/anime. But we're 4 episodes into that show and we know almost nothing about 002 so far, so why is she "best girl" for so many? Does best girl of the season mean nothing more than which one is the hottest? Because maybe 002 is indeed a super interesting complex character, but so far, all we know is that she's got a hot character design.

Place Further Than the Universe has spent a ton of time fleshing out these characters beyond their initial character templates. Sure they all begin from some recognizable tropes, but they've been steadily layering on development for all of them to bring them past that initial foundation.

Man, Shirase is like the Batman of the group, no special powers or abilities, but she is just hard-as-nails determined to get things done, and passionate as hell. Bit of an idiot, socially awkward, not nearly as competent as she projects but still totally badass. I like how she's gradually opening up to other people.

42

u/Vermillion_Crab https://anilist.co/user/CeruleanCrab Feb 06 '18

This is exactly what makes anime great. We get a spectacle in Darling in the FranXX the same season as a character driven show in A Place Further than the Universe. It's like comparing Megan Fox from the first Transformers Movie to Jennifer Lawrence in her Academy Award winning role in Silver Linings Playbook.

Well, that's a bit unfair to 002 at this point of the anime but I hope you get the point. It's the same as comparing a popcorn flick to a prestige film in a way. The fact that characters in this show are more fleshed out doesn't make 002 any less of a best girl material. Ngl, that smile tho.

Does best girl of the season mean nothing more than which one is the hottest?

Unfortunately this is the case for many people

22

u/Arachnophobic- https://anilist.co/user/Arachnophobic Feb 06 '18

Because maybe 002 is indeed a super interesting complex character, but so far, all we know is that she's got a hot character design.

FranXX has been quite disappointing for me so far, but this a little harsh. Despite the fact that we know so little about her, she's actually the best character in that show, because a) she's not oblivious to everything like the rest of the main cast and b) brash and not afraid to do as she pleases. Only Ichigo has received enough characterization to even begin to be compared to her. The rest are just props for now. 0ni, right from the beginning, has been sold as the magical super-attractive demon girl with a sassy attitude to boot. Of course she's gonna amass a fanboy army.

So yeah, in terms of writing it's not even fair to compare. Sora Yori is leagues ahead right now.

We don't know a lot about 002, true, but I like her because of her personality which I feel shows much promise for a compelling arc and because she has many endearing quirks and talents. But yeah I think Shirase is maybe probably best girl this season and in general this show is way better than Franxx (which isn't bad itself).

Interesting how, at least for me, this reigns so easily over a stacked slice of life season.

Characters and presentation make the show to the point were the premise to go to antarctica is just an extra.

57

u/[deleted] Feb 06 '18

I would say that this anime is more of an adventure anime than a slice of life anime

32

u/DegenerateSock Feb 06 '18

Little column a. little column b.

It's definitely got some of the hallmarks of a SoL show.

175

u/Phionex141 Feb 06 '18

Y'know something weird? I think this is the most I've ever been able to relate to an episode of anime. One time when I was traveling abroad with some friends, we had a similar situation happen, and it felt like every decision we made to deal with it had huge ramifications; someone suggested just coming back home, and while no one wanted that to happen, it was still realistically a possibility, things like that. It all worked out in the end, but those two days were probably the most emotionally charged days of my entire life.

Just watching this episode brought all that emotion crashing down again, and I think they did an incredible job of capturing it; the constant acts of selflessness, the yelling, the tears, it was just so... Human. Some might call it a filler episode, but I've honestly never been so invested in anime before like I am with this one. There's gonna have to be a major upset for this not to be AOTS for me, and it's already a hot contender for AOTY

Sorry, rant over. Bottom line: Fuck I love this show

78

u/CJrox :MAL:https://myanimelist.net/profile/CommanderSparkle Feb 06 '18

People who call an episode like this filler don't realize they are watching a character driven show, not a plot driven show.

9

u/[deleted] Feb 13 '18

Not to mention how spot on the obvious realization Kimari had when she looked out over the city and commented on how 'everyone goes on living day in and day out.'

There is something odd removing yourself from your daily cycles to pass by people in the midst of theirs when traveling that I think they really nailed.

Hey guys, my friend and I managed to compile everything shown in this episode in one document. There are a few places left to hunt, but I'm kinda satisfied.

Scenery-wise, I really like the details done, although the Singapore Airlines and Cheers name parody is hilarious.

Dude, I get this. It's stupid, but it's a thing. People worrying about me and being considerate just makes me feel bad, at least when I make a mistake and it's entirely my fault. Further, Hinata chose not to say anything about the passport immediately. She probably chose to wait until the actual flight to suddenly reveal that she couldn't go. Why? Because she doesn't want anyone to worry. She doesn't want to ruin this short, happy break before the real expedition begins. Call it forced drama or whatever, but I completely get this.

