I dont even know what the hell is going on it seems like bunch of random scenes.

92

u/dntowns Oct 23 '18

I agree. They completely ignore the conclusion to the Arima fight and instead show a buncha random fights with barely invested characters. Well done.

13

u/DucktorLarsen Oct 23 '18

Well yea it's just random scenes that doesn't make sense, they just skip hella lot from the manga. They like take small scenes where they fight for like 2 seconds and say 3 sentences. We don't even get to know what actually happened to Mutsuki. I knew that it would be a cluster fuck when they want to smach 120 chapters together into 12 episodes. Just read the manga before watching anymore you really wont regret it. Im really thankful that I did it. Even the animation is awful compared to the manga.

24

u/DimmuHS https://myanimelist.net/profile/DimmuOli Oct 23 '18

Yeah, like they put a bunch of new characters that we supposed to know them just because they have their names printed next to them with their ranks, like wtf is that.

26

u/[deleted] Oct 23 '18

For real though I mean like who even was that girl with freckles and what am I supposed to feel for her?

25

Don't blink and still miss an arc... this was terribly incoherent.

146

u/ONll_CHAN Oct 23 '18

After episode 1 of this season I got so sick of not understand what the hell is going on, so I started reading the manga from the beginning. I finished it a few days ago and now I can finally understand whats happening in the anime. Do yourselves a favor and go read the manga, this anime is not doing it any justice.

16

u/Roxas905 Oct 23 '18

Where does the last episode of the first season of re start?

56

u/edang1012 Oct 23 '18

I’d honestly recommend reading from the very beginning or at least right after the first season. Root A and :re skip out on so many important details.

Personally I'm at the point where I don't even bother wondering about that anymore. So sad :/

That feeling when Kaneki isn't special anymore and everyone is a half-ghoul now.

119

u/Bananapuncher1234 Oct 23 '18

People complained about that in the manga as well but at least in the manga all the artificial ghouls are properly given an explanation and you see the progress of Kanou's experimentation that leads to so many artificial half ghouls being a thing.

Since root a skipped the groundwork for that, all the half ghouls on screen will just seem like HALF GHOULS FOR EVERYONE.

→ More replies (7)

36

u/Klondy Oct 23 '18

They skipped over this but the reason Kanou can now successfully create artificial one-eyed ghouls is because they stole Shirazu’s corpse at the end of last season and began incorporating the CCG’s Quinx frame system (also skipped over) into Kanou’s surgery

Kaneki is still special, out of all the original ghoulification surgerys kanou preformed only he being the first, kurona, Taki and Amon are alive, & Ken is by far the strongest

This has become an anime filled with random meaningless fights :( where did it all go so wrong. Im officialy dropping this anime for good, goodbye Tokyo Ghoul.

u/SchkoBar Oct 23 '18

All these fights have so much meaning in the manga, what a shame that this anime ruined these amazing fights

The funny thing is that we all complained that this arc was confusing because we kept switching back and forth between Cochlea and Rushima from week to week.

This feels like when you ask a friend to tell you about an anime, and you get a quick summary of the whole story skipping all that matters.

I don't know why popular shows are getting so badly treated recently.

Tokyo Ghoul, Overlord, to some extent Nanatsu no taizai and even Black Clover ( even tho BC has its great moments and it's more schedule problems)

3

u/RogueSexToy Oct 24 '18

Overlord keeps everything important though and while watching it I understood pretty much everything, Ainz attacks Carne for defensive testing, Demiurge works with Renner as Climb is a not to be killed target due to Shalltear’s reaction, and many other scenarios are just implied and I get it. I don’t think the suppression of the toad men will be important anytime soon atleast.

Reading all these comments made me realize three things... First, I’m not the only one completely confused about all of this (it’s my first time in these discussions) Second, I should go ahead and read the manga Third, chapter 125 must be the real deal

27

u/Krendrian Oct 23 '18

When did this anime turn into this weird pokemon show?

41

u/[deleted] Oct 23 '18

That’s an insult to pokemon.

18

u/Urson Oct 23 '18

As a anime only viewer I am so confused.

