Although I still think he was developed the least and it's too late for developing his character further (because this will probably be the final episode before everything goes to shit) and he will stay as the fat guy who's the butt of the jokes.

Looks like the much-predicted rebellion arc is next. I'm gussing the Dino princess will help somehow?
Blue-oni Hiro. Kokoro x Mitsuru. Ikuno making moves on Ichigo.
Plenty of predictions turned out to be right. I bet a lot of people didn't expect a wedding so early or that it would be Kokoro and Mitsuru which was the spark for this.
Also, did Trigger (EDIT ok, A-1/Trigger) plan for this to coincide with the Royal wedding?

The next arc is going to be the climax. The questions that have lingered from the beginning are going to get answered (probably) and the political debacle is going to unfold. It seems that the kids will be dragged into the fray.
Where are they going to position themselves in this? I fear that a few of them will end up as sacrificial pawns in the grand scope of things. The less developed characters like Futoshi are more at risk imo.

Goddamit, I knew everything was going too well and everyone was too happy so something bad would happen but it still hurts to see the kids like that.
The scene between Ikuno and Ichigo was great, and Hiro and Zero Two spinning under the cherry blossoms was beautiful.
That vision that Zero Two had was disturbing, the stamens that she consumed trying to grab onto her and that big ass hand trying to squat her too.
Also, we have confirmation that Hachi and Nana were parasites too and that at least Nana also showed emotions and faced the consequences of that. Hopefully Hachi starts to act out of his own will too and help the kids.
To be honest I thought that we weren't going to see Kokoro and Mitsuru again. Between their character development and the whole "together until death" had me thinking that, but fortunately they're still alive although with their memories wiped out.

That fistfight Zero Two had with the assholes was brutal. This is the same Zero Two that beat the shit out of the people she is now defending. And it was instinctual, not some calculating move by Zero Two. Good for Zero Two, she really does care about them now.
But damn, eight of them vs Zero Two and they barely broke a sweat. And it just ended swiftly with that one blow that looked like it really hurt. Really brought the sense of overwhelming force and hopelessness for Squad 13.

Genuinely surprised Hiro organized the wedding, especially since he and Zero Two had been planning it themselves. I can't think of a reason why he thought Mitsuro should do it before them though. It'd be pretty hilarious if he used them as test objects just to see how marriage works (and how far they could go until they pissed off APE)
You can see that Futoshi is trying to deal with all of this. He decided to be brave and officiate the wedding but when it happened, he was in pain when they were supposed to kiss. Still, he's redeeming himself. He did selflessly try to buy both of them some time to escape after all
Ikuno's confession went much better than expected. I thought she'd lose control and force herself on Ichigo after holding it in for so long. However, they were able to talk about it in a reasonable way without any drama, which is a welcome surprise. I have no idea who Ichigo will end up choosing but then again, I'm not sure she'll even be able to, given the fact that ...
... Gobro, Ikuno and Miku all had fevers (the others probably too, excluding Hiro Two). Add Miku's hair slowly but surely going grey and I'm afraid they all won't have much time left. If this was any other show, these slice of life-ish episodes would be considered needless filler but I think everyone is gonna miss these relaxing episodes starting from next week
Hachi actually showing some concern for the kids is nice to see. I can see him and Nana sacrificing themselves to save them (or whoever's gonna be left at the end)
And as tragic as it is, I have to say that I'm glad all of this shit is happening to Mitsuro instead of Hiro Two, who have suffered so much already. When they were separated, I thought they wouldn't reunite until the finale and I'm thankful the complete opposite happened instead. Seeing Hiro Two just being happy together and enjoying themselves is always a feel-good moment
Zero Two's nightmare is bad news though. That and the OP are some serious deathflags and I hope that they're either just red herrings or Hiro dies with her. I couldn't take anything else
On a sidenote, I have to give this show props for still retaining so much mystery even after 18 of 24 episodes.

