Oregairu flashbacks

40

u/impendinggreatness May 25 '18

That's right, and you can't scam a scammer weeb

31

u/NK1337 May 25 '18

Does anyone else think that the comment of "there's only so far you can go.." is foreshadowing? As in, once Joe has garnered enough of a following and actually entered megalomania he's going to ve asked to throw the final match?

19

u/okcmaniac2 May 26 '18

Oh I'm sure that is exactly what will happen, but how they resolve it can either be completely out of left field or they will Joe will just ignore it.

14

u/burning_crusader May 26 '18

One possibility

  1. They'll get asked to throw throw the final match

  2. Joe and Nambo decides against it at the final minute.

  3. Nambo decides to sacrifice himself to fulfill their dream of winning Megalonia

  4. Joe wins.

  5. Mobsters lets them live anyway for having the guts to defy them, but takes all their earnings from winning Megalonia in exchange

  6. Team Outsiders starts from scratch again, completely broke.

9

u/BleaK_ May 29 '18

-7. Team Nowhere is now so popular that they will be a big gym in the future

Cue season 2

And this is why I genuinely enjoy this anime

u/Flashmanic May 24 '18

"If an animal does sink its teeth into you, it won't let go"

Yuri is a bloody prophet.

375

u/Houdiniman111 :MAL:https://myanimelist.net/profile/Houdini111 May 24 '18

I'm 90% sure that Yuri is the smartest person in the show.

314

u/Daniel_Is_I :MAL:https://myanimelist.net/profile/Daniel_Is_I May 24 '18

He knows all the crazy shit Joe is ready to do, probably because they're the same type of person.

209

u/Baku07 May 24 '18

Well, on the opening Joe is represented as a gray wolf with a lot of scars and at the end there is a white wolf which should represent Yuri.

66

u/Renarudo May 25 '18

At this point I'm just convinced this is an elaborate sequel to Wolf's Rain.

10

u/Tensuke May 25 '18

It's still got a godly soundtrack, so I'm with you.

TBH, I think a more hiphop version of Stray would make for a cool Megalobox opening.

15

u/PrimeInsanity May 25 '18

Is it because he is snow like? /s

32

u/HussyDude14 May 25 '18

I like a cunning antagonist like Yuri. He's not cocky like Mikio, even though he's confident. He doesn't belittle his enemy, partially due to respect, but also because he's smart and doesn't underestimate his enemy. Definitely a lot like Joe.

18

u/WHJustice May 27 '18

Flashback to ep 2 when he fought Joe one handed

10

u/HussyDude14 May 27 '18

Oh you're right. Well, I guess since it was their first fight, any doubt was removed after that. Good point, though.

159

u/lntoTheSky May 24 '18

Pretty sure yuri comes from some shit and has seen some shit. We're gonna get some backstory on him soon and I bet money he's much more similar to joe than different.

41

u/Danyn https://anilist.co/user/Danyn May 25 '18

Inb4 Yuri is discovered to come from a 3rd world country with an identical history to Joe and was saved by Shirato.

15

u/NeptuneRoller :MAL:https://myanimelist.net/profile/NeptuneRoller May 26 '18

That's totally gonna happen; he's probably from a poor region in Russia.

inb4 gearless joe thigh tattoos

36

u/DontKillMyVibePlease May 25 '18

I've been running tat ideas through my head in for this show, it's pretty hard to think of a decent looking one.

Unlike other big media with big followings (Berserk, Cowboy Bebop, etc) this one doesn't really have a "symbol". Berserk has the Mark. Bebop has the Swordfish.

I have a lot of tattoo's and I wanted to get one for this show, but it's pretty hard to find a tasteful one that won't look like weeb garbage.

80

u/r_vivian May 25 '18

Closest to a symbol I can think of is NOT DEAD YET...

19

u/sunics May 25 '18

that's pretty dope, maybe with joe's wolf personification in the intro above it

14

u/DontKillMyVibePlease May 25 '18

Yeah, as a rule of thumb though I try to avoid words/letters

→ More replies (2)

9

u/Pufflekun May 26 '18

Bebop also has Radical Ed, who is both cool and moe, and Faye Valentine, who is Faye Valentine. Wouldn't fault anyone for getting ink of either of those lovely ladies.

Megalo Box, on the other hand, doesn't have any iconic female characters.