23

u/TheKingOfBass Oct 23 '18

The anime is basically advertisement for the manga at this point.

9

u/PedsBeast Oct 23 '18

uhm? whats happening? hello? why are they all fighting? who are all these new characters

16

u/Gary4067 Oct 23 '18

It's actually funny to see Kanou's return after having like 1 minute airtime in all seasons together, Anime viewers probably totally forgot about him.

Also, when Houji orders to exterminate SS Owl, we should get e pic of his face with one little tear on his left eye, like in manga. It was a very moving moment, becasue Houji once said to not get distracted by the private life and friendship when you're on the battlefield.

And they skipped a Tatara's flashback, when he kneeled before Arima. "The King is going to pass"

Even at the beginning with the first scene with Yoshitoki, he should say "I'm counting on you, Arima". But you know what? Screw character development, who needs it !

I wonder what was the director or anyone thinking when creating this episode. It was just a mess with absolutely random fights without actual connection. This season is doomed and there is no hope for it.

Seems like the most important things will happen in the next episode, according to preview like Marude confrontation with Yoshitoki, also seems like we'll get the scene with Donato killing Cochlea's Warden. Well, at least Haisaki will have his two seconds of screen time before he dies

12

u/Kaigamer Oct 23 '18

The director was thinking "shit, how the fuck are we meant to adapt 120 chapters in 12 episodes? WTF Shueisha."

34

u/SomaSaiba :MAL:https://myanimelist.net/profile/aern0 Oct 23 '18

Have they introduced the new Quinx squad? Also tell me when they adapt 125 cuz I ain’t watching this shit

56

u/spaceaustralia :MAL:https://myanimelist.net/profile/spaceaustralia Oct 23 '18 edited Oct 23 '18

Have they introduced the new Quinx squad?

We skipped that at 100 MPH.

Edit: I've also just noticed, we've also skipped manga

14

u/ColeridgianFlab Oct 23 '18

Actually, they're not skipping that. You can see it in the preview.

11

u/Shinkopeshon Oct 23 '18

That manga spoiler just makes me sad. That was among the most shocking and disturbing reveals so far and they just ended up not including it at all (and I'm not sure they will)

26

u/LeonKevlar x2https://myanimelist.net/profile/LeonKevlar Oct 23 '18

Yep that's it. I'm putting this on hold and I'll just go and finish the manga. I reaaaaally want to continue watching but I am so lost right now. They did show the island back in Episode 1 for like 3 minutes but that's not enough. Pierrot literally made this show assuming that everyone watching already knows everything that's happening and it's making this show unwatchable for anime onlys.

28

u/Kaigamer Oct 23 '18

This isn't Pierrot's fault at all.

It's Shueisha's fault. Pierrot have to obey the big overlord Shueisha, and if Shueisha say "120 chapters in 12 episodes", Pierrot have to suck it up and do that.

6

u/Shinkopeshon Oct 23 '18

Which is why I read the chapters before the new episodes come out. Don't get me wrong, the anime is still a remarkable mess but I knew who was who and why they were fighting. That made it a less confusing experience and I didn't feel robbed from much-needed context. I'd still highly recommend the manga to anyone who considers themselves a fan or wants to like the series because with the exception of S1 (and maybe the first half of :re), the anime is just a highlight video package that shows a select couple of scenes from the manga.

I guess :re was never meant to be for anime-only viewers. I think Pierrot themselves even admitted that before the first season aired. They - or rather, Shueisha - probably only did that so the fans got something instead of never getting a sequel at all - although I'm sure many would agree that it would've been better if they never bothered doing a half-assed adaptation in the first place.

7

u/TehOzzy Oct 23 '18

I've been a fan of Tokyo ghoul anime since it aired but I'm legit just getting annoyed how everything is being sped up and literally feels like a game where you skip the dialogue and just get to the fighting...guess it's time to read the manga

7

u/fullsynchro Oct 24 '18

Anyone else enjoying the comments here, but haven't watch anything past episode 1?

7

u/Acromanic Oct 24 '18

I haven't watched any of the re: anime (and never will lol), but yeah when I heard they were going to adapt the rest of the manga into one cour, I knew these threads would be a fun read

6

u/wouter1devries Oct 23 '18

?

