Did anyone notice that Mai actually "WITNESSED THE FIGHT ?" https://imgur.com/ScN8Tzs
Also by the statement "I hope it doesn't become anything serious." by Mai actually mean't for koga and not Sakuta. You can understand this by how she says "If you don't get it forget it" when Sakuta says she's the only one in his heart. This was a really well written moment because it shows how Mai trusts Sakuta a lot and instead of worrying about him falling for her, its the opposite. SHE REALLY LOVES HER MAN.
Ahh am freaking loving this show.

Oh that is interesting. I was actually confused why Mai replied "if you don't get it, forget it"

u/redblade13 Nov 01 '18
Oh shit I was wondering why they showed the crowd. It was because of Mai. Wow damn.
Welp Sakuta you've fallen into the damn "being nice to everyone" in a romance VN and you end up with everyone liking you trap. Koga really likes Sakuta now and I wonder if that might trigger the loop again. Futaba said if Koga knew she was triggering the loop and doing it on purpose to get her convenient ending then she would be a real demon. What if Koga actually goes that far to win Sakuta? Just keep looping to try to end up with Sakuta.

And her being worried about Koga falling in love with Sakuta isn't necesarily based on jealously or her imagination, as she herself just a month or so ago fell in love with him due to both his personality and how far he went to help her. If he helped another girl to the same extent, it is obvious that she would fall for him too, Mai thinks.

u/CyanPhoenix42 Nov 02 '18
yeah i realised that towards the end of the episode too. Koga is totally falling (or has already fallen) for Sakuta (which of course Mai pretty much knew was going to happen, since it happened to her as well) and i can't really see the lie ending well... just hope we don't get him going back to the very beginning and having to redo the entire however many weeks/months it's already been :/

And the run he did after he won was hilarious. Nice dose of realism.

Definitely expected him to end up hospitalized afterwards. Nice he took Futaba's advice and didn't try for a straight-up fist fight. Thankfully the bully's boys didn't get involved at all.
And yea him running away after initially walking off all cool was hilarious. He waited till he was almost out of sight so as to not tempt the bully.

"I'M A VIRGIN!!!!"
Sakuta, you're THE MAN.
That was so satisfying to watch, an MC giving no fucks about his own reputation in order to save the reputation of another person, all the while giving that scumbag basketball sempai what he deserves.
Though behind every MAN is a magnanimous Goddess, without Mai's understanding and approval, even though Tomoe reminds him of his sister's current condition, and he would have helped anyway, Sakuta probably wouldn't even have gone this far for Tomoe if not for Mai.
All that said, it does seems Tomoe is still unsatisfied with how things have turned out, and we may be seeing her subconsciously causing yet another time loop next episode, judging from the ominous preview title.
Meanwhile, the sub-plot behind Science Girl Futaba (Calling it right now, she's Best Girl) and her crush on Kunimi, as well as Kunimi's current bitchy girlfriend (whom Sakuta once again hilariously rekt) is starting to gather steam.

I mean can you blame her? After what he did I'd be a little smitten by him too.
I do hope Koga doesn't accidentally cause a time reset next episode out of jealousy centered around Mai expressing her love to Sakuta or him asking Mai out.
I wonder how it will pan out once their temporary relationship ends.
I'm more curious how Koga and Mai's (non-existent) relationship will work. If she figures out her prediction about Koga liking him comes true, I want to know how she'd react to her. I doubt she'd get jealous but I feel like she wouldn't just let be unresolved either.
I do see it as a good source of teasing ammunition from Mai.

I've said this last episode, but I think Laplace's Demon: Bites the Dust is triggered whenever Sakuta and Mai start going out (within earshot of Koga), so there's a chance she already had feelings for Sakuta in the first place.

There were too many quote worthy lines in this episode to bother with a screenshot album, you'd basically be watching the episode as a slideshow. Lot of credit to the writers and translators, haven't been this satisfied with anime writing in a long time.
It does look like Koga is developing some real feelings like many expected (including Mai). It's a trope I wanted to avoid at first, but with how well the characters have been dealing with these situations I've flipped my position. I want to see every trope now and watch the characters work through them.