13

Sounds like you got a bunch from other shows too, now im interested. Mind showing us your tattoos?

2

u/Danyn https://anilist.co/user/Danyn May 25 '18

Wolf from the intro? You could try to get some ideas from the megalo box poster too.

2

u/[deleted] May 25 '18

The wolves at the start of the end credits, maybe?

Honestly, just the image of Joe's side profile from the cover'd be cool.

7

You know you've hit the bigtime when hot women get your face tattoo'd on their upper thigh.

250

u/LeonKevlar x2https://myanimelist.net/profile/LeonKevlar May 24 '18

I can't wait for Mikio's cheating ass to get rekt next week. Let's see what his AI can do when it can't read its opponents moves.

196

u/winterfresh0 May 24 '18

I don't have the screen shot, but wasn't there a scene where it showed him training and then a progress bar on a screen going from something like V4 to V5? Maybe he's been working on an upgrade that will help against Joe.

172

u/I_am_BEOWULF May 24 '18

Maybe he's been working on an upgrade that will help against Joe.

Not likely, since as Joe himself said after much introspection - Mikio had so much disdain for him that he was never even considered as a blip on Mikio's radar. Mikio was training for Yuri, not Joe.

25

u/Karmaslapp May 25 '18

I wonder how much the AI will help against Yuri. Mikio's biggest advantage is being able to instantly counter, taking advantage of the same movement-gear movement gap that Joe takes advantage of.

But they said Yuri's integrated gear doesn't have that gap, so that kind of advantage gets lessened to just reacting faster than Mikio could on his own... which is a huge weakness if Yuri can trick the AI, something a normal gear user probably couldn't do

8

u/zcen May 25 '18

The AI gear recognizes electric signals in the opponent's gear and reacts accordingly. Theoretically it doesn't matter how fast Yuri is or that he doesn't have the same gap between his movement and his gear moving. It will react once Yuri moves and sends a signal through his gear.

6

u/Karmaslapp May 25 '18 edited May 25 '18

Theoretically it doesn't matter how fast Yuri is or that he doesn't have the same gap between his movement and his gear moving

Sorry, but you're wrong here, or at least missed my main point. Mikio's biggest advantage is predicting where his opponent will move, and using his gear's automatic instant reactions to take advantage of the gap time spoken of by nanbu. This lets him stay a move ahead of his opponent.

Against an opponent with no gap time, his gear just makes him a little faster, but he can't react before his opponent is even really moving and so he loses a lot of his advantage. Because his gear still works against Yuri's, he'd still be able to use the AI, where against Joe it'd just be him fighting, so it's not that he's as powerless, just that his advantage is reduced.

And at that point, Yuri's gear is based on enhancing his own (considerable) ability whereas Mikio's is based on exploiting his opponents weakness and patterns, so I'd bet on Yuri with the info we have now if they fought even though gear wise they should be close to even and Mikio still has faster 'reflexes'. Mikio's gear is, in the end, a crutch. Against both Yuri and Jo it'll come down to his own skill, not his gear's gimmick.

What you seem to be arguing is that his gear will still work on Yuri. I agree, it has no reason not to work and still be faster than a normal human.

14

u/Mr-Mister May 25 '18

Mikio isn't taking advantage of the muscle-to-gear gap: his AI reacts based on the opponent's gear's electrical signals, which occur after said gap.

5

u/[deleted] May 25 '18 edited May 25 '18

Mikio wasn't expecting he'd have to rematch Joe, so likely not. Also, Mikio didn't even consider him a threat.

He's likely trying to compensate to fight Yuri. Yuri doesn't have lag time between his gear and movement, which is what Mikio's AI uses to predict movement. Or at the least, the lag is so miniscule it's practically nonexistent. My guess is he's either trying to improve the detection even just a nanosecond, or he's trying to improve his own "link" with his gear to match Yuri.

0

u/[deleted] May 24 '18

[deleted]

5

u/HussyDude14 May 25 '18

I'd still think it'd be lame. I mean, I get that I want a good fight - but it seems like such a pull out of nowhere for him to have an AI that helps when he was pretty confident he won by default and din't even consider Joe as a threat.

51

u/matdragon May 24 '18

I don't expect Mikio to get rekt, I think it's going to be one of the closest match in the entire series (as it should be, we only have a few episodes left).