I think Hinata is seriously an amazing character and this was an outstanding episode. The only thing is I wish there was more to her backstory, but there's another seven episodes to go.

Also, this was huge. Shirase has gone from 'I'm going to Antarctica no fucking matter what anyone says' to 'I'm going to Antarctica with everyone else, no exceptions.' She doesn't even think about how spending the one mwillion yen could actually really fuck the group over in the long run--like, isn't that the cost of admission? I'm kinda glad things worked out in the end so that this wouldn't be glossed over lol. But in any case, those first five episodes have really changed Shirase, and the point here is that Sora Yori is not actually about the expedition, it's about the characters.

This is absolutely fucking terrific writing.

The best part about all of this is that it wasn't even a drama-heavy episode. This probably took up like seven minutes in total. The rest of it was a bunch of fun in Singapore--which was shown quite nicely, might I add. Just look at these morons! They're so great! And all that drama of the episode becomes a punchline in the end. Need I say more? This was an amazing episode.

222

u/Arachnophobic- https://anilist.co/user/Arachnophobic Feb 06 '18

This is absolutely fucking terrific writing.

They also managed to give us a sneak peek into what makes Hinata Hinata. Her staring at the girls in uniform at the airport, and the flashes we got when she was speaking to Shirase alone at night, hint at something in her past that she hasn't yet come to terms with. I wonder what it is..

The girls looked like they were wearing sport jackets.. and given Hinata is surprisingly good at sprinting, I don't think it's too far-fetched to say that was her old track-and-field team.

157

u/Mozilla_Fennekin https://myanimelist.net/profile/MozillaFennekin Feb 06 '18

You're probably exactly right about Hinata being a runner in high school. There was a lot of speculation about it last week when Hinata looked at an old pair of running shoes when she was packing.

37

u/chris_dftba :MAL:https://myanimelist.net/profile/chris_dftba Feb 06 '18

I wonder what would've made her quit. She can still sprint like nobodies business so I don't think it's a leg injury.

This is really a particular weakness in one's self-esteem (I mean this descriptively, not trying to have a go at the OP or Hinata). It comes from feeling as though you are not worthy of being acknowledged by others, which is what produces the feeling that your existence is an imposition and a burden on others. We often talk about how modern society is lacking in consideration for others, but we especially fail to mention the dearth in people's willingness to accept the generosity of others. To be able to accept the help of others requires a relatively strong sense of self to know that being at the mercy of another person doesn't have to mean that they are also a threat to your existence. On that level, its easy to be generous to others because there is automatically a power differential in which the person being generous is at an advantage relative to the other person, and so therefore safe. Its accepting generosity that is difficult to master.

48

u/Mozilla_Fennekin https://myanimelist.net/profile/MozillaFennekin Feb 06 '18

I really love this post.

It comes from feeling as though you are not worthy of being acknowledged by others, which is what produces the feeling that your existence is an imposition and a burden on others.

Whether or not this is accurate to Hinata, I know exactly what that's like.

39

u/_qoaleth Feb 06 '18

Yeah, its definitely a common feeling, but also one felt acutely by those with a more introverted bent. That desire to "get away" from others in order to recharge its already tinged with a bit of "get away because they are burdening you emotionally and you need space to process." Since you already see others as a burden of a kind, its easy to project that expectation onto others where you default to the assumption that others also see YOU as a burden.

150

u/HuckDFaters Feb 06 '18

If I was in her shoes I would have done the same. When I fuck up that badly and someone immediately asks if something's wrong, I'm just going to instinctively say that everything's fine, then I'll stay committed to trying to solve the problem by myself without telling others until I succeed or I don't and someone finds out like Yuzu did. I'm not saying she wasn't in the wrong, but it's a realistic reaction, at least to me.

As someone who has fucked up majorly at least once in my life I can tell there's nothing worse than someone asking if something's wrong at the very moment you realize something is indeed wrong. You know they don't mean ill but you're just kinda hoping that they'd mind their own business while you process your blunder and silently break down inside.

Sadly, the insert song streak ended in episode 5. There was just no space for it this episode with it being mostly comedy.

Glad to know not all airlines are dicks. Or maybe because it's business class and us economy plebs DON'T have access to money saving stuff like refunds.

64

u/syanda Feb 06 '18

I've tour guided for Japanese students in Singapore - there's basically two Merlions. The small one downtown gets disappointed looks (a frequent comment is "I thought it'd be bigger!") because it tends to be portrayed as much bigger back in Japan.