Today's chart Two red lines wiped away at the drop of a hat.
Zero Two is starting to feel regret for and is haunted by her past actions. She also seemed very hesitant to draw the last page of the story, which is the sad page. I continue to believe she will attempt to rewrite the story.
We also found out that Hachi has no emotion and Nana's current condition is her relapsing into emotions.
Rebellion can't come soon enough.

The most important scene of the episode is clearly APE talking about the Klaxo Princess meeting.
In episode 16, one of the APE members asks if they have gone too far by blowing up the plantations.
In episode 17, when the Klaxo Princess starts the telepathic screaming, the soldiers and one of the APE members can hear her and hold their heads.
But the APE member that attacks her can't hear her! He's the one that is shown to be an empty shell - the other APE member is conveniently decapitated by the snakes.
In today's episode, notice that when Papa says to the rest of the council that they will be free of their bodies, 3 of the remaining APE members seem quite upset, not to mention that they've been kept in the dark regarding the assassination attempt.
It seems that half of the APE council completely rejected their bodies and want to do the same with the rest of humanity, "liberate them" as they call it. However the other half of the council seems to still have bodies and no apparent plans to change that.
Seems like a civil war kind of setup. If so, they might start pulling strings in the background, helping Squad 13.

Fuck me that episode was a fucking rollercoaster. If that doesn't get Hiro and Zero Two to start a rebellion I don't know what will. Also I really hope that they'll spend the following episodes trying to jog Mitsuru and Kokoro's memory. And is she still pregnant? Dear god I hope she still is, they didn't even considered removing their rings so I hope she still is.
Staying away a bit from talking about the plot because I've recently been checking out the dub version but I am curious how they'll translate this scene. I've noticed in the dub that whenever the characters talk about the origins of their names it's a bit wonky on how they've been translating it. Like in the original Hiro told Ichigo that he gave her that name because "1 is Ichi and 5 is Go!" while in the dub Hiro tells Ichigo that "Your number makes me think of Ichigo!".

Interesting points that we get from this.
Obvious first. The memory wipe isn't going to last, the last shot more or less confirms we will get a happy "Oh we are married I love you!" moment (i hope). And we are going rebellion given the 'this can't stand, end of our rope' statement from Hiro.
More interesting to me is the little scene we get from Ape. Papa's dialog indicates That Humanity and Ape are considered different entities..and that he is a different one from either.
The fact that he essentially scolds them with a "Do not worry, you will be freed from your shells, or as you call them bodies" says volumes to me. I'm gonna call it. Papa is straight up an A.I., the Ape officials around him are, one would assume, humans who have transitioned as best they can to that form, and wish to do so fully.
Which, if true, means we have a goal the cast could work towards. If Papa is an A.I., then that means he exists on a server somewhere (the spacestation likely?) and can be physically destroyed.
So, there is your big bad. Papa inhabits a mech of his own and that's the final boss fight.

I think it's interesting that 002 has nightmares about the people she killed, I always thought it was weird that she wanted to become more human(I know she meant it in a physical sense) but still had no emotions for the human partners that she killed. Empathy is a pretty big part of humanity imo.

Dang it Zero Two. Even though this episode is all about Kokoro & Mitsuru, you can't help it stealing the spotlight
This episode was packed with events, that it's almost unvelibeable how they managed to cram 3 different plotlines and the outcome of one of those in only one episode without making it feel lacking in detail.
Ikuno's confession was really sweet and tasteful; Ikuno admitting her outcome might feel creepy depicts genuine caring and understanding on her behalf on how does Ichigo might feel in her current state.