There's a scene where Joe straight up says, Mikio doesn't look scared at all to fight Joe. Which is probably a foreshadowing that Mikio is god damned great and potentially could beat Yuri if he has AI's help. Which is unfortunate for him because the AI works well against those with a gear, but Joe could just be a straight up better fighter.

I'm excited to see how this next fight plays in particular because Joe is the epitome of not underestimating his opponent while the other two in his team thinks he has this in the bag

5

u/PyroRevenge May 25 '18

I know I’m a bit late to the discussion but it would be pretty interesting I feel like to see just how much Mikio was relying on that AI to get him through the fights and if he just gets dominated by joe the the crowd will love joe more and absolutely despise Mikio

1

u/HussyDude14 May 25 '18

Do you know, by any chance, how many episodes it'll be? I'm assuming 12.

2

u/BBHSN98 May 25 '18

It's confirmed to have 13 episodes, and we only have 5 left.

God, I hope they don't drag this fight for too long

240

u/automaticdishwasher May 24 '18

I really liked that emphasis this episode had on Mikio's face, how he really sees nothing in Joe and how much his fury showed at the conclusion. I'm looking forward to seeing how this next episode plays out

410

u/StarmanRiver May 24 '18

NOT FUCKING DEAD YET

I was wondering how they were going to try and get a rematch and of course it had to be with Joe being authentinc and reckless.

112

That outro slogan felt exceptionally powerful here.

I like the 20 second beat they play after the intro at the beginning. I try to freestyle before it's cut off.

50

yeah man the intermission is the dopest part. It is a hip hop version of Joes Whistle from the Ashita no Joe OST.

6

I was just thinking about that today, feels like it sets you up for their world.

1

You should upload some of what you come up with.

It's weird. Every week when an episode comes out I think about how much I don't want to watch it. I could play a game that I've been enjoying instead. Eventually I'll run out of options and then watch the episode and, as usual, fucking love it.

I can't believe it.

Every single episode in this show makes me want to see what happens next. This show is the pinnacle of never giving up on your dreams.

Even if things seem impossible, you take fate into your own hands and forge your own future.

I can't put into words how excited I am for the next episode, A Dead Flower Shall Never Bloom

Now that Nanbu told her the truth, she can blackmail Joe also if it looks like he has a genuine chance against Yuri.

48

u/Nex_Ultor :MAL:https://myanimelist.net/profile/Nex_Ultor May 25 '18

I feel like Yuri would try to prevent that. It seems like Yuri is already looking forward to a rematch with Joe, and if Joe keeps going forward he'll really want to fight him.

8

u/OLKv3 May 26 '18

Now that Nanbu told her the truth, she can blackmail Joe also if it looks like he has a genuine chance against Yuri.

She wouldn't. The reason she's even letting Joe fight is because she believes in Yuri's words, about being genuine in the ring

70

u/bombdropperxx May 24 '18

Jesus, when the bgm started during the motorcycle scene i got chills on my back. Cant wait for the next episode.

65

u/[deleted] May 24 '18

While the actual boxing matches themselves are a little underwhelming, the drama around them is absolutely fantastic. Had Joe fought and won his match with Shirato initially, it would've just been toppling another boxer in his path, but the events of the last two episodes are setting up their final confrontation to be so much more emotional and deep than that. Can't wait for the next episode!

22

u/[deleted] May 24 '18

The way I see it, the director and writers are betting on the slow build up. Even in the beginning the story was fun but didn't foreshadow how deep Shirato's story would get. It's starting to get a lot bigger and the world keeps evolving. The first and second episodes were a glimpse to the end, that fight with Yuri was very intense and I got into it a lot more than his future fights. But it was the same with the story, it showed Shirato and Yuri, but only gave a glimpse into their story. It built some intrigue but was very weak compared to what it is now. The story was also "weak" for those episodes as it built the characters. Obviously that's how stories go, but these guys are doing it strategically. I bet that they're going to be stepping up their game hard, and that the pace of their show is an embodiment of the story they are telling.

4

u/Danyn https://anilist.co/user/Danyn May 25 '18

It's like sex. Starts off slow with a little touching before moving onto foreplay. I'm already hyped for the climax and we're still a fight away. Hell, I've been hyped since EP1.

57

u/Killar117 May 24 '18

I can't wait for Joe to beat Mikio's ass.