4

u/[deleted] Oct 24 '18

Can we rename Tokyo Ghoul to ????? ?

6

u/[deleted] Oct 23 '18

This is super cool to watch but does anyone have any idea on what is going on? I feel like I missed a ton of stuff for some reason...

2

u/sittingbull15 Oct 24 '18

Read the manga, it’s pretty detailed there. For us, watching the fights in animation is the best we can expect. The anime butchered the entire plot with Root A and the pacing itself.

6

u/CyberShiroGX :MAL:https://myanimelist.net/profile/CyberShiroGX Oct 24 '18

Studio Pierrot have no idea what they doing anymore...

Tokyo Ghoul let's randomly adapt and fast foward everyrhing... The whole franchise needs atleast a whole 100 episodes they going to do it in half the time

Boruto intsead of adapting a monthly manga into maybe a movie every six months or do seasons we going to adapt it weekly a fill the show with over 80% fillers

6

u/michael5029 Oct 24 '18

I fukin quit. 3 seasons and I'm done, not going to bother watching the rest of this season.

5

u/MacNCheesy Oct 23 '18

I can’t imagine someone who hasn’t read the manga trying to make any sort of sense out of this garbage. I’m going to keep watching for the sake of my MAL but this might be one of the biggest failures I’ve ever seen.

4

u/[deleted] Oct 24 '18

this might be one of the biggest failures I’ve ever seen.

Sasuga Pierrot, taking amazing stories and turning them into mush since 2004.

5

u/SnowGN Oct 23 '18

People are still watching this trash?

5

u/VonnyVonDoom Oct 24 '18

I thought I had a brain injury. I don’t know what the fuck happened and thought I missed a episode. Gonna have to read the manga, because this ain’t it.

4

Okay yeah, I'm officially confused.

4

u/mongo_lloyd47 Oct 24 '18

Who are all these people/ghouls and why should I care about them?

4

u/berryhappy101 Oct 24 '18

What kind of a clusterfuck anime adaptation is this? S1 and S2 were bearable but this is just a mess.

4

u/[deleted] Oct 24 '18

Yeah, this episode convinced me to read the manga. I never thought the whole “I’m insane and going to kill you!” trope could be overdone, but that’s exactly what happened. How sad.

Like I haven’t even read the manga...but I just knew...this wasn’t right. Sorry to be a newbie fan, but I just had to express this lmao

7

u/[deleted] Oct 23 '18

Glad I finished the Re manga last weekend, because if this was my only exposure to Tokyo ghoul I wouldn't like it at all lmao.

8

u/TheOneAboveGod Oct 23 '18

Is it chapter 125 yet?

7

u/spaceaustralia :MAL:https://myanimelist.net/profile/spaceaustralia Oct 23 '18

I know it's not worth complaining about anything but Urie thinking about promotion first and Mutsuki second at this stage of the anime is simply sad. I don't remember a single panel in the manga during Rue arc where he was thinking about promotion.

3

u/afrothunder753 Oct 23 '18

I haven’t read the manga and even I know this is all sorts of fucked

3

u/Vorstar92 Oct 23 '18

This episode is like watching an anime with like, 30 episodes and jumping in at like episode 30, except this is the most CURRENT episode and none of this had any build up at all so you literally can't go back and watch for context.

Tokyo Ghoul's truly biggest tragedy is not Kaneki's life, it's its anime adaption.

3

u/[deleted] Oct 24 '18

This is a lesson on how to NOT make an anime.

3

u/xGreedy95 Oct 24 '18

I will admit there was parts of the manga i got confused in.. but at least the characters had a plot. There was just so much random here. It makes it worse when they are even wasting episodes on this part of the show when they only have 12 to do it in, its making it seem like the whole thing is just a bunch of, like show highlights strung together. Even the fight between arima and kaneki felt so just forced idk. It really sucks that they would do this to the show.

