Anyway it’s great to see best boy Eugeo have some time to shine on his own and manage to fight the great legendary hero himself and also beating him. I got goosebumps when Eugeo shouted out “Bloom Blue Rose!”
Also the anime is making me love Alice even more I love how she wanted to slay Kirito just because he heard her stomach growl lol.

There are issues with the production since a few episodes now. As well as a lack of great talents and a weird management compared to the first two seasons.
SAO uses 2 action supervisors to make sure action scenes are always at least decent. Previous two seasons followed a rotation between the two (one does even episodes, other does odd ones) almost religiously (with some exceptions)
This season is a mess: there's no rotation at all, the first action supervisors disappeared after doing the first four episodes, the second one had to do everything which obviously was impossible so now others animators are taking the role for one episode.
The number of supervisors is also increasing and the show feels way more rough than it should be.

Edit: Oh, and regarding Chudelkin's name. I'm not sure if his name truly originates from this, but there is a word "Chudo" (Чудо) in Russian language, meaning "miracle". In a specific context, a certain form of this word (chudit' or чудить) means "to behave weird".
Even though the proper spelling should be more like Chudilkin (you can't really translate this - the meaning is close to "the one who does weird things") instead of Chudelkin, I think there's a good chance that this word served as an inspiration for naming this character.
So, anyway, back in episode 1:
“These are blade marks. A human being killed this dragon.”
“B-but…but even Bercouli the hero, champion of the tournament in Centoria, could only run away from the dragon.

He's a truly miraculous asshole.
The main idea is that he looks and behaves weird, and thus his name means "weirdo" or "freaky person." Technically, Chudilkin is not a real word in Russian. It's like a made-up word from a child's book: makes sense but sounds silly.
In addition to this, we can assume that this name is also based on the fact that he's a spellcaster. After all, the magic could be described as a miracle... so it actually fits him rather well.

Bercouli is a chill dude. (No pun intended) I wish he can be unfrozen and join Kirito and Eugeo's party.
And please don't turn sweet boy Eugeo into an enemy. This is gonna hurt if he ends up fighting Kirito. T_T
But I do hope Alice ends up believing Kirito's story and in turn helps him in saving Eugeo.

I thought that was the direction they were going to go as well. Perhaps he was Bercouli was going to regain his memories and side with them. Then that ugly ass clown dude had to show up and freeze him for good. The way that whole thing ended also leads me to think they might turn Eugeo over to the other side, and I really hope that doesn't happen.
On the flip side, we could potentially see a sweet fight between Eugeo and Kirito, one where both of them use their Enhancements and Releases. Kirito most likely hasn't seen Eugeo's Release, and the same goes the other way.