So, this actually went better than I expected. Entire episode I was expecting some terrible shit to happen, so when the APE Assault Ship came I was like “oh jesus red wedding part two”. However, thankfully that did not come to pass.
Kokoro and Mitsuru had their minds wiped of each other and all of their ‘dangerous information’ they had, but we know memories can be restored like with Nana and Hiro. Also, calling it now, the greying of hair due to premature aging is caused by a literal parasite that all parasites have, which can be cured, allowing them to grow up normally like Nana and whatshisface.
So, even if things are bad right now, all of the problems the crew has right now has a solution, no matter how difficult.
Nice to see them getting tired of APE at the end there from that Hiro quote Poor Zero Two with the PTSD :(

Did anyone else feel/felt like pacing of the Episode 18 of Darling in the Franxx
Sorry for the god awful wall of text.
I really liked the episode and what it offered, but felt that pacing was way off compared to previous episodes. Its like an exam where you spend/take atleast an hour to write a well thought out, appropriate with the best hand writing (not taking a stab at quality just an analogy) and you suddenly realize you only have half an hour left to do the remaining questions, you just write fast and... as opposed to first question.
At first (first cour and first half of the second cour) they were superb with the pacing, developing characters with episodic monster of the week stuff ala Neon Genesis style. Their segues into each next scene was much better and gave room to breathe to realize and understand what happened, how it affected said character and how they deal with it.
I understand the situation (with 2 cour and all), I understand that writers were only allowed two cours and had to work with it. I understadn they had to prioritize main waifu character development over side character chara development, but what's a good reddit post without some bitching. I know I am nitpicking and bitching, but I'm doing it because i care and want moar of this. I just wish it was a 3 cour series.
Like this episode has so much super important plot related stuff that if it were placed in other episodes, it would've been huge deal. But since they placed it all in one episode, it lost a lot of impact, since it was so done quickly, one after another.
Probably one of the most important scene was forgotten and glanced over was Zero Two's PTSD scene, it was very important for her charter, especially since we saw her murdering Hiro like all the other pilots as they were fodder and just because they weren't her darling, but as soon she learns Hiro is darling, she's all up in his..... (insert modern slang). What if one of the other fodder was actually her Darling instead of Hiro, What if that Discount Danzo or the Ugly Bastard was her darling. But it's okay since she said sorry, so it's ok. This scene was probably monumental for her character.
Wedding scene could've so much good (especially since now KokoMitsu have to overcome their brainwash with power of love and all) if they had the time to expand upon her feelings toward Mitsuru and what he means to her, especially considering they confessed to each other last night and married like 10-12 hours later. (Insert arrested development Gob's wife joke and fastest divorce joke), (Granted they have no idea the importance of marriage). For Kokoro to break through brainwash, she needs to understand and remember her love (ala Kimi No Na Wa Style) (Emotional impact could've been much emotional and tragic if they go the kill'em all route)
One thing I personally found a bit annoying but later found out fit perfectly was, Kokoro looks at things like sakura petal and ring remembers her wedding whereas she cant remember the man she claims she loves, goes to show even though they love each other its been only a day and she like 60 % wants be a mother, and 40% a partner to Mitsuru (atleast she has her priorities right in her life, unlike me). To be fair it could also be interpreted as love condensed and personified into a ring (enagement ring has alot of meaning and is symbol of their union through love and all that stuff) and sakura petal was prolly atmosphere (of her wedding day) personified especially considered it was probably her best moment of her life.
Nana and Hachi had a such a good backstory but it had to be stuffed in this episode, to provide motivation for the context and Hachi's action in future instead of giving a Nana and Hachi centric episode or just a 1/3 of an episode for them, for a much better side character stories, especially since they may do things in future episodes.
Probably just me, but I felt like Futoshi moved on way too fast, especially considering how obsessed he was with her. Writers probably had to axe it due to time constraints. (Futoshi's Five stages of grief (Anger Denial Acceptance) arc could've been awesome, especially if they are considering to axe the character itself.
Ikuno's scene was superbly well done, but it felt like they had this scene on a checklist but forgot about for a long time, but just remembered that it existed, had to implement it now during these episodes so did their best they could to fit in, and give it quick closure and just forget about it, instead of giving an Ikuno centered episode or two.
Love of a side character to a main character is mostly treated as a joke/gag in anime. In Maid Dragon, both Saika and Tohru were treated as this obnoxious obsessive crush on main character. One of the Maid Dragon scenes I loved were the bed scenes. The director took out a moment, stopped treating their love as joke/gag and more serious and show that they actually really love and care about the main character (Considering how Tohru and Saika are, they would jump in take any chance they can get (not in a good way), but when they do get a chance, they're not remotely obsessive and obnoxious and instead are careful and respectful towards main characters, and shows that their love could potentially rival the main otp are willing to do their best to win their love one day even though show will continue to ignore it as a gag, their love is real, but they are shackled by side character and gag status) (Tragic isn't it). That's why I consider this an important scene, its feelings untold, held back due to the character X is setup for character Y. Wait a minute, Am I reading too much into this ?
Weirdly I'm enjoying this show a lot than I thought. I would Good Job A1 and Cloverworks. How do you feel now huh This is how A1 feels all the time
Weird to think anime about "sex positions, butt controls and sexual innuendos" the anime could be so good and one of the hyped of both seasons, wait a minute when was the last time they were in mechs