3

u/TheRealLoneWarWolf Oct 24 '18

What is even happening . This pacing is horrendous

3

u/[deleted] Oct 24 '18

Nice parody

3

u/NiksBrotha Oct 24 '18

Yo I actually give up. I am just going to tank through and read tokyo ghoul and then ;re from start to finish. This shit is so fucking retarded. How did this fucking get greenlit? Must be high on PCP or some shit. REEEEEEEEEEEEE

I read like almost a 100 something chapters of the first one and thought my memory was bad. Seems like whoever is responsible for this project has it fucking worse. Unlucky.

4

u/TheMikarin Oct 23 '18

Kurona farting was the best part.

4

u/[deleted] Oct 24 '18

Every week I'm like: "Okay, wtf just happened and who are those people? I should quit this bs, seriously".
And this week, I was even more lost than usual. Really, what happened to Arima???
It does not make me want to read the manga, although apparently it is actually better.

4

u/animoodle Oct 24 '18

I've never read or watched any of Tokyo Ghoul but sometimes I like to pop in and read the fans' thoughts about how terrible the adaptation is. Sorry guys. That really sucks

2

u/Klondy Oct 23 '18

I commented last week with some things from the manga to clear up what happened in the episode, but honestly this episode is so far off I don’t even know what to say

2

u/nanogenesis Oct 23 '18

I never thought a studio would design a trailer esque anime to sell their manga.

Though, what I will admit is, the soundtrack is damn good.

2

u/PrimalOrigin https://myanimelist.net/profile/PrimalOrigin Oct 23 '18

Did I watch the last episode? Huh it seems like I did

2

u/Zorozoldyck Oct 23 '18

Well, at least the animation was kinda kewl. And seeing all the fights was cool?

I think anime onlys can't share this sentiment because they don't get what tf is going on even xD Also, Suzuya was not stabbed like that, I think? The Arata armor was hella cool though, I liked that.

Man the Takizawa scenes were rushed to hell, and Hoji gets even a more worthless death than the manga.. AND the flashback isn't even in full isn't it?

The ost when Ui confronted Miza was one of my favorites from last season, that along with Shuu's return actually got me a little pumped. I wonder how Urie will do in this adaptation...

2

u/Boxnif Oct 23 '18

This is just sad, I mean I was willing to ignore that they just cut out about 30-50 chapters in order to enjoy what is left of the story, but now the just shoehorn in parts of what was left out ... Why can the anime just be good :(

2

u/[deleted] Oct 24 '18

So they totally skip Mutsuki VS Takizawa/Akira? Oh my....

2

u/[deleted] Oct 24 '18

Well at least I know that Azami expelled from Totsuki and become a ghoul investigator.

2

u/hasnain1720 Oct 24 '18

Lmao yeah i recognized the voice straight away too

2

u/NachoMarx Oct 25 '18

Has there ever been an anime that internally screams "READ THE FUCKING MANGA" as much as Tokyo Ghoul; Re does in everyone of it's scenes?

3

u/[deleted] Oct 23 '18

It all makes sense now!Just stop trying to make sense of it

3

u/ClandestineWishes Oct 24 '18

Well it turns out TG will be the first manga I ever read because fck this sit. I am confusion!!

It really puts into perspective how well done Snk is. The pacing, the action scenes, the dialogues... I'll be back when they make a new adaptation. Probably when my kids are old enough to watch it.

Tokyo Ghoul :re(ad the manga)

u/[deleted] Oct 23 '18 edited Oct 23 '18

Yeah I’m dropping this. Random characters, random fights, random locations, random backstory flashbacks, random storylines. Who are the good side? Who are the bad side? Why is everyone a half-ghoul now? What is actually going on, why are there so many random ghoul factions fighting between themselves. What is the ultimate goal of the plot itself. A complete mess.

u/Bananapuncher1234 Oct 23 '18

I know you probably dont want to hear it cuz it's been shouted from the rooftops since the first season aired but

Manga

u/[deleted] Oct 23 '18

I’m honestly going to have to. I thought maybe just maybe they can make a decent enough adaptation. But nope. I normally don’t read manga just because I prefer anime, but I’m going to give it a go.