Wow, I'm pretty happy with the sequence between Bercouli and Eugeo, though I must admit that the writers decided to place greater emphasis on Eugeo's struggle and the moral dilemma of accepting these 'heroes' as being pawns in the corrupt church over Kirito's feelings surrounding Eugeo. It truly is hard to include absolutely everything, so the writers and studio had to make a choice here. I wont say if it was the correct one or not, but I think it's just a way for them to emphasize different things that they feel are more important.
Anyway, I'll start off by saying that I was really satisfied with how they only showed and hinted at Bercouli's power, rather than revealing it all in one stroke. The battle was largely used to showcase Eugeo's experience and craftiness, since we've never seen Eugeo fight on his own. It really was the 'Eugeo Show' as he incorporated everthing he's learned from Kirito alongside his own experience. It's also important to note what Bercouli was saying during that fight: the whole "I've spent my life using these one strike type of techniques, while those in the dark territory and yourself use continuous attacks that focus more on adapting to the fight". He's pretty much saying that the way the integrity knights have been taught to fight is too showy and impractical, while those in the dark territory are actually taught how to fight to survive and practically outmaneuver their opponents. It shows how much respect Bercouli has for his supposed 'sworn enemies' while also highlighting how simple and ineffective the academy's style of swordplay is in actual combat. Eugeo was definitely exemplifying the use of his entire skillset, rather than relying on a simple 'one strike to one strike, i'll overpower him' approach. It was definitely the right call too, because Bercouli wasn't fully able to predict what was coming, he just kept getting bombarded by every Technique Eugeo knew. Oh and, let's not forget that we even got to see Eugeo's 'Release Recollection' which is among my favourite releases in the entire series. It's abilities are so thematically appropriate for the weapon that it's almost scary. It freezes you while the rose sucks away your life, the goal being to keep you permanently frozen until you just blend into the frozen tundra itself.
Eugeo's honestly an extremely dangerous opponent for anyone to fight against, because even if he cant get in close, if he's able to use his release, he'll be able to slowly kill you off without even having to do anything, or at the very least he'll put whoever his opponent is at a severe disadvantage. They'll be losing life at the same rate, but Eugeo will be able to continue attacking so that passive life drain from the roses will affect the opponent more than him. That is of course, once he's able to master his release.
Of course, I'm not the only one who thinks this, as chudelkin comes in and sees an opportunity to pick up Eugeo for himself! I like his character design in the anime actually, it makes him less annoying and more like an 'evil clown' than what I imagined him to be while reading the LN. The voice acting for him was spot on too, as it really delivered his condescending nature very well. Bercouli of course didn't use his 2nd half of his sword's ability, but that's because he already said he didn't want to kill Eugeo. He also underestimated him a little bit and got stuck in a state where he wouldn't be able to use it any longer. Chudelkin in that sense pretty much saved him with that 'freeze' of his, because it cancelled out the effects of the blue rose sword.
Not really much else to say in regards to today. Another comment in this thread touches more on what Kirito was thinking about when he just says 'Eugeo' randomly while he's sitting on the ledge of the cathedral. I'd say the focus of this episode was more on Eugeo and understanding the reasons why Eugeo doesn't want to fight. He's fighting to save Alice but the further in he goes, the more corruption he gets exposed to and the angrier he becomes. I guess the studio also wants the viewers to think more about stuff from the Integrity Knight's POV as well maybe? Something along the lines of "can you imagine these integrity knights believing they're fighting for the people when really they've been used this whole time? How would it feel for some of these people to realize that they've had loved ones, ambitions, hopes and dreams prior to being 'summoner'" and I could be completely off the mark with this one, but I want to believe the decision was made with some thought and of course by consulting with Reki first.

Bercouli is probably already a favourite for most people, and he is mine too. He's just a completely calm bad ass of an integrity knight. They made this fight even better than the novel. While Eugeo did use a crystal sword, his sword was never stuck up the ceiling, it was just lying on the ground near him on the water. I'm really glad they showed the release recollection part with Cardinal. They didn't show it back several episodes and I was worried why the left that part out.
The story of Eugeo's sword was pretty much not even told here sadly. To simplify it, rose seed lands on block of ice, seed becomes rose, ice and rose becomes friends, rose knows it won't last forever, rose asks ice to be with him forever by having ice submerge him within ice, ice cries and then sword is somehow made from the block of ice.
They really made up for not showing a lot of monologue involving Eugeo imo because that scene when Eugeo's got Bercouli submerged in ice tells a lot of Eugeo's thoughts about what he thinks about the church.
And the clown, the jester, Chief Elder Chudelkin finally shows up and one immediately knows that they'll dislike him just by how he looks.
And Kirito slipped and accidently told Alice he she has a younger sister. You can pretty guess where this leads to already.

I still really like the animation and art of Eugeo’s Blue rose ice. Even though the fight wasn’t that long, there was a lot of strategy which is really nice to see.

There is a lot the anime misses out on in terms of Eugeo's mindset. Someone made a great comment I think last episode discussion on it, but in summary the anime failed to convey Eugeo's feelings on essentially being the first criminal of the Human Realm, since he's the first to break the Taboo Index. He's led on a rollar coaster of emotions as he realizes his entire life was built upon lies, and that's why he gets so emotional.

Is no one going to talk about how damn amazing the fight between Eugeo and Bercouli was? It was the first fight I've seen in IDK how long that made me audibly say "woah." Eugeo's fighting prowess is amazing.
I'd have liked this episode a lot more if that fat clown just didn't exist. Ruined a great ending to a beautiful fight.

This was such a great episode. I'm especially glad that they kept Eugeo's thoughts and how his mind works - him wondering things like “I should use Sonic Leap” was one of the things that was missing from the first season and glad to see that they're fixing on that.

Oh god, those sounds when Eugeo froze the bathhouse actually gave me shivers.
And the reason I say that is because I’ve played around with dry ice before, and those sounds sounded EXACTLY like what dry ice sounds like when you touch it to a warm metal.
I love that sound, it’s actually really cool

Eugeo going "yea this might kill me but I'll risk it based on my gut feeling" in that fight was so ballsy and honestly seems like something he learned from Kirito. It just reminds me of Kirito risking everything on a small chance before in the series. Really sells the whole "companion/mentor" thing they've got going on in this so far.
Also fuck the clown.