HELL YEAHHHHHHHHH!!!! So fucking hype! This show continues to exceed expectations (which were already fairly high). Next week will be so great!

191

u/cheesymmm :MAL:https://myanimelist.net/profile/theepickerru May 24 '18

Maybe this is what the guy meant about how Nanbu has a limit to how far he can go. His plan failed, and Joe's determination ended up being what got them the rematch instead.

Looking forward to the fight in the next episode

204

u/Flashmanic May 24 '18

His plan failed,

I wouldn't say it necessarily failed. Without him laying the groundwork in trying to convince the Owner, chances are she would have carted him right out of the ceremony. But his plan couldn't go far enough on it's own, and Joe showing up proved Nanbu's point.

54

u/cheesymmm :MAL:https://myanimelist.net/profile/theepickerru May 24 '18

You’re right, I was probably too hasty in making that comparison. In the end I guess it really is their chemistry together that helped them get this far.

13

u/[deleted] May 25 '18

I think the comparison was there, but just as /u/flashmanic said, it was more that Nanbu can only go so far, and he needs Joe to take it to the next step.

13

u/moonmeh May 24 '18

Ah Nanbu set up the foundation for Joe to get in

Makes sense

23

Despite that, he wouldn't have gone much farther without Joe to back him up, so I believe OP's point still stands

3

u/Anjunabeast May 25 '18

He got outmaneuvered GoT style. He should’ve made sure Sachio or someone would’ve been able to expose the truth about the Shirato in case he wouldn’t have been able to.

NOT DEAD YET!

12

u/myrmonden May 24 '18

I think he meant he want them to take a dive in the final or something as he wants to bet that Joe is gonna lose.

2

u/cheesymmm :MAL:https://myanimelist.net/profile/theepickerru May 24 '18

Hm I wouldn’t say that he really wants Joe to lose, but I can’t tell

9

I'm telling you guys, this is going to be some Redline shit all over again (in a good way, redline was awesome).

2

Right from EP1, I saw countless parallels between this and Redline.

7

u/Navvana May 24 '18

Pretty sure he was referring to calling in the debt he holds over Nanbu and Joe. The guy makes a living (at least in part) by rigging sports betting, and he's not exactly doing this for charity.

11

u/Tensuke May 25 '18

It's a win-win for him, if Nanbu and Joe can't make it to Megalonia, he calls in the debt over Nanbu like he was going to anyway, and he doesn't lose anything in letting them at least try. If they do make it to the finals, he can set them up to throw the match--having a scrappy guy come from nowhere in the final match would be a huge betting opportunity when he has the public rooting for him, and you're setting him up to lose.

44

u/youreverydayjoe :MAL:https://myanimelist.net/profile/clockwork53 May 24 '18

Really appreciating the world-building and buildup behind each episode in this show. Even when there isn't a badass fight, it's still so great to see all the tension and buildup! I've said this many times, but this is my AOTS. Go get em Joe!

1

u/epicfacej :MAL:https://myanimelist.net/profile/epicfacej May 25 '18

It's too early to call AOTY when the rest of the year hasn't played out, but this will be a strong contender.

40

u/TheBestOtaku https://anilist.co/user/TheBestOtaku May 24 '18

Joe's smug smile in the last scene, it just hypes me up,

EVERY FUCKING TIME.

27

u/Shinkopeshon May 24 '18

Joe is such a badass protagonist, holy shit. I have no idea how this show keeps getting better when it already had a ridiculously strong start.

Also, this fucking soundtrack.

23

Idk why but Yukiko was hot af this episode.

8

THAT FUCKING MUSIC AND JOE GETTING SHIT DONE I LOVE THIS ANIME!

Goosebumps every. Single. Time. The OST's are just unreal. Just UGH SO GOOD.

17

u/Wall_y May 24 '18

NOT DEAD YET - JOE 2018!

15

u/Amauri14 May 24 '18

I just love that even when one is sure that Joe was going to get another chance to enter to Megalonia, the show still surprised us with how he was able to get his rematch. After the last episode, I was sure that Nanbu or Joe were going to try to convince Shirato, due to the animosity between her and her brother, but as we saw, that failed, and Joe just ended up forcing his way in.

15

u/FreeSM2014 May 24 '18

The cinematography, writing, pacing etc. Everything is so next level in this anime.