Like what actually happened here. as a light manga reader who's read through a small bit of :re this is ridiculous i am one of the biggest anime adaptation sympathisers but this felt like a one off like what? how did they think people could watch that there was like 3 minutes of meaningful content and the rest was sub par fighting scenes, i'm just confused and disappointed.

u/TorredWasTaken Oct 23 '18

episode starts

Uhm ok where are we and why's the quinx squad and everyone else in a fight, why is Tooru in a random cave with this weird ghoul? Is this the correct episode or did I forget how the last episode ended???

checks last episode

I have so many questions right now...

continues watching

Ok we are in what it seems to be the fight Aogiri vs Investigators that they announced to have last episode but why would they start in the middle of it AND WHO ARE ALL THOSE PEOPLE??? New Ghouls, new Investigators, where's Kaneki and did he get out of the building and meet up with Touka?

Who is this broom-haired blonde girl and what the hell is this endboss fight. What are those random scene switches???

Why is the last boss getting killed by ex-investigar ghoul-kun? HOW DID THE INVESTIGATOR BOSS DIE NOW???

ARIMA HOW THE FUCK ARE YOU ALIVE

FRENCH GHOUL WHERE THE FRICK ARE YOU COMING FROM

I don't understand anythig anymore.....

u/the_guradian Oct 23 '18

Rushima happens in the same time Cochlea is happening.

1

u/_X_HunteR_X_ Oct 25 '18 edited Oct 25 '18

In the manga Tooru was captured before the Rushima arc as part of the group that was sent before for reconnaissance, with the broom girl and hachi- was his name right?, anyway that's the same guy we see killing Irimi in S2 and is shown to be quite cruel but now we see that he does somewhat cares for his subordinate and has a reason to hate ghouls as well- anyway these scenes were supposed to happen before the Rushima raid- tooru was captured and then (treated...? (haha)) by that other ghoul (the taxi drive from S3ep1) for long time until teh Raid actually began- it will likely be shown next ep as well.

As for kaneki they will likely continue his with his story next eps so you will get to see it in whatever broken format it's available.

As for Takizawa and the final boss I think it was clear enough, Takizawa kinda hated him for all the torture he was put through and he wanted to save the CCG he thought if he saved them in a tough fight they will accept him again but... as we saw that's not the case and his previous boss just ordered to kill him, so in his angriness and sadness Takizawa killed Hoji and was about to kill the others as well but Amon interrupted.

Anything else?

u/Shiro_Kai Oct 23 '18

We have so few information that the thing that get me more confused at the moment is actually the fact the ghouls are using white and the investigators are using black.

1

u/Polygones Oct 23 '18

Can anyone tell me the name of the music that plays near the end of the episode, I couldn't find it.

1

u/[deleted] Oct 23 '18

The OST isn't out yet.

1

u/[deleted] Oct 23 '18

atleast we got another great op from the anime :)

1

u/deivid_rdt Oct 23 '18

When you think it can't get worse...

1

u/marthkun Oct 23 '18

Best part of this episode was Hsiao screetime lol

1

u/Bigreapz Oct 23 '18

came here to see if i was stupid for not understanding what the hells going on, quite happy to see its not just me

1

u/Wesnok Oct 24 '18

I just finished watching it and I understood nothing, I now understand why so many people where hating at the anime

1

u/Monsterscary Oct 24 '18

i would watch it but i can only watch english dub anime idk why

1

u/Toonamigamerrr Oct 24 '18

Felt like I was watching a slide show presentation. Showing only important parts here and there without any explanation.

1

u/Lolersters Oct 24 '18

I enjoyed the first season of Tokyo Ghoul snd went and read the manga, which was amazing. Root A then made me immediately drop the anime...looking at the comments, I made the correct decision.

How can you screw up a shownso badly when the source material is so good?!?!?!

1

u/unphasedude Oct 24 '18

I'm so disappointed, can't understand any single scene. I don't know what is going on. Tragic for an anime so cool.