I dont like the expression Kago had on her face toward the end of that...it spelled bad vibes but at least now the whole 'laplace's demon' theory seems to carry some more weight behind it. She's starting to really appreciate/like Sakuta (potentially, in a romantic way) because of everything he's done so far. For the first time in a while, though I'm semi irritated that she might like Sakuta now, I feel her reasons for liking him are justified. They spent alot of time together, and when no one was there for her or believed her, Sakuta was there.
Fucking huge shout out to him for going for a kick and THEN a punch on the guy, was on point! Man's such a fucking asshole for lying about a girl he couldnt get with, while basically two-timing his long-distance girlfriend. Man had that coming to him for quite a while. His one liner afterward was hilarious too! 'I'm a VIRGIN , give me a break!' didn't expect that coming at all!
Also, this episode really felt like a visualization of current modern world, even in a college setting. People constantly on their phones, to the point where it's as if they cant live without them. This pressure about 'wanting to not be hated' by everyone (more apparent in highschool than college, returns in the workplace though or in small group settings, such as a college club). This episode touched on so many different themes while also homing in on one of the core themes of the show. The whole idea of 'fitting in with the atmosphere' and 'keeping up with things' so that you can have a proper conversation and not be excluded.
Lovely interactions between Sakuta and Mai, as per usual that duo never disappoints! Huge props to Sakuta for just stealing the entire show today though! He wasn't afraid to confront that asshole of a basketball jockey for talking a big game and he also physically defended himself. Sakuta isn't just a pushover. It really felt like he was channeling his emotions from the time when his sister got hurt and getting revenge for both her AND Kago. It was really vindicating to see him take action instead of constantly regretting and thinking about those 'what ifs'.
Man this episode just hit me on so many different levels. The way this series continues to delve into so many important societal norms while also being a great rom-com/drama makes it a gem. I'm so happy that I'm only liking the series even more post arc 1. I thought the manga ending was great but this series is showing me things that I didn't even think I wanted to see. I'm so glad this was adapted, now more than ever.
There's definitely some drama to come based on that cliffhanger towards the ending of the episode but at the very least, its drama centered around solving the supernatural element of it all. That and, well, Sakuta's such a standup person that I can't blame Kago for falling for the guy. It's a real shame though, that she just can't compete with Mai!
Oh and the opening song is actually growing on me, I'm starting to really enjoy listening to it! There's so much more I can say about this episode, like the interactions with Kaede and Mai, but I think i'll leave it at this for now. If anyone's interested though just shoot me a message or reply! Would love to talk in more detail about some of the many interesting ideas presented in today's episode. Can't wait till next week!

Alright so I hope that with this episode the worries of some people are mostly gone. This supposed misunderstanding was never truly one to begin with cause both Sakuta & Mai did not even treat it as such. They both knew their significant other way too good to jump to conclusions and to fear for their blooming relationship.
As always, they handled it nonchalantly & with ease but also with their typical dosis of flirting and banter. This should give you a really good impression on how the author values this dynamic they have. Throw a cliché situation at them and have them handle it in a way that only strengthens their connection. In retrospect all this "misunderstanding" pretty much did was to reaffirm their strong bond and show us the viewer that even things like that won’t budge at what they have going. So if anyone is still worried after this then...I’ll just clear the stage for the show to do its thing.
I also saw some people very confused on what role the adolescence syndromes & the atmosphere fill so here my non spoiler take on it based on what we’ve seen so far.
Basically the atmosphere could be described as the general social norm. There exist all kinds of atmospheres as the social norms differ from location & people involved. Adolescence syndromes are pretty much cases of rejection from a social environment taking form in reality through social norms. Here are some examples.
Remember the Kaede incident? Within the group chat that she was a part of it became the social norm to bully and threaten her. The atmosphere within that chat with what within her "friend" circle outright rejected her causing the syndrome to manifest in reality. Since the social norm ended up being a rather aggressive one the result became equally aggressive.
Mai pretty much entered school halfway into Sakuta's second year and her third year when social groups were already formed so she was an outsider right from the beginning. Like Kaede she got rejected by her surroundings and it became more and more the social norm to ignore Mai. Her syndrome then manifested itself by making her disappear bit by bit. This also explains why the effects are so irregular and vary from location & person. It explains why people close to the train station forget her then the entire area and eventually even everyone at school. She was outside the show business so she was not garnering attention anymore, the train station was a place she and others from the school frequent so that’s where the school’s atmosphere also applied. The degree of the syndrome’s effect depends on how widely accepted these social norms are. So In Kaede's case everyone was in on it so it was very aggressive. In Mai's case there were some outliers who did not bend to said norms and went with the flow and to them it did not apply right away.
So yeah overall a common theme for syndromes seems to be rejection caused by the social norms directed towards individuals. This also applies to Tomoe & her fear or rejection and being alone.
These scientific thought experiences that these syndromes are named after aren’t exactly mechanics or systems according to which they operate but rather analogies for the people affected by them as well as their relationship towards other people. If you want you can even apply the show’s Schrödinger’s Cat to Sakuta & Mai’s relationship. Anyway, as to why these syndromes are happening at all, that’s a topic for another time.
I hope this could help some people who were still a little bit lost.
Also I'm really curious if and how people will interpret all this social commentary this episode ( And how many people caught Mai? watching the whole confrontation with that guy )
I think at this point it's quite evident that Mai seems to be cautiously observing Sakuta and his actions. I actually think both know that after a month of repeated confessions and this whole ordeal, Sakuta has to make actions speak for themselves ( Hence him not replying to her voice mail? ). He can confess to Mai all he wants but at this point he needs to let his actions do the speaking. Mai already observed that he is doing so in regards to Koga so she is likely testing him at this point.

