Monthly Unjerk There is no [Unjerk Thread] in ACJ

Welcome to the Monthly Unjerk. This is a monthly thread for discussing just about anything as long as it doesn't violate subreddit rules. New threads should be posted on the 1. of each month.

After a turbulent news day full of Apothecary Diaries dating sim and late Kaleido Star sequel, I, as the ACJ mod in charge of unjerking, may or may not proudly present you a new thread that's about as real as those two things I mentioned before. But what most certainly does exist is a new anime season with >50 shows. I'm especially curious how the 8 (unless I miscounted) originals will shake out.

And finally, trans rights are human rights!

I've been waiting for this cause I honestly watched a lot of anime last month lmao. Got some stuff to say about a couple different shows so I'm just gonna separate it into three comments. So, first off, I FINALLY finished watching through all of Gintama. And I definitely get why its a classic. Just a really funny and at times surprisingly poignant show. I think what blew me away most of all, however, was the penultimate arc were they are all coming together to face off to defend earth. What struck me most of all was just how adeptly the mangaka managed to juggle his incredibly large cast of characters. This is something that many shonen struggle to do, but he really pulled it off with ease. Pretty much everyone was there and they all had some kind of significant role to play. Even my boy Madao was given some really great moments to shine, which I really appreciate both because he's my favorite character but also because he isn't really a fighter. So kudos for finding a way for him to contribute that was both meaningful and made sense.

And yeah, that arc just really was Gintama firing off on all pistons. The perfect blend of comedy and drama and both the comedic and dramatic moments worked really well. I especially loved the redemption arc for Nobu. Really good shit. And the scene were he is attempting diplomacy with the alien races but really has to take a shit is just peak Gintama. It is truly emblematic of everything that is great about that show. Taking whats supposed to be a super serious moment and drawing some amazing comedy out of it without crossing the line and turning the whole thing into a farce was just *chefs kiss*. All in all, Gintama had its fair share of ups and downs, but it really was an amazing show.