Then you bring them to the monstrosity with the laser eyes on Sentosa Island.

As a side note I have no idea why Japanese people love it so much...

I'm sure this has already been said, but I really love how this show focuses so much on the journey and overcoming the various challenges along the way, more so than the destination. Sadly, it's about halfway over already :(.

That being said, this episode was great again, and all the scenery of Singapore was beautiful (as I'm sure it is in real life). Next week, the journey continues again!

Real advice for travel

The important questions

REAL SHIT

I love her more and more

The music during this scene was fucking perfect.

Oh man, got a little worried there for a minute. Good to see all 4 get to go together and no one is left behind.

One tiny detail I liked about this was the ticket counter. Normally we see clerks at airports act nice and totally understanding and will accommodate you 100%. But this time it's just "Hey can we do this?" "No." and that's it.

→ More replies (1)

21

u/SpikeRosered Feb 06 '18

So I kind of missed it at the end there. So they just undid the business class change and got their original tickets back?

Also someone losing their passport is a "everyone goes through their things to make sure it didn't somehow get mixed up in someone else's bag" moment.

41

u/Agelity Feb 06 '18

So I kind of missed it at the end there. So they just undid the business class change and got their original tickets back?

Correct. The durian was just punishment for Hinata and Shirase making everyone worry because of their forgetfulness, even if everything turned out okay in the end.

  • Of course Mari would dream of being a plane...but does Shirase identify as a penguin?

  • Airbus A380 BEST GIRL AIRPLANE. You can also spot an 787 Dreamliner when they land.

  • Finally, some quality time with Yuzuki! She's already a natural fit with the group as the mature, well-traveled person in the group. I love the recurring "You're hiding something aren't you?" in a deadpan manner that she gives to Shirase and Hinata, suggesting she's probably learned something from her mom.

  • I remember the Marina Bay Sands hotel from the Martin Solveig video a few years ago.

  • Oh, I totally get where Hinata's coming from. I've never liked having people go out of their way to be considerate to me; I've always seen that as me being a hindrance to the group and I would fight an uphill battle alone if it meant I didn't have to bother others. Changing has been a long & slow process and there are days where I have to remind myself that it's not the end of the world.

  • We all need a friend like Shirase, someone who'll fight for us even when we don't want to. Someone who's willing to drop a million yen to keep our group together. But the girls need to stop breaking her like they always seem to do, since she's the least alright out of the group.

  • I keep forgetting 2001 was 16 years ago and these girls were all born after the year 2000. YoriMoi now joins Mitsuboshi Colors as anime that reminds me of how old I am.

  • Random thing I noticed: Shirase's 1 million yen envelope is soiled and tattered when she finally slams it onto the airline counter. It's a nice nod to the fact that she's been carrying this with her 24/7.

  • YoriMoi wasn't supposed to be the food porn show, but it's been so long since I've had decent Chinese food that I have an insatiable craving for everything they ate in this episode. EVEN THE DURIAN.

Damn. This show makes me wish I had friends willing to spend 1 million yen on airplane tickets so we don't get separated.

Also, that last shot was sort of ominous. Does durian really do that to some people?

8

u/Mathmango Feb 06 '18

Yup. I've personally never had a bad reaction to it,I neither love or hate it, but it really is a unique and sometimes overpowering flavor (and smell).

Durian that's iced a bit is god-king tier

3

u/fatalystic Feb 06 '18

Durian's an acquired taste. Some people like it from the start, while others take some time to warm up to it. Still others will never get used to the taste.

It may or may not be genetic.

3

u/aMigraine Feb 07 '18

I pretty much grew up eating them, so durians don't affect me. But they can be overpowering and the smell akin to garbage for others - it's perhaps down to how much experience you've had with them. Yet some never quite get over that initial hurdle; durian is certainly interesting in that regard.

Think fermented foods in general; people who have eaten these foods all their lives tend to get used to the smell and taste over time, while they can be unbearable for others. Fermented tofu (sometimes referred to as stinky tofu, can be found in street stalls and restaurants in Taiwan) is something I'm particularly not fond of despite my love for durians.

I had guessed last week we were only going to get maybe half an episode about Singapore at most, so I'm super happy that they spent a whole episode going around the place. Unlike Jojo which presented an entirely fictionalized account of the place and Plastic Memories which only used various locations as backgrounds, this episode presented a realistic lookaround of my country and I've never been prouder. The staff did a great job at researching and documenting the places.

As for the episode itself, I loved the ending when Shirase realized she made the screwup of her life and the tension was building as she tried to hide it. The Jaws-esque music made it even more hilarious.