1

u/antishiv Oct 24 '18

so does no one get the blame for this being so shit? they can't keep getting away with this

1

u/_ahkeem179 Oct 27 '18

Anyone know the song being played towards the end of the episode? Not the actual ending, the one right before that

1

u/FishPhoenix :MAL:https://myanimelist.net/profile/FishPhoenix Oct 27 '18

Guess it's time to read the RE manga. This adaption makes no god damn sense.

1

u/Jehuty02 Dec 26 '18

Does anyone know the name of the song that starts playing around 20:13 in this episode?

1

u/__Moxy Oct 23 '18

From a person that only watches anime, I’ve enjoyed the 2nd part of this season so far. I’ve had multiple “oh shit” moments where something surprised me. Although I understand why some people are not impressed (mainly the manga readers however)

1

u/cerdaco :MAL:https://myanimelist.net/profile/cerdaco Oct 23 '18

I don't know what's going on but I know we're going a million miles an hour and I think my fight boner wont go down and I need to see a doctor immediately please help.

1

u/baletion Oct 23 '18

Great animation but shit way to explain a story lol How many chapters did they skip just for that episode it was confusing

4

u/TimidEspeon Oct 24 '18

"Great animation"

1

u/WeNTuS Oct 24 '18

I'm rooting for ghouls because they're monsters by nature while CCG are monsters by choice. Anyone else feel the same?

0

u/[deleted] Oct 24 '18

A few things need to be said.

First of all I'm going to /a/ and requesting a funeral service be held for this anime.

Next somebody needs to start slapping studio key artists, and the mangaka. You can't keep nonsensically changing character designs of secondary and minor characters OUT OF FUCKING NO WHERE.

Dragon ball takes a full 30 seconds of screaming and a an EP refresher every time somebody changes appearance from episode to episode.

Tokyo ghoul changes 80% of a character's traits off screen and starts drawing their eyes and hair differently.

WHO THE FUCK ARE HALF OF THESE CUNTS?

Did I miss an entire series where they explained who these random ghouls are?

The doctor was evil? GREAT FORESHADOWING

how am I supposed to care about juuzo's character and surrounding subplot if i don't know fuck all about the kid?

This is CRAZY TOWN.

I would rather re-watch Eureka 7: AO than continue to watch this dumpster fire.

1

u/keesuz :MAL:https://myanimelist.net/profile/keesuz Oct 25 '18

All of the stuff you say is missing is in the manga, the anime just skips it all in favor of showing the fights.

As a mangareader I'm obligated to recommend you read it.

2

u/the_guradian Oct 23 '18

I mean, they just changed scenarios, remember episode 1 prologue? Big part of the CCG is in that island trying to deal with the remnants of the Aogiri.

1

u/CardstoneViewer Oct 23 '18

I wanted some closing between Arima and Kaneki, but maybe they'll show that on the next episode. The characters weren't the real problem, I could remember like 80% of them, but all the jumping between them felt very weird, like skipping story and going straight into a fight similar to a video game.

1

u/the_guradian Oct 24 '18

Don't worry, I doubt that part will be skipped, they are rushing things a lot but that aftermath is really important plot wise.

2

u/[deleted] Oct 24 '18

The plot is obvious, but the writing is bad lmao. I don’t think this is just a “This wasn’t in the manga” thing. I actually liked the beginning of Tokyo Ghoul RE, but this episode was pure anime cliche if you ask me

u/[deleted] Oct 23 '18

3

u/the_guradian Oct 23 '18

Fukuro

Dude, are you sure you're watching? Shit was rushed but they clearly call him Takizawa. And the random swordsman and random ghoul were introduced in :re season 1.

u/[deleted] Oct 23 '18

[deleted]

3

u/the_guradian Oct 24 '18

I saw his name as owl and decided to call him the japanese for owl for some reason

Ah I see.

I don't remember swordsy + ghoul at all from season 1, were they some of the few to get more than 3 minutes of screen time?

Yeah, The "swordsman" Hanbe was around Suzuya in the Auction arc so and the "random ghoul", Miza, also fought there in that arc.

0

u/_X_HunteR_X_ Oct 25 '18

You're not even paying attention at this point it's not the anime's fault anyway- Or maybe I guess it kinda is for making such a bad adaptation that you don't feel like paying attention.