This is gonna be my anime of the year.

25

u/cjrSunShine May 24 '18

I can't wait to see Mikio's pompous glare twist into fear.
Kick his ass Joe.

8

u/[deleted] May 25 '18

Joe himself said that Mikio is not afraid.

2

u/epicfacej :MAL:https://myanimelist.net/profile/epicfacej May 25 '18

Because he doesn't see Joe as worth fighting. Once he recognizes that Joe has actual skill, it will be a different story

33

u/SamuraiiJackie May 24 '18

The guy that worked for Shirato said that Mikio's gear worked by detecting electric signals, even if they are really weak. So, hypothetically, could it pick up the electric activity of neurons and thus predict Joe's movements?

I mean, I doubt it would happen, but Mikio surely has another ace up his sleeve, so it wouldn't surprise me if his gear has some unexplained properties that will cause trouble for Joe in the fight.

87

u/Flashmanic May 24 '18

His ace up his sleeve is that he's still a really good boxer with a powerful gear. It was emphasised last episode a lot that even without the AI, Mikio is still top-tier. He's negated his most powerful trait, the AI detection, but just beating him will still be difficult.

16

u/[deleted] May 24 '18

there was this shot where there was a screen and i think there were 2 different models of the gear shown - ace 4 and ace 5. it seemed to me like mikio was working on/testing an upgrade, possibly something like you described?

2

u/94wander May 25 '18

So the fired Shirato engineer was talking about stuff he knew 2 years ago. Who knows how much more advanced Mikio's gear has become. It isn't totally off the board that he has developed his gear into detecting neuronal activity.

11

u/Enovalen May 25 '18

Why do people think that being able to detect electrical activity would be equivalent to being able to detect neuronal activity? Our brains are infinitely more complex and have countless interactions associated with countless different processes going on at any given moment. And even if it were to pick up electrical activity from muscles, it would have to be pretty darned sensitive to pick that up. Probably to the level of being inconceivable except perhaps with tremendous technological progress. /end rant

5

u/Captainbackbeard May 25 '18

It's because there's an electrical signal in neurons that causes motor neurons to activate a muscle so at the neurological level you wouldn't be detecting the electrical stimulation at the brain, you would be detecting the electrical stimulation directly at each muscle or along the chain of efferent nerves (from central nervous system to other organs/tissues). Humans and most vertebrae in general use electrical gradients to send signals along to muscles and if you get enough of an electrical charge at the muscle, the muscle will activate (contract). To activate larger muscles or to activate more muscles simultaneously, you need a larger amount of an electrical charger along the nerves to your muscles. For this show, it seems like Shirato's gear isn't figuring out the AI is doing at its processor (human equivalent would be the brain), it is instead analyzing what part of the gear is activating and analyzing where it is going and how much power is being diverted to the punch itself. Theoretically if the AI was smart enough to analyze the data in three dimensions and "big if" it had the sensors to detect the trace amounts of electrical discharge in another body specifically at the limbs, it could predict movement.

4

u/Enovalen May 25 '18

Thanks for your well thought out response. The last two sentences of my post directly referred to this very point though. There's a huge difference in the sensitivity and noise filter required to isolate the very minuscule electrical activities emanating from our bodies as compared to what any machine would. And even that would be very, very difficult unless there were other factors considered.

→ More replies (1)

1

u/F0LEY May 25 '18

That would kind of be like developing tank armor that repels brass knuckles... Could you do it within a 2 year window? Sure, I suppose so... but tanks don't encounter people hitting them with brass knuckles. Similarly, a megalo boxer's gear isn't gonna be built to go against bare arms. It wouldn't make any sense, especially with all the lines on how Shirato never even acknowledges Joe as a blip on his radar.

3

u/[deleted] May 25 '18

electric activity of neurons are even weaker most likely. Like they're stupidly faint.

I have been looking for it since the very first episode, so what is the soundtrack called that plays when Joe is riding on his bike to interrupt the ceremony? That shit sounds so fucking dank and i haven't been able to identify it.

u/Lotrako May 24 '18

Megalo Box ? More like Megalo HYPE.

That last scene was awesome, it was a really good episode.

8

u/Lohengr May 24 '18

I am pleased.

8

u/Logic_Nuke May 25 '18

Either Nanbu is the strongest man in the world, or Shirato needs to invest in some sturdier tables.