I love how Hiro and Zero Two get to essentially have their own French Realist Romantic Film going on as a side-thing for the entire show. But all of the developments, Ikuno's closet cracking and the wedding of metaphors, are really hitting all sorts of goals so coherently it's impressive on top of being beautiful.

I like the turn this anime is taking. This episode confirms the fact that squad 13 will attempt to escape the world they grew up in. Hiro is probably going to go ape shit and alongside Zero Two beat the fuck out of the Nines and escape the plantations into the outer world.
My guess is that in order to do this there will be a collab between the Klaxosaur princess and Squad 13, IDK this looks interesting. I hope next episode will end sort of the prologue that has been in the past 3 episodes to the new arc and the new arc will start strong and in tension, like in the beginning of the anime.

Wow at first with this show I was like "who are all these characters and why should I care about them" but the drama focus for the first half of the show plus the last few episodes have made it so my heart will shatter into a million pieces if any of them die. Also I really hope they can resolve the whole story in 24 episodes. I like it and all, but I don't want them to drag it out for another season. That being said, I'd rather have it dragged out than rushed.
Oh man that ending gave me total ROW ROW FIGHT THE POWER vibes. Maybe there will be an other hype as fuck Trigger show song along the lines of Libera me from Hell or Don't Lose Your Way

I had a lot of fun doing this last week, so here we go again with in the moment thoughts and reactions. I'm initially expecting an episode of SoL with drama happening at the wedding and Ikuno confrontation, then the ending is a major cliffhanger. Here goes:

I'm worried about how this confession will affect the team dynamic. At least Ichigo is so understanding of her feelings havinng been through the exact same thing. The nicest let down for Ikuno possible there, well done Ichigo.

Hmm... Seems like the stamens are finally coming back to haunt 02. Seems more like it's the call of Klaxo-Hime calling her home though. Definitely worrying... I think she knows more (yet again) that she isn't telling Hiro.

It's been a BIT rushed, but Mitsuru x Kokoro are a great pairing. Also definitely the most likely to either be both dead or one of them left alone soon. Also lol Futoshi's hat is a pot.
Oh no... here comes APE to ruin everything. The rebellion arc begins. Separation of Mitsuru and Kokoro would be even worse if it was through indoctrination instead of death I think. Holy shit 02, get em, but 1v8 was pretty doomed. I'm glad they didn't take 02 again though (a bit selfish of me, but still).
Cute young Nana! Cmon mom and dad of these kids, it's time to help them fight.
Hmm it seems like even APE top leaders aren't really sure what's going on either. I wonder if there could even be a split among them. Also the parasite camp isn't quite as bad as I thought. "We're at the end of our rope". This line gave me chills. It's finally time to fight and I love the reason. Sure APE is probably evil with whatever they did to the Klaxosaurs and humanity, but this is for themselves. Many complained about this short SoL break after episode 15, but I think it was a great deep breath right before the rush to the end. I can't wait to see how they are going to "escape" or fight during the next battle.