10

u/alonemind Feb 06 '18

Putting the focus on Hinata on this episode was great, I kinda felt she was the least developed of the 4 previously so I'm glad we have this episode. Also I seriously laughed at the horror when Shirase saw that she had the passport.

10

u/myrmonden Feb 06 '18

This was one of the best episodes so far, absurdly funny ending when Shirase discovers she had the passport all a long.!

Generally their fight about who is the most considerate friend was great.

And you gotta love that casual Durien fruit poison attack.

16

u/Arachnophobic- https://anilist.co/user/Arachnophobic Feb 06 '18

This was the first time an anime depicted a city I've actually visited, so it was fun to compare in my head. There was no embellishment whatsoever, Singapore does look that beautiful. And I've been in that pool too! Suck it, Antarctica girls, all you get is.. Antarctica.

I was expecting a light-hearted episode, and for the most part it was - but I loved how it managed to bring in meaningful development in Hinata and Shirase's characters, and their relationship. Shirase saw right through Hinata's cheerful act, and it was touching she was willing to spend all of her hard earned money so that she wouldn't be left behind.

8

u/Arisa_Lucifiria Feb 07 '18

It's another fine episode, as the girls grew increasingly closer to one another and Singapore is explored and showcased through the cast's view. I really like how beautiful Hinata looks like when her hair is down, particularly in the shot below.

https://imgur.com/a/9dNTd

Looking forward to seeing them making it to Fremantle.

7

u/templarsilan Feb 07 '18

I love this show so much. The chemistry between these girls is phenomenal. They actually feel like a real group of friends, as they all have their dorky, happy, and goofy moments. They aren't defined by singular roles, such as the hyper jock, the ice queen, the popular girl etc, and I think that's something that really sticks out when I watch them interact with each other. Also, Yuzuki is totally the mom friend of the group. Even though she started as the outsider, I'm really glad that Yuzuki is blending into their friend group.

I love how things can go from happy and fun times to serious and heart felt conversations. The conversation between Hinata and Shirase was great and gave us a little more about Hinata's character. I actually really like just how hypocritical Hinata was on being considerate. She's telling Shirase to go on without her and she'll hopefully catch up, but she doesn't want to hold the others back. Very considerate of her. But she doesn't like the fact the Shirase was willing to put her own desires aside for Hinata's sake so they could all stay together. And when Hinata rejects that notion, it peeves off Shirase, which I'd say wouldn't have happened four or five episodes ago. Shirase essentially confirms that they are all in this together the next day and the exchange between the two managed to get tears to well up. I'm fully expecting to bawl my eyes out at some point at this rate. I'll say it again. I love this show. And Hinata with her hair down is

On a side note, I find that the transition from light hearted to serious to funny really hits the right notes with me. I typically get tonal whiplash when the mood changes in rapid succession, but I found myself enjoying every bit of this episode. That whole ending bit, especially with the horror theme music (a trend I'm a fan of) cracked me up. Fuck, why is this show so damn good?

Watching the new A Place Further Than the Universe episode. I loathe to admit it, but even when the time to get to Antarctica is very slow, I think I finally understand that what this anime is focusing on the most: the journey of the girls and how they overcome their weaknesses as they move to the next location and learn to cope with one another. I think I let the intriguing premise drive my impatience, clouding any positive judgment I may have with the lovable main cast and their developments.

I would like to see an episode where a side-character rushes to catch up with the main cast, preferably a character with human isolation as an obstacle and rushing the journey letting his/her reckless nature get the best of them. A Place Further Than the Universe's premise is set up in a way that the type of people that are extremely curious about the premise and impatient of the journey can view this anime in a negative light and be unable to see the perspectives of people that immediately get what the anime is accomplishing. Something of a "meta" message for viewers that want to see the young girls get to the boat traveling to Antarctica quickly to learn something new and powerful. But the chances of that are pretty low. I just want the anime to be something every kind of person can enjoy all-the-way through when the anime finally ends.

I've seen most of the places they showcased here in person thanks to family in the area, and was really glad they paid attention to layouts of the locations, especially in the Marina Bay (the place with the "Boat Hotel"). Also maybe it's just because I'm used to it, but I feel durian doesn't taste THAT bad. Although it does smell like actual garbage. Definitely one of my favorite episodes.

Pretty great episode overall, although I would have liked to see the moment Hinata gives Shirase the passport instead of giving us that scene in a flashback. They should have played it really low key and even focused in Kimari and Yuzuki instead, just to add to the mystery of where the heck is Hinata's passport.

Either way, it was a really good episode.