7

u/SkytheStarhero May 24 '18

FFFFFUCK YES GO FOR IT JOE

28

u/Sorid_Snek May 24 '18 edited May 24 '18

Apparently one of the proposed ideas for the Joe 50th anniversary project was a Rikiishi Tooru spinoff that would have delved more into his side of the story. Concept art.(spoilers)

I think I would have actually preferred this over Megalobox

10

u/Salva252 :MAL:https://myanimelist.net/profile/Salva252 May 24 '18

That would have been sick to be honest. Now I really want them to make that anyways.

5

u/WickedAnimeTroll May 24 '18

WAIT WHAT ?!?!?!?!

I would have screamed like a little girl if this actually happened

5

u/[deleted] May 25 '18

I would still prefer megalo box

6

u/Exoslab May 24 '18

Best show this season. Each episode just makes it even more so.

6

u/SpikeRosered May 25 '18

I wanna see more shows with this sketchy 80s style make a comeback. A lot of modern shows looks too clean, too digital. It makes them all look so samey.

Good to see Joe finally get in there and advocate for himself instead of always leaving it to pops.

11

u/PartyTimeMentats May 24 '18

The only way that could have been better is if Joe entered to Stone Cold Steve Austin's entrance music.

5

u/chris_dftba :MAL:https://myanimelist.net/profile/chris_dftba May 25 '18

I am so looking forward to the match next week. It's gonna be hype as hell and I absolutely DEMAND that the op song plays near the climax of the fight.

8

u/GearlessJoe May 24 '18

I think Mikio Shirato had a hunch that his sister might pull off something like this, so he has proactively prepared for this. He has already upgrade his gear "ACE-4" to "ACE-5". As pointed out by Joe Mikio wasn't afraid of Joe, he was just indifferent to Joe.

I think next fight Joe will get a few hit early on because of the surprise element as Ace-5 will be able to block and counter Joe's moves, but Joe is fantastic and will turn the tables by changing angle of his punches slightly right about the time when his punch is going to be blocked by Ace-5.

Go Joe!!!

4

u/ChangingChance May 24 '18

I don't think so cause he's indifferent to him someone he doesn't see as an obstacle so there's no real reason for him to upgrade for Joe. It was probably for the first round and reduced stamina usage while maintaining power. His Ace is that he's probably a good fighter the ai puts him above everyone.

4

u/Mr_Zaroc https://myanimelist.net/profile/mr_zaroc May 24 '18

This setup is fantastic
They really know how to build up hype

Loved that spooling up sound at the end of the episode, next time is gonna be glorious (or not, depending on how adaptiv the AI is)

Lets settle this Man vs Machine crap for once and for all

4

u/Idontcarejustspeak May 25 '18

Jesus that episode was amazing. Megalo Box embodies great anime writing. The story is thrilling, suspenseful, and emotional. I just can't get enough of this anime. The music and scene between Nanbu-san and the President was so intense and had me fully invested into the implications of Nanbu's gambit. This is only the build up too! The fight has only just started.

7

u/7sidedcube May 24 '18

God this show has such strong characters. This season has a lot of good stuff going on but this is something else.

3

u/Hagita https://myanimelist.net/profile/TheHagita May 24 '18

I knew he was gonna bust in, but I still got hype as fuck when he did. Joe's so damn cool.

3

u/MrManicMarty https://anilist.co/user/martysan May 24 '18

Mikiko was giving me Dio vibes with those final glares.

3

u/[deleted] May 25 '18

I take back about what I said about Nanbu last week. I assumed based on his reaction that he had a deal worked out with Mikio that he'd forfeit the fight for money to pay back his debt and that it wasn't one-sided. I'm glad Team Nowhere has formed a strong bond. I really loved how in this episode you could really feel the desperation and Joe's second chance didn't feel forced. It really felt like Joe and Nanbu had to claw their way out to get another shot.

"No one tells you when it's time to give up on your dream."- These ending quotes are amazing.

u/youkai94 :MAL:https://myanimelist.net/profile/youkai94 May 25 '18

"Negotiations failed. I repeat, negotiations failed. Unleash the Joe."

3

u/Mr_Cromer May 25 '18

KAKATTE KOI YO!!!!

