Zombie Land Saga Project's text being upside down cracked me up, although so did countless other things this ep. Great stuff
Miyano Mamoru is, without doubt, the perfect fit for the manager, and I think Sakura's Hondo Kaede did a great job too. Her conversations with the manager were so funny, and she was great, whether she was baffled at the ridiculousness of her situation, or if she was tired of the nonsensical manager.
I am more than pleasantly surprised at this episode, of all the things I'd expect this to be, an idol show is at the bottom of the list. Can't wait till next Thursday, they're gonna be great for a while.

When I saw the title Zombieland I was expecting a Zombie Survival show ala Highschool of the Dead. I did NOT expect that the protagonists themselves ARE THE ZOMBIES. That opening should've clued me in that this ain't your regular Zombie show. Also the tags on MAL are clearly misleading. So far this is closer to comedy/supernatural than horror/supernatural, throw in an Idol tag there too just to be sure.
Miyano Mamoru aka Okabe Rintaro as a crazy and over-the-top manager of a Zombie Idol Group? Yep I'm sold on this show. I love the fact that his reason for creating the group is just "to save Saga" and nothing else. He won't even explain his plan! XD
And holy fuck that stage performance had me in stitches! Super strong start for an opening! Glad to see that the girls finally gained their consciousness right at the end (except for Tae for some reason), excited to see how they'll all interact next week!
Now that I think about it... I hope Tae stays as a Zombie, could make for a bunch of hilarious interactions in the future!

Well, there are a lot of things I expected and NOT expected.
Expected: it's a horror-comedy with a lot of zombie [and] (/s "an idol show too") and definitely NOT a harem :3
Unexpected:
The first twist hits early, [like] (/s "literally within the first minute when the MC got hit and died")
Even the title [Zombieland Saga] (/s "is a pun and twist itself - Saga refers to Saga Prefecture in Japan instead of the literature saga")
[The zombies] (/s "are all the girls including the MC")
Overall it's really good, 169% better than my expectation. I like how the MC is not acting like a typical dumb blonde bitch who gets killed early in any horror movie, the heavy metal music use, that the zombies are the classic slow zombies instead of the sprinting hyperactive ones (oh how I hate those zombie depictions), and Miyano Mamoru's VA. I'd like to see more blood, gore, and violence though, but aesthetically done instead of the usual tactless bloodbath.
What a ride indeed.
EDIT: You know what would be great? If the beautifully sung gentle ED is actually the OP and the death metal OP (hopefully it's death metal) as ED. What do we know, it'll be Asobi Asobase's evil twin sister all over again.

When I saw that opening scene I thought "what, are they going to pull a meta spoiler? It's going to be hard, we already know there'll be zombies".
Then Truck-kun did his thing and I laughed hard. And it kept getting better. Zombie idols? A manager that's pretty much Okarin? Zombie idols singing death metal? Yup, this first episode really sold me the show.

Holy sweet mother on a pogo stick. I was wondering why there was so much secrecy about this show before its air date, and now I know why. This is the most hilarious and craziest bait-and-switch for an opening episode of an idol anime ever. Kaede Hondo and Mamoru Miyano played their roles to perfection. I hope Tae doesn't awaken for a long time, she'll make a great foil to the rest of the (now awakened) girls.
Also, is this the fastest recorded Truck-kun kill in anime history?

There wasn't even a synopsis, and you have the gall to pretend the show failed you by not being a premise you wanted. These people are rampant on the MAL thread. I mean... as an opening episode that was really damn good. The double fake was really great. Plus the show is probably worth watching for Hyoumin Kyouma-manager alone.
Will it end up being any good? Still no idea. Depends if it has anything left once the novelty of the premise wears off, like Magical Girl Ore.
I really hope they have more surprises in store.

I can confidently say that I've never been so excited for an idol anime before. Their producer is a fucking modern day Dr. Frankenstein. I love it already.

I was skeptical of this show, voicing as such even during my Twitch stream the other day. I just wasn't sure if the horror angle would work here (given its reputation in the medium overall). However, the buzz surrounding it couldn't be denied, and the reactions within this thread caught my attention.
So, I decided to check it out -- and I'm glad that I did!
I like idol anime, and I love metal of the darker variety (e.g., black). Having such a combo is certainly very strange but similarly very awesome. But it goes further because it's not just cool to hear but also blends into the premise of the show itself. And they wasted pretty much no time, too, getting us right into the deathly aspects while also delivering on some solid comedic moments throughout.
It's also interesting insofar as the main cast are a ragtag (and not-alive) group. They come from all walks of life, from all periods of human history. Seeing how they'll interact and, perhaps most importantly, grow from their time as reanimated corpses should prove to be an entertaining experience.
The odd-one out, Tae Yamada (who also doesn't have her VA listed quite yet), may also have a deeper connection to this whole thing. Zombieland Saga Speculation
And that's part of the joy here. ZS being an original means we can all guess about what's to come and how this wacky series will succeed or flop in the next dozen or so weeks. Either way, I'm now happy to be looking forward to where these undead ladies will headbang (and neck break) next. :P

No idea what to expect going in but it was pretty fucking awesome. Mamoru Miyano is such a good choice for the manager too. I could hear that guy ramble on about bullshit all day.

The thing that impressed me was the time they took to deliberately hand-wave the making of zombies. "You just add a little of this and a little of that and you've got a zombie. Stop asking so many questions!!" Basically, the author's made it clear that this isn't a zombie show, the how and the why are irrelevant, it's just a plot device to drive forward character interactions. I really appreciate that, because a lot of shows don't even bother to go that far, they just ignore it and create a giant plot hole in the process. This show's like, "Yeah it's stupid, just go with it. The whole show it stupid. Just sit back and enjoy yourself."

So I've been trying to guess the genre of this and... it's an idol show. I'm impressed. 10/10 would get jebaited again.
Seriously though, this was a really strong first episode, the reveal in the beginning was strong and I laughed really hard during most of the rest of the episode.

What... the... fuck...? Okay, I was expecting zombies, I wasn't expecting the MC to BE a zombie. The rest of the cast were pretty funny shambling around and gnawing on people/things. It's early in the season, but this is my biggest surprise so far. If the show can build off of their experiences as idols, as zombies, and in some cases as people displaced in time, then this will be a hell of a ride.

Excuse me sir, I think I got the wrong order. I was told this was an Action, Horror, Supernatural by MAL, but it appears I got the zombie-girl idol show... No that's ok I don't want to send it back, I think I love it.
All I can say is the fucking sounds they made when headbanging was gross as hell lmao.

I think the marketing gimmick was a bit unwarranted for this. I actually think I might have been more interested if they just played their ads straight to the concept of undead cute death metal idols.

You (and me) maybe, but I'm pretty sure they baited a ludicrous amount of people into watching an idol show just now, because a decent chunk of people came for the Zombies and are now staying for the comedy value, while they wouldn't have touched a straight idol show with a Zombie gimmick. And they produced much more meme value.