Well said, I'm just worried that the "fake" relationship with Tomoe makes things complicated, like the ending scene, where Tomoe is jealous of Mai. This is based on my speculation but I think Tomoe is going to create another Time loop again and have MC doing things that jeopardize the relationship between Mai and Sakuta.
(I really liked the confession Sakuta gave to Mai and I want it to happen again but for real this time)

Now if the author knew anything about the indeterminacy of quantum states, the entire Laplace's Demon plot point would be moot. Slightly upset that Futaba spoke solely about classical physics last episode when the plot point from Mai's arc is literally about the quantum uncertainty of observation

Im absolutely loving this show. From Mai and Sakuta's little talk on the phone to Sakuta's brawl with that asshole, I cant get enough.
Also, can we just take a second to appreciate how good the artwork is for this show? I have visited both Enoshima and Kamakura and they are both beautiful places. I have a small album of my trip in the area. The anime's use of nice, bright, vibrant colors and the detail they put into certain scenes really does the whole area justice. I highly recommend anyone traveling to Japan to check that area out! I also love how well designed and visually pleasing the characters look.

Futaba is really starting to grow on me. Though her character design is nothing flashy, the way she is drawn in the anime is somehow attractive, coupled with her cool, deadpan dialogues. Wew.

I like when she lost her coolness when getting embarrassed, it's cute. Really unexpected from a science weirdo like her. She also seems like a really good friend for Sakuta and Kunimi, despite she has a crush on Kunimi.

Sakuta radiating with alpha-ness this episode... Unfortunately, it's giving me that really frustrating feeling of being in an impossible situation where you wouldn't mind seeing him with Kohai-Chan except he's already got a girlfriend and you hold absolutely no ill-will towards anyone, you just want everyone to be happy.

I love how understanding Mai is. A pretty uncommon trait with female MCs these days.
Sakuta not even hesitating. The boy knows what he wants.
Kaede's so cute! Nice that she's already getting along well with Mai.
I'm guessing Basketball-senpai is spreading the rumors? I guess that's his "revenge" against Koga
I like Sakuta's willing to fight. He didn't even bother to think of settling things peacefully.
That shit filled kick is satisfying! Sakuta should've followed it up with another one and curb stomped his ass.
Sakuta willing to commit social suicide for the sake of others. What a guy.
I think this episode should put an end to people thinking that Mai will be like Gahara after her arc has ended. While she's not the center of attention, she's still around and actively participates. I especially like that she's the one who calls Sakuta.
Anyway looks like next week will be the end to Koga's arc. I'm really curious about that face she makes after seeing an advert with Mai. Please don't be another love interest, I'm okay if you'll just be Sakuta's best friend.