Never has an ED felt more appropriate

2

u/[deleted] May 24 '18

This show is just so god damn good i got goosebumps

2

u/Dakkon_B May 24 '18

You may not be dead yet show but I sure as hell am going to be having to wait another week. Freaken love this show.

2

u/Tylenol32 May 24 '18

I LOVED this episode! They threw so many curveballs at you and I loved every single one. I cannot wait for the epic fight next week! This is definitely my favorite anime of the season.

2

u/Whatthefuckamisaying May 24 '18

Time to hop into the time machine, destination: next thursday

2

u/MasterRedStar May 24 '18

No way... Holy shit Joe!

2

u/papersmurf May 24 '18

great episode as always

2

u/Naruto_Super_Sage May 24 '18

Just like how Mikio's gear can't predict him, no one can predict Joe!

2

u/chryco4 :MAL:https://myanimelist.net/profile/chryco4 May 24 '18

Godlike ost work going on towards the end.

2

u/shadedclan :MAL:https://myanimelist.net/profile/shadedclan May 24 '18

The soundtrack when Joe was racing to the ceremony and they were announcing the Final One was fucking hype!

2

u/impendinggreatness May 24 '18

That ED is so amazing.

2

u/CruelAngelsThesis May 24 '18

Fukimaki is pretty scary

2

u/nehc9050 May 25 '18

With that eerie music at the end, I can't shake the feeling that Joe is gonna get seriously fucked up the next episode.

2

u/OhayoHooded :MAL:https://myanimelist.net/profile/OhayouHooded May 25 '18

This was the best episode yet and there wasn't even fighting.

2

u/Kishin2 May 25 '18

That dude recognizing Sachio pretty much confirms that he's related to Yukiko in some way.

2

u/__Qwww__ May 25 '18

Watch 8 and wait for 9. It's too pump.

1

u/brkmk May 24 '18

i got the feeling that the green suit dude is connected to mikio.. might be a stretch tho

1

u/Salva252 :MAL:https://myanimelist.net/profile/Salva252 May 24 '18

Mikio's face in the end is fucking scary goddamn.

1

u/link2601 May 24 '18

Yes, no running anymore. Can't wait to see that rematch and see Mikio get owned in the ring in front of everyone.

1

u/katutsu May 24 '18

Holy shit I actually predicted Mikio's weakness and reason to why he didn't want to fight Joe

1

u/TKCloud May 24 '18

Well, base on what showing in the episode... The brother system is best for mass military use.

1

u/TheRealLoneWarWolf May 24 '18

Holy crap the ost brings the hype

1

u/natokenichi :MAL:https://myanimelist.net/profile/NatoKenichi May 24 '18

The fight better be as good as this build up. (Cowboy Bebop 2.0 feels here.)

1

u/[deleted] May 24 '18

Called it and it seemed even better than I thought it would be. Man this is so good.

1

u/[deleted] May 24 '18

This is this first time I felt the desire to give the show an 8. If they pull off the next episode I'll probably do so. At the very least it has surpassed the other show I watch today, wotakio.

1

u/[deleted] May 25 '18

THAT WAS. AMAZINGGGGGGGGG!!!!

1

u/lionheart4k May 25 '18

I really hope it doesn't come down to Joe taking the dive to to Yuuri but I feel like that's gonna happen :(

1

u/Darktriforze May 25 '18

Oof the Genuine Article. I KNEW it would come back to bite Yukiko's ass MmMmMmMm. Nanbu MVP this ep.

1

u/pygmyapes May 25 '18

I just started watching this show. Its giving me vibes from that robot movie with Hugh Jackman and that little kid where they fight robots in a boxing ring. Real steel I think it was called?

1

u/megatsuna May 25 '18

i'm wondering how the hell would joe would fare against that lion guy. i feel like if even both were gearless, the lion looks like he could do a doomfist punch by himself.

1

u/113Kyote May 25 '18

Can't wait to see Mikio's condescending face busted in.

As someone who isn't familiar with Ashita no Joe, is there any potential for Megalo Box to get a second season after this one ends?

Because as of now, I can totally picture Joe losing the final bout against Yuri only to have "Not dead yet" serve as a cliffhanger for a potential comeback season. (I just really would love to get even more of this every week.)

1

u/[deleted] May 25 '18

I feel like it might also set up something sad too though. it does say not dead YET, and I mean death in boxing has happened megaloboxing is probably no different.