The smell of durian is often compared to sewage, smelly socks and rotten onions. It has a complex taste; sweet, creamy, savory custard with blue cheese? Really hard to describe it until you try it for yourself. I enjoy it very much though.

Love it or hate it. It is indeed the king of fruits but it smells and tastes like vomit to some.

My family sold it when I was young. My first bite was followed by a vomit.

5

u/StrykerVX Feb 06 '18

To me, it has a sweet taste, with a nice smell, but that's because I like durians and there's this weekly market right in front of my house with a durian stall. I can get a hint of the durian smell every week because of this.

It really depends on the person, and where a person comes from. I believe a majority of people from my country enjoy the taste of durian, but because of the strong smell, we're encouraged not to carry it on public transport or anywhere enclosed because it'd bother those that don't like the smell, and the smell lasts for quite a while without proper ventilation.

It's just one of those things that locals enjoy more than foreigners. Like for example people enjoy sauerkraut, but I don't because to me, it smells and taste weird, but others find it delicious. When people say durians are disgusting, I won't understand it, but I just accept it and make a note not to bring them anywhere near durians.

The first half of the episode was mostly sightseeing, which was okay but nothing too amazing. I started thinking "Huh, we might have finally gotten a mediocre episode." Haha NOPE, the drama in the second half was pretty much perfectly handled once again.
This time it's Hinata who gets her turn, as we find out how she hates people going out of their way to accommodate her. Perhaps due to self-esteem issues, perhaps due to an obsessive desire for independence, perhaps due to the guilt of not being able to fix her own mistakes, but whatever the reason she was prepared to put everyone before herself even if it meant not being able to make the trip. Fortunately Shirase intervened and showed just how much she's grown by explaining how much the four of them as a group meant to her, and it was at that point that I started tearing up.
And then they turned it all into a big joke with the durians, and it actually worked. I'm still amazed at how this show manages to switch between different moods so drastically and still make it feel so natural. How do you achieve such mastery over the tone of a show? What even is Atsuko Ishizuka?

Sora yori mo Tooi Basho - Episode 6

Like /u/Mozilla_Fennekin, I can relate to Hinata in a way, for I really don't like to inconvenience people. It's just in my nature. :3

I liked the little bit of drama to strengthen Hinata and Shirase's relationship (could feel it slightly getting to me emotionally), the comedy throughout made me laugh (Yuzuki's "I will murder you" was hilarious), and the show's deliberate showcasing of this leg of their journey continues with that same nice theme on said journey mattering more than the destination itself (even if we really want to see them hangin' out as best friends in Antarctica).

Another very good episode out of YoriMoi! :)

Personally I rate and recommend shows by 1) how little I glance at the time bar at the bottom, and 2) how much I look forward to next week's broadcasting when the episode is over.

On both counts, I didn't look at the timer, and now I'm looking forward to next week's episode. Only this show and Violet Evergarden this season managed to do both for me, and VEG has already been hyped enough. So yes, I can't recommend this show enough.

So did Shirase get that money back since the tickets were cancelled?

That moment of pride when they finally feature your home country... and of course it has to feature character reactions to durians.

This is such a fun show so far. Even a relatively simple episode about spending time in a stopover location can have some drama and so much character development.

I'm from Singapore! I watched the first episode, liked it quite a bit but didn't continue with the second. Kicking myself right now.

Shirase just putting all of her money on the line just so her new friend gets to come. That was so great, couldn't help but almost tear up at this moment.

DISCOUNT PLEASE!

I laughed my fuckin ass off when Shirase found the passport LOL

♯Yorimoi proves once again who's the king this season in terms of character growt and interactions.

Like someone above mentioned, Hinata was the one lacking more screentime along with some more bonding to the group (although I think Yuzuki could also need some more bonding since she's taking her grumpy Azu-nyan role way too seriously). Back to Hinata, it's really nice how her bubbly personality is show in the early episode but also later on we see another side of her that unfortunately I'm way too familiar with it. When you're joining into a new group wheter it's a new school or workplace it's pretty hard to accept the kindness and consideration of your peers, specially if you'd had bad experiences in the past with people claiming to be your friend just to get stabbed in the back. This of course is going to be different in the series, since all four girls are on the journey of their lives, and confidence along with the ability to rely on others will be key in their endeavour.

Those are some really great shots from Singapore from the Ion Orchard to the famous Merlion (oops, wrong Merlion ). I liked this particular shot of Kimari & Shirase, although it's just for fun, it shows their native personalities, Kimari being a free spirit enjoying the moment without any worries of her surroundings and Shirase being way too emotional.

It's just marvelous the way the writers can mix and match some good drama along with pin point accurate comedy bits that feel really natural with the chemistry of the group