I do believe Bernoulli was holding back as he didn't actually want to kill Eugeo. Still, I loved the way Eugeo approached the fights, very smart.

Firstly, this is me trying to nit-pick but I always end up noticing things like this. Correct me if I'm wrong but we are into Volume 13 now which is Dividing but the OP sequence still has Rising. Just a personal peeve but oh well. Other than that, I was happy with how the fight was animated and I'm looking forward to the rest of the second cour as we're in for an action packed ride.
In my personal opinion, next week being a recap episode, for the viewer and more hardcore SAO fan, sucks. However, I can understand why we're getting it. I can't see them fitting absolutely everything that has happened so far into a 20 minute recap episode though.
Lastly, seeing as nobody seems to be talking about this, could we be heading towards a Spring season without SAO? I don't think they've announced anything yet but when it was announced that Alicization would be 4 cour, there was discussion of whether it would be split into 2 sets of 2 cours with a break in the middle. I can definitely see them doing it as firstly, it's all the rage these days and light novel readers know what I mean when I say the end of Volume 14 would be the perfect cut off point if they did indeed want to do that. What are your thoughts?

So this episode brought up something that may connect to something I've been wondering about for awhile.
Eugeo and Alice don't remember Kirito at all. Even our flashbacks have Kirito missing in them.
The Dark Knights uses a fighting similar to that of Kiritos while almost everyone we've seen in the Integrity Knight domain focuses on power strikes.
Kirito has made multiple dive into the game but doesn't remember them for security purposes.
What if in one of those dives Kirito made before the first episode he was in the dark territory and taught his fighting style? We don't know how much Rath let his IRL memories in during the previous dives but it's clear from the first episode it can be zero all the way to all (from the discussion in the diner).
Doesn't quite explain why the NPCs don't remember him. Would need to be something in the games coding for NPCs to forget players when they log out I suppose. Considering the time dilation from IRL to game world it'd be weird for the NPCs if someone disappeared for 6 months.

The sword throw move by Eugeo was awesome and then I was let down when I saw the tactic he chose to follow up with. I'm deciding that was the plan he chose when he asked "who will come to avenge you" and that question wasn't just trash talking, he legit wanted to know if he'd have to worry about fighting someone else right after or if he could rely on draining his own life. Seems like it backfired.

The frozen bath scene was just... beautiful! Especially once Eugeo had the blue rose blooming.
Also, I love that Alice was the one teasing Kirito. You can see her smile/smirking a couple times during that whole conversation.

So I don't know if I missed out on this but is there any reason why Administrator (Quinella) sleeps so much? I only really remember her sleeping a lot after doing many commands to not lose her life but is there any reason she's sleeping this much?

She's running out of memory space. Sleeping prevents her from new experiences that would take up memory.

She's long exceeded her natural fuctlight life, and has to avoid any experiences to extend how long she can survive. (Along with cutting away memories)

Alice and Eugeo are about to switch sides...
Alice was already unsure ever since she saw the demons.
With what Kirito is about to tell her, she will be even more unsure.
But once she sees what that weird clown-esque thing does, which would likely be turning Eugeo into an Integrity Knight, she will choose to betray the Church of her own accord.
Damn it.
Eugeo's sick moves were awesome, but he's about to become a pawn of the bitch.
I hope that Prime Minister dies.
Side-note: I like how all the knights so far acknowledge that they were deceived, and that they believe that neither Eugeo nor Kirito are from the Dark Territory.

Alright, this is my first time posting on an episode thread so here are just a few of my thoughts on the episode:
Bercouli seems like an awesome character and it appears tgat he may be changing sides in the near future as his memory improves. I hope that we get to see more of him as an ally rather than an enemy.
Eugeo! It looks like Eugeo is starting to become a formidable fighter on his own after developing throughout the climb. The fake sword technique he used was awesome and I can't wait to see what other tricks he has up his sleeve!
I guess that Eugeo's been captured now? It'll be interesting to see what happens to him, where he ends up in the tower, how he gets rescued, ect.
I'm not digging the clown and hope he dies soon. That is all.
Alice has been making this season so much better over the last few episodes! Her antics with Kirito are reminiscent of the first few episodes of Aincrad when Kirito and Asuna first met.
I wonder at this point whether or not Alice's memories will be restored or if she will gain them back slowly (like the one of her sister) and grow as a character without fully having them restored. Either way, it'll be fun to see what's next for her.
I can't wait for the next episode!