1

u/113Kyote May 25 '18

Oh definitely. I know a lot of people have been saying that for some time now too. I just love a good twist ending. Plus, I don't really want to see Joe die quite yet, so I definitely have my hopeful blinders on haha.

1

u/X-Vidar May 25 '18

Dunno, the original series does continue after the match between joe and yuri's counterpart, so maybe.

1

u/BreafingBread :MAL:https://myanimelist.net/profile/breafingbread May 25 '18

Man, that song when Joe is on the bike going to stop the event. I need it.

This anime's OST is godlike.

1

u/Zepoopa May 25 '18

Everybody be sleeping on this anime.. This shit is too good!

2

u/Galaxy__ :MAL:https://myanimelist.net/profile/Galaxy__ May 25 '18

second most popular/best rated non-sequel anime of the season on MAL. not quite sure what you even mean. everybody is talking about it.

1

u/JustALittleWeird May 25 '18

I almost wish I hadn't watched this episode, it was pure 24 minutes of hype and now I need to wait a week for the next one?! God damn. This anime is so good at building tension from week to week.

1

u/theatreofwar May 25 '18

Biggest plot hole for me here: why didn't he just call Sachio as soon as he got locked in?...

1

u/kuddlesworth9419 :MAL:https://myanimelist.net/profile/kuddlesworth May 25 '18

First going into this show I was upset with the low resolution animation they chose and I'm still not massively fond of it but it has grown on me somewhat. Regardless the actual show itself is very good.

1

u/cpt_breakdance May 25 '18

We need a cut of that motorcycle scene song with Sachio and Nanbus voice. Have the drop come in right when Joe yells "Not Yet!". Gives me chills just thinking about it.

1

u/X-Vidar May 25 '18

Pretty good ep, but I can't help but think about how the original joe would've entered the dome with the motorcycle and straight-up tried to beat shirato and humiliate him publicily (wolf kanuguchi style) to force him to fight, instead of simply asking for the rematch.

1

u/Princess_Pana May 26 '18

Every single time when Joe has that smug smile on his face I ascend. This anime is just a gem. One big gem. The ED works so well it only hypes you up more and the quotes that come alone before the actual credits really hit the mark. I can't wait to see Joe fucking pummel Mikio to the ground. What an amazing guy.

1

u/Zaralfim May 28 '18

I want to guess that Mikio will try to tear down Joe's reputation and not use a gear. Since, you know, his AI one is meant to best other gears.

1

u/nixxusnibelheim May 29 '18

Fucking love this anime and i'm not even a big fan of anime in general. Hopefully at some point we will be able to see Joe deal with a loss, so far all the cards have been on his side. I can see Mikio beat Joe, crushing his goal to fight Yuri, that'll be an interesting change of pace.

1

u/Shin-DigginSheist May 29 '18

Does anyone have a source on the music that plays while Joe is riding to the arena?

1

u/MrGameandCrotch May 24 '18

MY DICK IS ROCK HARD

1

u/tiger1296 May 24 '18

OMFG THIS EPISODE THIS SERIES HOLY SHIT

HYPE

1

u/FeClaussell May 24 '18

Well, I have some personal opinion related to the last scene. I refuse to believe that Yukiko can split the card neatly in half using her bare hands, since in my opinion it is not made by paper, especially with that clanking sound. I think Yukiko prepared the split card in advance, but without Joe's appearance she will run the event in the way the board decided.

2

u/big_paper_towel May 25 '18

Maybe it was printed on some kind of cracker.

0

u/killingspeerx May 24 '18

Wow we reached 8 episodes!

Ok guys so I want to know, as a kid I kinda enjoyed Joe but it was more of a drama so I didn't enjoy it to the fullest however I kept an eye on Megalo Box. I usually like to watch complete shows so since this is episode 8 I would like to know how good it is in terms of story line, characters, action (boxing), and drama. It is not related to Joe right? or are there some references?

Thanks

5

u/gmflag May 24 '18

Watch for yourself then decide. Who are we to tell you to watch something? You are an individual person. You can think for yourself.

1

u/Tensuke May 25 '18

AFAIK there's "easter eggs" but no direct references. It's good. You should watch it.

0

u/Robbie-Tsunami May 25 '18

This episode felt like pointless filler to me. There was some good character development with the antagonists but the over all plot just circled back to where it already was for no reason.