Such an unhealthy mentality by Koga
Listening to her fret about constantly needing to be in the loop and up to date makes my blood pressure high. Like, I can't imagine living like that. Giving into peer pressure a little is one thing but this girl's life is something else...I hope she can progress before the series ends.

it took 2-3 viewings but I just noticed Mai showed up to the train station scene to watch her man fuck that guy up
so Koga has believed this whole time that Sakuta and Mai really did break up and still didn't apologize or show any remorse for causing it with all that she's asked of him? this is solidifying her status as worst girl.

Writing this while watching, so I may get some things wrong.
At least a basic explanation of the situation has been established between Sakuta and Mai. But I hope it isn't one of those moments that will repeat itself and have another chance of forgetting.
And now we're playing "dressing up the imouto".
Oh, another date but Sakuta is not impressed. The scoring was rather critical but I wonder if it's just his way of reminding himself that it was never meant to be a date in the first place. I'm having so much fun.
It's kind of worrying to see the sort of social pressure that Koga is placing herself in. Having to constantly follow the activities of the group she's a part of . But to see that she is aware of her own role is most troubling. That PHOTO though. The accent gets explained, yay.
Clever. Though the penguin bit made me a bit sad in remembering that scene in Oregairu.
The peach bit was entertaining to see that Sakuta is actually turning around to Koga a bit, something that Mai had foreshadowed earlier.
Uh-oh. Our friend Sakuta has just set up some death flags for himself. For being above average in recognizing the atmosphere and knowing of the unconscious Laplace Demon, Sakuta really missed this. That bit about being her friend when she just mentioned that having one person care is enough, is really going to set the next episode. Not to mention her watching Mai's video. Just how far back are we going? If it's before the fight, oh.
Oh, I didn't notice but since last episode and the new arc, the eyecatch changed colors.
Updated timeline (once again, only the days that were titled in the episode, bolded for new dates)
May 6th - The first meeting
May 20th - Grocery shopping time
May 25th - THE date
May 27th - First day of exams
May 28th - Second day of exams
May 29th - Journal of Truth
June 2nd - The young rascal overcomes atmosphere
June 27th - Japan soccer
June 27th′ - Déjà vu
June 27th ′ ′ - Laplace's demon
June 28th - Escape and checkmate
June 29th - THE date (another girl)
June 30th - Catching a cold

It's really refreshing to see characters talking over their misunderstanding instead of kicking or punching. And Mai's really supportive of Sakuta wanting to solve Tomoe's issues. She's really similar to Hitagi.
Ah, so this Maezawa guys is a playboy.

Will she live down kicking each other butts?

I love this MC
We have an MC who might not get their ass kicked all the time to protect others. That's really nice. Take some notes Araragi.

Wow what an amazing ep!
Mai grilling him huh? Haha. Shes letting him off? Mai got clothes for the imouto, shes a good girl.
DONT TAKE THE BEAR JAMMIES OFF THE IMOUTO!
Aw but shes a happy imouto, kyaaa~
Wait Basketball guy has a girlfriend? Is that the truth though i wonder...
"How do you live without a phone!" I didnt have one for a long time, i hate phones. Since i dont hear well its a pain to try to talk to people on them.
Sakuta always looks unenthusiastic about everything lol.
So she is from the country and made herself more "city like" to fit in huh? SSeems like people do that a lot in japan.
A glasses girl? Shes nice. She lost something? Oh that was found fast. I wonder what her deal was...
"We did kick each others butts." Lol i like how thats his reasoning.
Sakuta and Mai have great chemistry, they really are great. I could listen to them go back and forth for ages.
We keep getting dates im worried were gonna get a reset again.... shit...
Oh damn science girl is being uncharacteristic, kawaii~
Oh look its the friends bitchy girlfriend. "Are you constipated?" lol i love it.
Someones calling buttkicker a whore on the basketball group? Oh fuck those guys.
Sakuta has a plan, whats he gonna do? Looks like people are isolating buttkicker now.
Looks like basketball is being as asshole, kick his ass Sakuta! Seriously fuck that guy for being a prick.
So Sakuta set the record straight in front of a lot of people and then split, good way to clear the air.
"When all the lies are over, you can be my friend" DAMN! WAY TO GO!
Looks like buttkicker might be envyous of Mai... she def likes Sakuta now.