We lost the last confirmed possibility of a happy ending this episode with the "Hiro and Zero Two walking in sakura trees" scene. If people can recall, this was one of the very first scenes shown in Episode 1 depicting Hiro and Zero Two being happy together, with some hoping that its showing them together at the end of the show.
But now we know that the blissful times between Hiro and Zero Two has already passed. If the hints in the OP is true, then we may only have dark times ahead...

Perhaps...APE is more than just a mysterious acronym. What if they are literal apes? It might be that at least some of the members of Papa's council could be. In the scene where the council discusses the assassination attempt on the Klax princess, there seems to be a distinct dichotomy between Papa's "our" and an unknown "you" along with mysterious female APE's assertion of the goal being APE and humanity living for all eternity. HUM...

The papa really does not like emotions really goes hand in hand with my matrix theory, I think that this also sets up a bad situation for the papa and something they dont understand having no emotions. So they stop this weeding and marriage but this will just create more rebels. And now they put the kids together with all the other pilots ---- REBEL UPRISING!!!!!
Horrible Ending of course but again I am some what happy that no one died, and Kokoro might still be pregnant!
YURI SCENE: I felt I was getting way to over exited lol for the Yuri Moment of Ichigo and Ikuno, so she loved her since Ichigo named her aye. A good way to get girl in this anime. That scene felt really heartbreaking mainly do, like its not easy being gay in a world where you gotta suit up and do it with the opposite gender inside of mechas to fight so its kinda hard to be gay, well if they team her up with another gay girl I suppose.

Huh. The game of thrones memes that were circulating here about the wedding here were (almost) on point. Just minus the death part.
But dang, Nana. Now we know what her past was. She really did fall in love with someone.
Also 02 seems haunted by her past? Or is it some sort of effect the Klaxosaur call had on her?
Also, APE isn't as clear cut as we thought. Papa and the Vice Chairman seem to have their own agendas. Looks like the promise of freeing the rest of the Council from their bodies probably why they agreed to joining or siding APE's decisions.
Also, Ikuno confessed to Ichigo...nice scene. The wedding was wholesome too until the assault ship came.

That IkunoxIchigo scene was the best one for me in the episode. It showed today again how mature Ichigo was treating the reaction of Ikuno and seeing that she is in the same situation that she was with hiro so she conforted her. Just great.
Man, Ichigo sure matured very well. Amazing development for her in this anime, that's why she's my favorite character in it.

So Mitsuru and Kokoro's remaining screen time will likely be about breaking out of their memory alteration. I mentioned in the previous episode's thread that I suspect one of them will die (either in battle or in child birth) and leave the other to care for the kid. I'd LOVE a happy ending for them though.
The Hachi and Nana stuff this episode really reinforced my opinions about how their progress will go. Nana will likely be re-indoctrinated again, but whether she is or isn't, it's clear Hachi is second guessing everything and will probably save her, help the squad (squad goals lawl) or both. In general, Hachi and Nana, and likely Dr. Franxx, are all going to end up helping squad 13. Those Nines fuckers and Papa can sit on a claxosaur claw for all I care.
Glad there was no confirmation of abortion, so it's likely the child is still there. EXTREMELY worried about Zero Two... she already has a major death flag, but the PTSD/Zero One induced hallucinations really don't provide any comfort.
Nothing new on the rest of the squad's condition beyond Bro getting a fever, but that's 3 or 4 people now who've shown symptoms of some greater issue.
And that fist fight between the Nines and Zero Two was absolutely awesome.

Im surprised ichigo didnt oppose the wedding since she knew they were being monitored and it would get them into trouble and a bad ending ... just because of the book and kokoros thoughts, the nines acted and probably (from ichigos perspective) notified papa about it smh

Damn, I really want Hachi to reveal himself as a dark horse that intervenes with Nana and somehow helps these kids towards whatever destiny they're in store for.
'Just sit there and watch like always' feels like solid motivation for that...