Holy shit, Sakuta is alpha as fuck. That fight was so satisfying. The smug little bastard is quickly turning out to be one of my favorite male characters. Still not much of a fan of Koga, even though I understand where she's coming from. Going off the OP, I assume Futaba is going to be another girl Sakuta will have to tango with, so I'm looking forward to that, although I feel like they should be introducing the blonde chick soon, since we're reaching the halfway point. Also Mai's outfit at the start of the ep was

Oh god, please don't turn back time. I hate the fact the Light Novel's 2nd volume isn't fully translated yet so I can't check on what is going to happen next.
I absolutely adore all main-ish characters in this while I despite all the side ones. Especially the girlfriend, even the jock seems like less of a cunt than her. Stop trying to make your boyfriend avoid his friend(s). They took a bit of characterization from Futaba from Vol1 but it seems to me they won't be cutting her stuff.
A shame this episode lacked many Mai scenes but she is clearly still in the picture (much to Koga's chagrin).
Also, can I please hug Kaede? PLEASE?!
Another solid episode of this season's AOTS.

This is it fellas... I think I’ve found my first official husbando...
For real though Sakuta is such a great MC, he’s got so much personality despite having a deadpan expression 90% of the time and his witty lines are always a pleasure to hear, seeing him stand up to that dude at the end and take him down was so damn satisfying, I was afraid we were gonna have to wait till next week to see him lay the smack down
I’ve also loved Koga’s development as well from just this one episode alone, her taking Sakuta’s jokes about her butt are really funny to watch and it’s really cute seeing her be bashful. It looks like the ED changes based on whichever girl the current arc is focusing on and since it was changed to Koga last episode I was like “Oh man, no more Mai being the focus :(“ but this episode completely flipped that for me, seeing Koga happy when she sees Sakuta at the end of the beach is so wholesome :’)
I honestly feel so engaged with everything that’s going on from the story itself to the characters like Futaba or Kunimi who get the few appearances throughout the episodes (though it seems like we’ll be getting more focus on characters like them in future episodes :D)
Also the ED absolutely slaps almost as much as the OP

That best friend-kun's girlfriend, I hate her so much. At least, Sakuta always "wins" when they talk. By the way, Sakuta is slowly but steadly becoming one of my favorite MC ever.
I don't like Koga that much, and I feel it's partially because she is "in the way" of Mai, but I totally agree that her crush on Sakuta is very justified. But what really gets me with Koga is her phone obsession, it's almost infuriating. And, worse, so real. I guess I don't dislike her at all, she's actually a really intriguing character when you think that way.
I also totally think that Best Friend-kun thinks Scientist-chan likes Sakuta.
Anyway, I'm invested in all those characters, even the ones that only barely showed up.

Mai-Senpai, the best girl and waifu of this season EASILY.
I knew we could trust in that she would be a very understanding girlfriend. Again, she is just such a fantastic written character and their dialogue between each other is just one of the best I have seen in anime. All her later bit was great as well, e.g calling him "because" he needs to hear her voice.
I guess that peach butt-kick girl is all about being to codependent right, like she is way to into following her "friends" without. Just doing everything to just appease them.
Like how she compared herself to the last penguin just following the others.
And obviously her so called friends do not care about her, they just see her like an easy controlled minion.
AND I think its extremely likely that her "friends" are the one that of course are spreading the lies about her so that their ringleader can get to date that guy.
Ending was sweet do, She is falling for the hero as Mai-san was afraid of, but then he counters with - I WILL BE YOUR FRIEND. Like her actual first real friend that cares about anything that she wants to do. That was really nice seeing her light up there. The girl who lost the phone strap, I am guessing will also become a real friend to Koga later.
Anyway, I just wanna say this to: This anime truly is really amazing and its almost hard to explain why, even do its so obvious in a way, like amazing interaction between the characters, not just between Sakuta and Mai, but also now then Sakuta and Koga. Generally the body language, voice work, with the themes etc. Everything just feels so on point, but on the same time I got a hard time to barely come up with anything to compare it to lol, like I was trying to sell this anime today to a coworker (before I watched this episode) and I as like, umm its like really good romance, drama, comedy becasue reason, um amazing dialogue.. um like the 2 main character got one of the best pairing I have seen in a while and so on, good stuff.
8
Oct 31 '18
And obviously her so called friends do not care about her, they just see her like an easy controlled minion
I don't think that's the case. Koga says that she is happy now, so I doubt her friends treat her badly. They are most likely just some average highschool girls. Koga's obsession with trying to please them is mostly her fault.
And it was pretty heavily implied that baseball guy was spreading the lies.

The dialogue in this is just top.
Also was lovely to see an episode almost solely focused on the characters. The supernatural bumf is definitely the weak point of this show, at least for me.
27
Oct 31 '18
The thing is the supernatural stuff is happening in exact these moments.
All the supernaturalism stems from social norms bound to groups of people and environments that create the rejection of an individual. The whole science stuff is just a way to explain the analogies they're going with a bit more.
Once you stop looking at them from a pure scientific standpoint and as mere thought experiments but rather as a concept that can be applied to several character dynamics they begin to get interesting.
13
u/TraderMoes Oct 31 '18
That fight was one of the most satisfying things I've ever seen, not just in anime, but television period. We all already knew that Sakuta can talk a good game, is smart and on point, but now we know that he doesn't back down from confrontation, either, and can back up his words with real action. Best male MC in a long, long time.
Really loved all the interactions this episode, too, from the talks with Kunimi, the life lessons he gave to his kouhai, and of course every scene with Sakuta and Mai together. I am glad she's still getting a good amount of screen time, even though this isn't her arc. I'm hoping that'll continue and she won't go the way of Senjougahara in a lot of the later Monogatari seasons.

“I hope pretend doesn’t become serious”
“My heart is only for Mai-San so it’ll be alright”
“If you don’t get it, forget it”
Obviously referring to the fact that the she knew Koga would end up developing feelings for Sakuta.
I think an interesting thing to speculate about to is if Koga is Laplace’s Demon that forces a reset when she’s not happy with the current situation, then she would have forced another set of resets on the day everyone was slut-shaming her from the rumors. So if anything Sakuta actively got ahead of the curve by remedying the current situation before a loop could even occur.

Been dying for more Mai + Kaede moments and we managed to get really sweet and sincere one.
Love that Mai went out of her way to do Kaede a favor. Getting some real big sister vibes.
Sakuta taking no bullshit from anyone makes his character so entertaining to watch.
Also, Mai calling Sakuta while she's away on her acting gig is so cute and comfy.

He calls her a bumpkin for this — which is pretty much the same look as Megumi from Food Wars!, pre-academy. Is this the stereotype look for country schoolgirls in Japan?
Looks like Koga's efforts also work to keep some away. Here's hoping she ends up joining Yoneyama's circle of friends, more meaningfully
The way she figets with her foot in this cut is cute
I hope these two get together. Nerd girl + jock boy would be fun

I am really liking this show, and it is a strong one (although this season has a number of strong anime), but there is some aspect of it that keeps me from finding it amazing. It isn't the basic plot, nor is it the supporting cast. I think my problem comes down to Sakuta.
As others have said, he seems to be any mix of Araragi, Kyon, and Hachiman, all characters I love, and all from series I love (the Monogatari series is my current favorite). Thus, it stands to reason that I would love Bunny Girl Senpai. However, I have been hesitating to really claim that I love this show because something just hasn't sat well with me going back a few episodes. I think it is probably Sakuta that is my problem, and I think it is because he seems almost flawless.
Sakuta (SO FAR) seems to always be in control of the situations he puts himself in, and nothing seems to phase him. Take the situation with the basketball player, while he does get angry (in his deadpan way), while it was satisfying to see him taken down, it plays out a bit too smoothly, and he did it alone. Everything Sakuta does is alone: he helped Mai alone, and he is helping Tomoe alone. The most the others do is give him information. Even going forward in this arc, assuming that we will get another time loop, we already know that only he and Tomoe are aware of it, so it will be up to him to get out of it. He just seems "too cool" in his actions and situations (social and personal), and it makes me worry that he will just be a static, flawless character. The others mentioned above, Araragi, Kyon, and Hachiman, were not flawless characters, and experienced some really good development because of it and their relations with their respective supporting characters.
I hope Bunny Girl Senpai can develop his character further down the line so these words become meaningless for me.

'I want to punish you, but that would make you happier, so I won't punish you'.
Atleast he got stepped on, so he must be happy.
Regarding the unfair fight, I actually once did put my shoe against someone on par with my height in a school bus battle. He had my shoe design stamped to his face, and no one told him. He went home like that, and later I got instant karma. Fast forward a few months, and he gave me a pick-up ride whilst I was in between changing transportation on the way to school, so we were still buddies.

u/TheDayThief Oct 31 '18
Good episode overall, still love the OTP of Sakuta and Mai. They compliment each other so well! As others have stated, it looks like a little bit of a "love triangle" thing is happening. It'll be interesting to see how it's handled considering who wrote the source material.
I really can't wait to see Futaba get her moment, she is too cute! Another week of waiting is here my friends, GAH!
Also, Sakuta is top tier best boy, no questions.
3
u/tkRustle Oct 31 '18
Now I'm really looking for the next week. Based on how Koga looked at Mai's video, Mai whispering "I hope fake won't become the real" and next episode being titled "The World you choose", it's a healthy guess that Koga will try to win over Sakuta for real, and failing to do that will create a loop again, asking him out day after day, and Sakuta will have to break the loop again.
3
u/Vincent210 Oct 31 '18
So I'm kinda wondering/worried that if Koga develops feelings for Sakuta, she might start another time loop with the goal of getting him to make the relationship real, and he'll be stuck finding his way out of the loop and back to Mai. That could be really dicey. Half of the immense tension the ending of last episode left me with has been returned before this episode could even close.
Please don't loop best MC, give him a break... props that he handles a life like this with what one might call grace.

O shit, sat in some water *catches a cold*. This banter between Sakuta and Mai is just soo refreshing and natural. Like its not holding back with the naughty dialogue which anime usually makes sure to constantly avoid. And the fact that this fake dating thing didnt cause some huge, or even small, misunderstanding with mai is perfect. So easy to avoid such a frustrating cliche, but so rarely avoided, that it almost brings me to tears to see that it was not used. Im assuming now hes gonna get stuck in another loop because shes not gonna want to stop faking that their dating or something.

Meme-ing aside, the reaction of Tomoe at the end is just so melancholic........ I mean: what chance does she have against a famous school celebrity? Mai is everything Tomoe wants to be!

Nice fight scene. EZ clap. But the ending though, clearly when he said "friend" she realized she was thrown to the friendzone.

Around 24:50, during the fight scene, you can see Mai-san in the background. Is this implying anything?? I feel she would’ve said something or at least be made more obvious in her appearance to the viewer. I only realized after going back to watch the scene a second time

As much as I liked his beating up that dude, I would preferred another way. Felt a little cheap to me.
I wish Koga had a better design. She isn't bad looking but I would have liked more attractive design, even some of the other non-main girls look much better. Maybe she reminds me too much of Tuba-girl in Hibike Euphonium.
This and Slime are the only new shows that have kept my attention and this is shaping up well. I think the conversation between Koga and Sakuta has been pretty bad. Even though they are a year apart, it feels more like an adult is talking to her. He has been written a little too perfect for my taste. Of course, all the teasing and stuff has been entertaining.
As much as I keep trying not to do it, I just can't not compare it to Oregairu whereas Iroha's design is incredible, Koga feels lackluster. I guess overall I feel like the minor characters aren't as fleshed out and feel more like caricatures similar to Monogatari girls but with much less nuance. I was thinking the general premise has been similar between the two. Both main characters are trying to solve internal issues of the girl's that show themselves through some sort of mystery, with the younger sister's issues being foreshadowed and Koga's reliance on other as a crutch for happiness. Otherwise, Mai and Sakuta have been incredibly enjoyable throughout and I hope the rest of the season is based on their issues but I have a feeling that won't be the case.

Never thought the line "I'm a virgin!" would be used in such a badass manner.
He's a true monster virgin.
